Great stuff Quigley. I don't even want to think about the amount of work involved. Good to see the inclusion of the QLDers! Will be interesting to see if they go

Great stuff Quigley.

Wouldn't be unhappy with Carlisle and Sewell as our 1st two picks. Addresses a couple of weaknesses for us in tall KPD and in and under clearance type.

Did you have any thoughts about Claye Beams to the Pies with one of our late picks? Think he could be a chance.
I think Beams Jnr is a big chance to go to you guys in the rookie draft. He really only focused on AFL this year and has shown a lot of improvement. I think he is a bit behind other guys looking to get drafted but has some real potential and sticking him on a rookie list for a year to develop would seem to be the way to go.

I could be wrong Quigley but I was under the impression that the GC has first dibs on local kids in this years rookie draft before the others get a look in. If this is the case I would doubt that they would pass up Beams Jnr there. That's the only reason I think we may take him late ND as we probably wont have access to him after that.

IIRC it goes 1. GC, 2. BL, 3. GC, 4. BL, 5. GC, 6. BL for local picks in the rookie draft, assuming both teams take all three local rookies.

dlanod is right on the rookie draft.

I do not think Beams is enough of a prize that teams are going to be fighting over him if he says he wants to go to Collingwood. It is a risk though.

BTW I gave you Collingwood O'Brien because I had heard that he was a big chance to be taken with their last pick. He was not otherwise on my radar.

Brilliant read Quigley, definately top 3 if not the best this year. Not sure the Bulldogs would pass on Jasper two-dads at pick 31 but all selections were fairly justified.

Would hope that Richmond actually does take at least 2 more KPPs than what you gave us. Considering we have lost 5 since the end of this season it would be a real shock to see us only take 1 in the draft. Understand why you may have overlooked them in this write up though as it is one of the most detailed efforts I've seen.

Why don't you name some players to select instead?

This year does not have depth in talls when compared to last year. Last year with your first two selections you went tall, so maybe all is not lost in that department.

I think Gary Rohan and JMP will both go much earlier and Griffiths much later. Other than that seems pretty good. Mike Florio is an interesting choice but we don't have that pick.

Why? Reasons other than height, please.

Size is a massive issue. I am not sure he is best available at 24 either. I am someone who likes to go best available at each pick. If that happens to be a KPP then so be it, if not we take the smalls. Honestly, I'd target Christensen or Josh Thomas at 24, we will get a proven player in Ball at 26. Size for ruckmen is important, undersized ones are rarely 1st choice ruckmen, and you are paying a big price for a 2nd string ruckman.

Why isn't he best available? And once again don't mention size.

Just does not do enough with the ball. I would rather take Gawn who has a bit more potential to work with at 206cm. I just have my doubts. How many 195cm rucks are there running around as the no1 ruckman? Hardly any. My main issue is at his height it is hard to see his position long term. Will he be a ruckman, will he be a CHF/CHB? I liken him to Trengove last year who slid and even Trengove was a fraction taller. Would much rather target Gawn at one of our picks, however I like this phantom as it is the way I'd be going. One ruck, 3 midfielders. However with a PSD pick we could go after a mature ruck and take 4 midfielders.

Great work Quigley, like your reasoning, even if I do disagree with some of your positions. As always Brisbane have some very nice picks, and it is good to get some QLD names out, even if the cream has been taken by GC.

You're worried about Vardy's height, yet you would love to recruit a short player with high skin folds?

Something is missing from your logic.

The piece of his logic that you're missing is that I'm assuming he's not drafting Christensen to ruck.

Vardy's official height is 198.1. Given he is around the same height as Mitch Clark who was close to the best ruck in the competition at the season's end I did not think it was too much of a stretch.

He is a little undersized and I admit he is not one of my favourites but he is highly rated and if Essendon were picking on best available he would have to be close at that stage. I accept though that ruck is not an immediate need although you guys could have used someone this year when Hille went down. Ryder did well but wore down and Bellchambers was inconsistent at best. Hooker covered but is not a ruck.

He has good mobility and its possible he could spend a bit of time up forward. It is possible that Ryder, Hille and Vardy could all play in the same team.
