In his quote he says Aspley 'heading towards re entering the QAFL", and "a ten team competition at QAFL level is preferred".
Sounds to me like he is saying there will only be 10 teams and Aspley are the preferred 10th team.
Not sure how presentation went goalkicker was caught in a storm when on and haven’t spoken to GM yet.But the pitch on paper looked really impressive.And Krueser is moving up to Noosa and has made contact regarding playing.

that would be huge! The big Humphrey Bear would be a good acquisition!
WOW what a kick in the guts for QLD AFL supporters. All the support shown by QLD over the past 5 months and then the AFL pulls the rug out from underneath the feet of young men trying to make a way into the AFL. Understand the financial sides of things, but don't turn your back on what was AFL's life support in 2020.
Surely if Southport cannot get a spot in VFL it sounds like they pushing to make it stand alone AFL Clubs/ Mergers with VFL existing Clubs.
Sound like they trying to get it back to 16 Teams?
Already a few AFL Clubs indicates they not having a VFL side but maybe that may change?
Its a massive financial imposition for AFL clubs the VFL team for in reality not alot of gain. This year probably opened eyes as to how it could be done differently and we might see clubs organising matches between each other for their players 25-35 (if thats the list size). Think the logistics around running 2nd tier sides and the impact on the competitions below that outweigh any real benefits.

Not sure it’s a huge cost apart from travel SMY, which still means QLD and NSW the odd teams out as could easily be just a Victorian based VFL competition again?
Not sure AFL Clubs or Player Association keen on left over list players having another year of Auskick.
I would be staggered if they left Northern Clubs our in cold again. And if a Southport or Aspley missed out would huge slap in face for QLD Footy.
I dont know the exact costs SM but it would be significant I would have thought.
Occasional travel + player wages (esp of the players who "fill in" to make up the shortfall which will be alot bigger in 2021 with reduced list sizes)+ auxillary staff - it starts to add up. There is no marketing attached to the comp so no one is really falling over themselves to sponsor it with big $$.
Eddie is on record stating that the Pies womens team makes them $1 million / year - I wouldnt think a VFL side would do that. I just cant work out how its supposed to work in any case - there is going to be at times somewhere bn 10-20 blokes required from off the lists to make up a team each week. These guys are going to be pulled from various clubs at different times. Im not sure it will engender a hell of alot of goodwill among the clubs tbh.
Whether we like it or not this is different times for the code imo. The slashing of AFLQ staff is an example of this with clubs no doubt being asked to do more with less and appreciate that reportedly 1 person is going to be competition manager for 4-5 comps. The AFL gravy train will be no longer and what creates a $ will become ever more important. Is why I think a twilight GF is nearly a given despite the protests of many. Its just worth too much at this point.

If you talk to those involved from the past...
The model of players being dished out to various VFL clubs worked better or just as well, in some cases AFL clubs in Melbourne had multiple alignments, not just one.
Could also work up here if appropriate respect was shown to the stronger clubs, their facilities and systems. Much like Lions/Bears being farmed out to QAFL clubs in the 90s
Geelong's success in 2007-2009 while having their own VFL team fuelled the view that it was a model for success, never mind the fact they had multiple generational talents who were Father/Son selections, plus a slew of quality players picked up via excellent talent identification and smart drafting/trading.
Meanwhile the Hawks managed to win 4 flags in 7 seasons, and were one of the only clubs not to have a standalone VFL side!

Yep good points. Although not being standalone what happened was clubs at 2nd tier list their identity eg. Box hill were hawthorns reserves team so it may not have had a vfl team but it did have an aligned team not players everywhere

Seen on the fox footy Facebook page that confirms that both Aspley and Southport will be apart of the new VFL. 22 teams in a 16 round season. Stand alone clubs to have $200,000 salary cap.

Aspley confirmed them and Southport are in. Aspley also maintaining a div 1 side.
Pretty exciting news and great there is a vfl pathway on the northern side of Brisbane.Our pitch to aflq was very positive particularly from headquarters who are pretty bullish about Noosa coming in.Have a players meeting tonight including seniors,colts and 16s to gather their thoughts and will know more about whether we will be offered a license in next few days.Aspley accepting (when earlier in week we heard they were u decided)certainly increases our chances.

The VFL is dead as new second-tier comp confirmed
The VFL is officially dead and Carlton will field it’s first stand-alone reserves side for in 19 years in a new-look 22 team second tier competition to launch in 2021.
The VFL is officially dead and Carlton will field it’s first stand-alone reserves side for in 19 years in a new-look 22 team second tier competition to launch in 2021.
The AFL confirmed on Thursday that teams will play in the yet-to-be-named competition for the eastern seaboard, with clubs to be based in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
Of the 14 eastern seaboard AFL clubs, 11 will field standlone reserves teams with all the existing VFL clubs to be integrated in to the new competition.
St Kilda, Melbourne and Hawthorn will maintain their alignment with current VFL clubs.
The salary cap will be set at $200,000 for stand-alone clubs and $100,000 for AFL and aligned clubs and the AFL will subsidise all approved travel for interstate matches.
The Blues will have their own reserves side for the first time since 2002, after spending recent years aligned with the Northern Bullants, who will also be part of the competition.

Why is it a Mickey Mouse comp? They could do conferences potentially. The NFL all don’t play each other once, they seem to be ok

like a North and south comp? So pretty much the NEAFL and the VFL? But for some reason, put into one comp and then split up again 
Interesting that the Carlton CEO spoke effusively about having a stand alone side yet a club like Hawthorn who run a pretty good ship dont see it as a priority?
think its important to note that it is a development league solely and the wins/losses are irrelevant in many respects. 16 games will mean even with a conference system you dont play every team the same number of times. What all these clubs will be happy about is that they feel their next rung of players get a decent hit out every week against AFL listed players. Recruiters will be stoked and you would love to be an Academy player now and/or a player who missed out and wanting to get an opportunity to show your wares vs VFL players. It may encourage a few Victorian blokes to move north to either Aspley/Southport if they feel the opportunities are better. Fantastic for a young coach like Webby too.

why would it be good to be an academy player?
they will be playing acedmy stuff, not this comp. They might be top ups for AFL clubs reserves like always, so thats not different - they will be just further off the pace than they were before.
Apparently the AFL teams reserves up here will be signing mature age players as well -22-26 year olds, so QAFL clubs probably might lost a few players to this and don't even know it yet
