Re: PSD Pick Poll

Like shaving down prior to a hair test...

Cousins isn't my choice but sitting here calling him 'THE DRUGGY' is a gutless personal attack that doesn't belong on this board.

The notion of taking Skipworth is backward counter productive. He can do exactly what he'd be drafted for - to help develop the young kids, in his current roll at Bendigo.

You quoted me but didn't reply to my quote and mentioned calling him The Druggy, which i didn't do?

Skipworth won't be there next year if we don't draft him as he will be playing in SA.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

This coming from the man who mainly posts about Andrew Welsh? And not in a postive way.

No unfortunately there's alot of precious people in here who only pay attention to my posts against Welsh.

I comment about him as a footballer which is what these boards are for. Having an objective view which may be negative of one of our players is unfortunately too dificult for people like you to understand or cop.

Not withstanding my posts on Houli, Gumbleton, Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher, Myers, Pears, Monfries, Neagle, Ryder, Lonergan, Hille, Davey, Jetta, Reimers, Watson, McVeigh, etc. The vast majority of which are all positive.

If someone is to be objective about Essendon over the past 4 or 5 years their must be a number of negative opinions based on our horrible performances.

Good to see you're perfect and have never committed a crime.

On the money again Merv. A quote from the SANFL website ;

The Woodville West Torrens Football Club is delighted to announce that Hayden Skipworth has committed to the Eagles for the next two seasons.

Subject to not being selected in the AFL draft or pre-season draft, Skipworth will return to the club after two years playing for the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL. He won the Bendigo Bombers best and fairest award in 2008.

Upon committing to the club, Skipworth said, “Obviously I am very keen to continue my time within the AFL system and so am concentrating on the pre-season with Essendon at this stage, however, should I not be drafted I look forward to recommencing my career with the Eagles”.

Re: Essendon Media Watch

All said? I'm not so sure about that. Most, yes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a club pull the pin and take the risk of drafting Ben come PSD selecting. A club that really hasn't said all that much.

Who?

Melbourne- nope, they are not in a window and want youth, Sibiaso seems the man.

Port- Will take Carr, whether they should is another question

Ess- Skipworth

Brisbane- Davis

Richmond- Klemke

Blues- committed to Chris Johnson

Honestly who will come from the blue and sign him, Port a 2% chance I'll grant you that as Carr is ordinary, but apart from that there is nothing for Cuz!

Re: Merged PSD Pick

No window looks open at the moment for Ben, that's quite right.

But the feeling inside me still remains that someone will take the punt.

We're just going to have to wait 'till PSD day to find out if indeed my instincts are on the money.

Big call at this point, but I'm willing to roll with the punches.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

i think the hair test picks up drug use for 3 months, hence why they will be conducting 4 tests per year if he was to return.

It was the worst possible move he could have made and sealed his fate.

Hair tests are not 100% scientifically accurate.

A scalp test can be doubtful if a person has dyed/tipped their hair because of the use of chemicals in this process.

Hair tests would more widely used throughout the sporting world if they were 100% accurate.

Re: Merged PSD Pick

Lets look at the rookie draft.

I am assuming that EFC will select Skipworth in the Pre-season Draft.

IMO EFC should be looking for a mixture of project players and players who are close to AFL ready.

We have 4 spots available ( Magin and Boyle are already rookied.

I would go

Cockie - A ready made player who can play midfield/small defender
Klemke - A running defender who needs to improve his skills.

I would then choose 2 ruckman

One would be a project ruckman and someone like Gaertner who could also pinch hit in defence.

Re: Merged PSD Pick

Robin Nahas!

Definitely Rookie him!

Will help out more with Bendigo... and will do good if a senior player is to be injured for the season.

Would Essendon pick up Chris Johnston

If essendon are looking for a bit of maturity would they pick up Chris Johnston before Carlton grab him....

He is only an okay player but I would love someone to trump Carlton

Re: PSD Pick Poll

Ben cousins... and by looking at the results above, most agree with me.

Hardly, all it means is there are more silly supporters than I thought. Getting a confessed druggo is not what EFC need.

Re: Merged PSD Pick

I may be dreaming, but someone with maturity....

Welcome back Hirdy :D

Re: Bombers set sights on speedy VFL midfielder

But surely nahas was targeted all year not just in the gf but yet you look past that and single the one game out all be it the most important one.. all players strugle to deal with being targeted and scraged why should he be any different even the best strugle at times.

Finals games at VFL level are generally the best games to finalize your judgments on players. They are the games that have the most pressure and different tactics.
A few years ago we had Sam Hunt have a great year in the VFL and look like possibly getting another contract until the finals series where his decision making under pressure fell away and showed a fatal flaw in his game that a few thought could be there.
From what i saw in the GF Nth Ballarat knew how much Port relied on Nahas and they made sure he was always getting pushed of the contest and put under pressure. He will cop the same at AFL level week in and week out so unles he can build up his size/frame he will struggle.

i dont think anyone is doubting the ability of the kid only his size.. i have seen plenty of alwyn at state level and he was doing what nahas has been doing in the vfl.. it took alwyn davey 3 years to break into south adelaides first side so to say your making your judgement on nahas based on his u18 form isnt the best way to judge what the kid is all about..

For a start the judgment was not just based on his under 18 footy. What i said was his body size/shape had not changed much since he was in the under 18's. the point being in the few years he has been out of under he has not got a lot bigger.

spud222 said:
why not give him a spot on the list (rookie or psd) to see what he can do.. surely his worth a shot or would you rather another bean pole who has that special word potential??

He is in the same boat as a bean pole with potential. Unless he can increase his strength and size he wont make it , plus we already have a lightly framed midfielder on the rookie list who has better skills on both sides of the body.
There are a few boys that did not get frafted this year that i would prefer.
Im not sure why a Carlton supporter is so concerned about what we do anyway. If he is as good as you think then the Blues ( or anyone else for that matter )can bloody well pick him.
All i have done is look at things in plain black and white without the emotional attachment that you seem to have.

Seriously, his the best player we can get
and even if we regard his drug addiction and skill his skill supersedes all others enough to risk it

Hayden Skipworth

Should we take Skipworth in the pre season draft or would we be better off taking a chance on a younger player.
would like to hear everybody's thoughts on the issue and who the majority would rather

No he is not, I'd rather take a project kid that may make it rather than a guy (Cousins) that in all likelyhood would destroy EFC. He is not what we need. Even Skipworth would be better.

You think that a player can single handedly destroy us?

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.

Re: PSD Pick Poll

Yes, Cousins has almost singlehandly destroyed the Weagles. Honestly if you don't think his antics played a role in driving Judd out you are kidding. The risk of losing our key young players is too high to be drafting a self confessed drug addict.

Re: Merged PSD Pick

I'll say it again - you genuinely think he could destroy the Essendon football club?

Given the media scrutiny he's (rightly or wrongly) received over the past couple of years, do you think that anyone is going to be stupid enough to follow him even if he does re-offend. There is zero chance of him receiving a contract which doesn't have an escape clause for the club. If he re-offends, his career is over.

The issue is not what damage the club will suffer if he re-offends, it's whether he can offer on-field, and whether that's worth the risk of losing a spot on our list for a year.

Re: Merged PSD Pick

The risk of him desroying the club is too high. I don't want our youngsters to be subjected to drugs and other stupid things that Cousins does. He is not over his addiction, as anyone with some understanding of drug use would tell you it takes more than 12 months to cut a huge drug addiction.
