PSA: Imgur to remove old content - save your Sweet F.A images

Sweet Football Association Community,

If you have ever had the pleasure of going through old Sweet F.A threads, you would know that hundreds of now-broken images were hosted on Photobucket. The same is about to happen again, so I have sought permission from KP to post an advisory thread so posters can preserve and save any important images for the league.

Imgur images have a large presence on this board. From media thread graphics, club history threads, and award season threads to match threads. You would be hard-pressed to find a thread that does not have an Imgur image linked.

Starting May 15, 2023, Imgur is implementing a new Terms of Service and will 'be focused on removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from our platform as well as nudity, pornography, & sexually explicit content.'

It would be a great shame if we lose a ton of old images that are the make-up of important threads once again. There are a lot of unrecoverable Photobucket images from times gone past that undoubtedly have some great Sweet F.A images that are now sadly lost to time.

If you have ever made use of Imgur, I would suggest going back and saving any images/graphics from your threads.

This is a very valid psa. These days we tend to keep our created media local and just attach it, but back in the day it was very handy to host them on external services such as imgur. As Hate says, the risk is shown through the broken links where photobucket images used to be, and I lost a shitload that I had stored with imageshack, too. This also could potentially apply across the Bigfooty site as a whole and it be handy to have Chief address it with a heads-up to the wider community.

F**king hell. So if images are hosted on my profile on imgur they're safe? I literally have 50 pages of images on my profile.

EDIT: Geez it's bloody vague. Given I am on my account multiple times a week I think mine are ok, and I have most of them backed up anyway. Fair amount of gifs/memes are about to bite the dust though.

It is very vague, but my understanding is in your case, they should be safe.

Pretty sure images uploaded straight to BF are stored on the BigFooty CDN (content delivery network)/storage.

What we are talking about here is when you upload an image to Imgur and click the insert image option on BigFooty (

) and insert an Imgur link (ie. i.imgur.com -- /4kkIhXU --- .png).
