Probably hesitant in these times to get rid of such a cash flow. Personally don't see a problem with it. I especially find it hypocritical some journos can criticise it, when all the platforms they work on advertise and are funded by online gambling, which is 10 times worse than pokies. You can't even advertise pokies.
Both are terrible imo- the fact that sport in general is so affiliated with gambling is gross.
I'm hoping in the next couple years we can also distance ourselves from gambling- then we can 100% claim the family club line.

Yeah I disagree they are both as equally bad as each other. You can't advertise pokies, where's you can't go 5 minutes without seeing a Sportsbet, Ladbrokes etc ad, plus also having the ability to just whack on a grand in seconds on your betting app.

But where do you draw the line? Do we stop serving alcohol and junk food at games due to the issues they cause to people? People like Caro who constantly have a go at us for having pokies is just virtue signalling.

Yeah your first bit is understandable- I also agree that with regards to AFL endorsements that punting orgs are significantly more damaging.

Your second one is a false slippery slope, and people like Caro like to make it feel like us taking action against one will be a push down the slope to action against the others.
I think virtue signalling is one of those buzzwords used by people who aren't comfortable in their norms being questioned and someone like Caro who has built a personality in the media about being antagonistic was always going to have a shit take on it.
With regards to this leading to the removal of beverages at games I think you'll find that similar to punting sponsorships, the money they bring in to the AFL in general is too high for them to remove them as a sponsor/not provide their beverages at events. There's also a lot to be said for alcohol/junk food having more obvious signs when they're being abused which can lead to far more pronounced ramifications as opposed to something more discrete like gambling.

This debate could go on for yonks, actually has gone on for yonks. I can't see how it isn't virtue signalling to be honest, especially as mentioned before, journos can be on radio one minute having a go at clubs earning money from pokies, then the next cut to a BET365 ad or quoting the latest odds for tonight's game. Some of their wages are getting paid with betting money.

My norm isn't being questioned at all. Rarely ever put money in a pokies machine and at max throw a $10 bet maybe once a month. I just think it's incredibly hypocritical to target clubs, when the AFL/Seven/Radio broadcasters are getting way more funded from betting agencies and have changed the language of how we talk about the game (e.g. Collingwood talked as favourites against St Kilda on the weekend amongst friends due to having better odds, not on form). Hey if we get rid of pokies, no skin off my back. But it's not bothering me in the scheme of things that we dabble in it.

yeah understandable all in all.
I suppose my question would then be what's wrong with virtue signalling? I've never really understood the issue with it all in all.

I think the way I'd read beyond your second statement isn't that we shouldn't target clubs because the AFL is paid for by gambling, but rather it's a small step towards removing gambling from being a normal part of the sport. I'm not sure it's hypocritical as the people who want clubs to pull out of pokies are often fans of the one club and would rather have the team they support dissociated from gambling (query off of that based on your last post too: are there any clubs sponsored directly by alcohol providers?). If they were to support the gambling sponsors of the AFL, whilst also not be keen on having their club be associated with pokies then they'd be hypocritical imo.

I'm pretty keen for all gambling to be removed from the AFL in any form- at least in an official capacity and I would see it as a step in the right direction, and would add to the pressure on the AFL to remove their formal gambling sponsors if all clubs pulled out of pokies. But this stuff takes time, that's for sure.

Im presuming that’s Victoria because I’ve never seen them here in WA at coles

Are they the same across the states or do they have different covers
depends on the milestones they can vary between states. It looks like this edition is consistent throughout though

odd if they're not at WA coles....

Curious if anyone got a Silk 400 shirt this year - and if so what's the quality of the shirt like? Pretty keen on getting one of the retro HFC Finance t-shirts but have never bought anything made by Playcorp who have made both shirts.

How cool are those shirts?

I've got something from a few years ago, can't even remember what it was like but it was basically what you'd expect. Decent but obviously not an Adidas quality shirt.

I did. And I think it's better quality than the adidas T-shirt I got in 2013 to celebrate that premiership.

I've seen a couple around. Most notably Michael O'Loughlin was wearing one at the U18s SA v WA match at Thebarton oval in October.

Seriously, what's the go with 'Tasmanian' printed on all our uniforms, guernseys and merchandise?

Are we the Tasmanian Hawks now?

It's our sponsor. The naming rights sponsor has always been Tasmanian tourism and they've refreshed the look and it's now 'Tasmanian' instead of just Tasmania.

This isn't a football related question but does anyone know why all I am seeing is ads?
Every second thread has an ad between them, even in the threads there are ads.
Why?
Hope someone has an answer.
BigFooty server costs are expensive. The revenue generated by the ads covers running costs. There are paid memberships that reduce/eliminate ads.

I've lost track of the number of times I've paid for membership only to be inundated with ads again.

I've always had ads but the last 2hrs they've gone crazy making the experience crap & very hard to use
