That's a shame they really took steps forward last season. But if what you say is true they are still 25 players short for one team.
Definitely a long way back for the Chooks but hopefully they at least get a Friday night side up and going.

Any word on how Ipswich and Gympie travelling?

Ipswich apparently struggling. the handling of the coach siutation hurt them
With competition starting last Saturday in March doesn’t leave much room for margin for Clubs to get numbers sorted prior to round 1 as we definitely 2-3 weeks earlier than normal season starting.

Puts a lot of clubs under pump straight up in New Year that may be struggling with numbers.

Wonder if league are talking to clubs struggling as no use putting out a fixture only to change again.

At present we already have 5 byes in season.

If the chooks and eagles are both struggling for numbers do you think they might consider a combined side for the year? Maybe chooks are the senior side, eagles the reserves. They can training at their individual grounds during the week and split the home games? Keeps both clubs in Saturday footy.

Ha if Ipswich can’t get their proverbial together with the Cats why would they with the Chooks?

Both clubs were fine for numbers just no quality. What’s their plan? Where they going and what do they stand for? Have to ask those same questions about most in the bottom 8 of Div 2

I think with Colts now being drained out of QFA /Community Clubs I’m not sure how any clubs in Div1, Div 2 South/North can plan for future with Ressies.

Think this is a major problem moving forward trying to get a pathway for your club when most parents don’t want their kids 17 or 18 playing Senior footy and if they not good enough for QAFL Colts they just walk away.

So limits recruitment opportunities for Community Clubs. Really think AFLQ need to show the lead on this and map out sustainability of Saturday Footy otherwise the Friday Night Competitions will continue to grow and more players will walk away if that is only option.

I seriously think this is just the start and will be more clubs next year in similar position to Moorooka this year.

Agree on that Blocker re Colts. It’s a joke and how they failed to see the already evident outcome shows the lack of care factor.

Don’t agree that one team Sat comps are the answer though. Limit the Fri night BS and put some parameters around it.

Sat footy is your premium product and should be kept that way. Regardless there will always be clubs that get it wrong. Have the Chooks ever not been wobbly? It greatly depends on who is there and atm they look cooked.

That’s probably where we differ. I see no problems if a team can’t get a Ressies side together let them stay in competition. A bye in Ressies is better than losing Clubs.

I see Saturday one team competition with Womens Team as well might be answers. Time to think outside the box for sake of keeping Clubs and Teams viable in Competitions.

The format of lower level footy in qld has been falling away for years. I find it hard to accept that Colts is no longer around for clubs lower than qafl. This decision will probably go down as the worse decision this century.
I said years ago that Friday nite teams would be the fastest growing comp in brisbane. I'll make another prediction that one team clubs will play Saturday's with the women's in the ressies spot in the next couple of seasons.
If you just look at the past your can see the future.
Clubs will not be able to get 60 blokes on there list. That's what it takes at a minimum to field two sides. We can all make excuses but I like to deal with reality and that is we have too many clubs compared to players.
When players move to other clubs it helps one club for a year and destroys one club for years. Blocker is right it's time to sit down and find a way to structure Brisbane footy to keep clubs alive not kill them off. Yes it will be different to other comps in Australia but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
That's my two cents.
Merry Christmas posters and all the best to the struggling clubs for next year.

Where does that end? A 12 team comp and ressies for 6 of them? Makes a joke of that comp and the clubs that do have them they ebb away too.

You do raise an interesting one with womens though. First state league reserves had to be separated because 1 team Division One sides were much stronger. Now we have reserves in both State League and Division One. One would argue none are stronger for it at all. Just because they can raise 60 players should not make a Div 1 licence but that seems to be the criteria. You could add Wynnum to that in the men’s space - they were belted by the top two in Div 2 yet went up with the leagues blessing.

Agree to many clubs. The league needs to act strategically and not allow any muppet to start a club.

Rugby leagues local footy setup up is way better. Opens north/south from Div 1 to 4 . You can have 4 teams or 1 depending on how big your club is . And your teams get graded every year.

The one thing I don't think will happen is one team clubs with no ressies in same comp. Have to come up with a better idea than that. You carnt have a bye every second or third week. You are correct by saying that would see blokes drop off that idea very quickly.

Where have 50 odd players from Moorooka gone? Different clubs? Why did they all move? Why did Wynnum lose so many good players to another club and now have to move a Div down? Are these whole league issues or more individual club based problems? If numbers are the issue why are so many Div 2 teams also putting 3rds in next year?

Some teams obviously struggling while others thrive.

I love Gone Akers thinking of a similar set up to League. QAFL and Div 1 seniors and ressies. Below that div 2, 3, 4 on Saturdays, 8 teams each comp. If you can field a ressies they can play div 3 or 4 depending on grading at the start of the year. A team battling can play their seniors in Div 3 if needed. Keeps Saturday footy happening for all. If you can field two teams they play in traditional senior time slots. Div 2 seniors might play a different club to what the div 3 (ressies) do, but keeps all clubs active. If you get back to two teams after a good year, can just slot into the div you get graded into the next year.

Senior grading probably not as bad as juniors. Especially if clubs only have one team. Hard to hide good players in lower Div teams like some junior clubs.

Only an idea Freddy. Clearly the comps are evolving more with Friday teams coming in etc. There is probably an actual need to look at moving comps around, as opposed to the pst where they have changed things for unknown reasons.

Removing colts though has lead to many of the issues and will do for the next year or two. QAFL clubs loving it I’m guessing, how they fix everything and have comps that work for all, well that’s going to be bloody hard

If I’m miserable because I disagree with half the dribblers here then that’s a big plus.

I deal in reality. Most of the great unwashed aren’t actually down in the dirt and are living in the 70s

Hi Guys
bad management all-round the Div 1 and 2 from early 80s to the mid 90s was ORSM and so was pineapple cup maybe someone has to step up and take control....

When was local footy strong when Brisbane comp was alone the sunny coast had its own and so did the Gc it's not that hard....
sides would play with one side Marsden and south Brisbane teamed up in a strong Div 2 and where hard to beat i think both won in 87?
let teams play with one side and they will find a reserves team ....
But all this travel from Balina to Gympie it was a dream from years ago ....
