Meeting a few interstate (and international) friends before Friday's SoO game @ Docklands.

I don't go to that venue very often - can anyone recommend a good pub or whatever to catch up at pre-game?

Anything from the 80s is stack full of adult content. Have you ever watched the Agro out takes? Funny as
Not just the out takes!
Cooking fish with one of the twins. Other walks in and says "Smells like fish in here" Agro says "Well take smaller steps then...."
We were all talking about this at school in the morning!

The Mail Exchange on the corner of Bourke and Spencer is good.

Thanks, 5 stars would read again.
sorry, meant to say The Hof is good for German beers, Tap831 is ok upstairs if the weather is good, The Nixon is ok. Do a pub crawl!

Lol exactly. Not Pre-Season.
Yeah found out. I thought people were talking about he preseason games. Then people started asking about Haw vs Fre.

Just to let you know who the kids are following in Preston area. My kid's grade two class. Only three teams get a look in. If it wasn't for Richmond!

Hawthorn support is even stronger the grades above, as the little ones all were too young to understand the 3-peat.

Really surprised there aren't any Collingwood. Particularly from around the Preston area.

Maybe because it's West Preston... the slightly better end of Preston ;)

I do see the odd Pies fan, but Hawthorn & Richmond have a big kid fan base. I'm surprised there's a Kangas, Saints or Crows fan!!

I have 20 years of loyalty scarves and I keep offering it to kids to come to the Hawks. No takers, as yet. I have to give them credit.

That's really interesting, given that it seems most kids these days have their teams chosen for them by their parents at birth (at least that's the impression I get from family, friends and posters on BF). Would you say this is the case for these kids or are they making the choice themselves?

There is a bit of a herd mentality. Parents pick the teams for the kids, but the parents who aren't die-hard, allow their kids to follow whom they wish.

Mine have no choice in the matter. They have mentioned other teams, because of friends, but I've told them what will happen if they ditch the Hawks!

yep It was ordained at birth and I don’t want to imagine what would of happened if I had indicated an interest in another club

my kids aren’t big fans of the game but will support the hawks when the situation is needed

Single parent families ,with mums not that galvanised to a team probably has an effect

Alan Martello.

Was good to see the former players taking part.
I thought so, but I couldn't be certain. He was a favourite of mine in the 70s.

When I was a kid, my dad would always take us into the rooms after a game (easy to do so back then)

We became well known to the trainers, who happily took us round to high five the players

One day, big Al Martello walked out of the other room stark naked!

He didn’t get a high five from us that day!

Every time I hear his name, this is the first image that pops into my head :drunk:

Judging via the diagonal stripes, there's plenty of waverers in there to work on

Haha reminds me of my first time meeting Ben Dixon after a game. I managed to shake his hand but looked the other way because I was practically at eye level with it...
