If you were introducing people to AFL, which Hawthorn game(s) would you show them?

I'm leaning towards something from the threepeat era, but I think some of the matches I enjoy the most (Geelong PF 13, Sydney GF 14) are on the back of a lot of history, which might be clouding my judgement.

14 GF.

Can't think anyone wouldn't have the 2013 prelim on their short-list ✅

I know it isn't our game but I just introduced two Europeans to AFL on GF day.
Easy for them to understand a goal is 6 points and how the score can easily be pagged back with a quick goal or two, there were multiple goal changes, contested marks, good skillful goals etc.
For Hawks games, 14&15 GF, absolutely brilliant from start to finish

I see people react to posts with a thumbs down, angry or love emoji, but I only have the option to “like” with a thumbs up. Are these other reactions limited to certain forum membership tiers?

Try hovering over the 'like' button for a second. All the other options should pop up.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - the 23 GF would be easy as an introduction because it was fairly goal for goal.

But I don't want them getting any ideas about not supporting Hawthorn! And being biased, I think Hawthorn's chains of play during that threepeat era were incredible to watch.

I probably have the tv intros somewhere to both the PF and GF which would recap why the games were so massive, so I probably can set the tone going into the games.

(Although I will be forever amused at how the media were talking up Sydney and deriding us in 14. I never gamble but when I saw the odds going out, I opened an account, put money on the outcome/normie, won both, withdrew my funds and closed the account. Insane stuff from the media.)

Appreciate the responses, all.

As an international viewer myself I would highly recommend the 89 GF. I barely knew the game existed let alone seeing it live, but I still pull it up on YouTube every so often. Refreshes my love for the game (and Hawthorn) every time. I know the game has changed, but for sheer action, excitement, skill and toughness I haven't seen anything more intriguing.

Interested to get thoughts on who breaks out in our next wave. Similar to Newk, Day & Lewis.

Ward
Mckenzie
Weddle
Mcdonald
Mitchell
Butler
Grainger Barrass
Blanck
B Macdonald
Ryan
Bennetts
Hustwaite
Ramsden

hopefully half
Ward for me should be the break out player next year, 3rd year in the system

I’m sure there’s a logical answer but how does Rat walking through to the draft help port when they finished higher than cats
My guess is if it’s a bad look to unnecessarily walk players to the PSD then it’s a worse look for the original club to re-select the player trying to leave.

Arguably they might be justified to do whatever they like within the rules, but Cats are going to look like the bad guys asking so much for Esava and then forcing him to stay after he tries to walk out completely.

I for one would be glad to see it happen. The Cats eroding their own reputation.

If Ratugolea goes to PSD he ends up at Hawthorn or North, if it's the ND I don't see any team taking him before Ports first selection. Geelong hold no power.

This one. considered by most to be the greatest game ever played:

Other than Gunston... Has a player moved to a different club for a single year, and then returned to their original club the year after?
I did a quick search and couldn't find any. Prior to Gunners the quickest turnaround was 2 seasons.

So Justin Murphy is the only one who returned to a team after a year away, but it wasn't his original team. Nathan Krakouer returned after playing a year at another club but he took longer than a year to return.

All of these players returned to their original club since the turn of the century.

Historically some other players to have returned to their original club after a stint away:

David Cloke (Richmond, Collingwood, Richmond), Carl Ditterich (St Kilda, Melbourne, St Kilda, Melbourne) and high-flying Warwick Capper (Sydney, Brisbane, Sydney) all returned to their original clubs.

Thanks, who was that?
A few people - Daniel Pratt at North, Croad for us, Corey McKernan also at North.

Nathan Krakeour from Port returned after 1 year at a different club, but he was let go by Gold Coast and returned to Port 5 years later and not the next year.
