Quigley's 2010 Mock (Not for the hard of reading)

You are right in that I did tend to focus on the negatives. This was largely to justify my dropping him down the order. I see him as middle of the pack on a lot of things but not really exceptional at many. The main positives for him I see as:

- His attitude. This kid is held on very high regard and the work he has put in to improving himself is a credit too him. He has outstanding professionalism for a young guy and has a willingness to work hard and learn. Very coachable.

- His ability to get to good positions. As he showed toward the end of the year in particular the kid can rack them up. He works to excellent places to receive and can get himself open.

- His hands both overhead and below the knees are good. He needs to work on his hands in the ruck contest in particular but in most other aspects of the game he shows nice clean hands. As I mentioned I have some concerns about his current core strength but if he can improve this he would have better balance over the ball and in the aird and his hands could become exceptional.

- He has good height and a very nice leap and again if he could improve his core strength he could be a difficult prospect to mark over top of.

- His kicking style is very nice although I noted he tends to kick to a contest too much at the moment. This might be something which could be coached out of him and perhaps playing with AFL players who run harder to get open further down the ground he could be the weapon that many see him as.
Thanks for that:)
It will be interesting how it all turns out.

Damn I was so close to getting it right ;)

As say every year no-one it is never going to be close. Even amongst the professionals they rate them a LOT differently from each other. I have seen one ranking this year and it was massively different to the way things went on the day (although he did peg a couple of the fallers that I missed).

Always interesting to look back in a couple of years and see how they compare. FWIW I am stoked that the Lions picked up my favourite for the year in Green. Hopefully he can justify my confidence in him and do it for the team I support :)

I did and to think the Lions could have taken those two and snared 4 of my top 12. Needless to say I would have been pretty happy with that result. Hadley though usually departs from my script and its getting hard to argue with his results.

considering where your list is at, i thought that it'd be pretty easy to argue with his results.

A couple of years ago I loved Robinson and Walters and was very upset when the Lions took Redden and Banfield. Walters looked good at the end of the year but the slightly left field selections of Redden and Banfield have taught me to trust Hadley (along with the picks of Rich, Rockliff, Cornelius, Harwood and Beams).

I retain a little scepticism perhaps as its hard to let go of favourites you have hoped your team would pick for several months but at the end of the day Hadley has done a lot right and not much wrong.

On my mock I put kids in who I like and who look good from what I have seen of them. I see nowhere near as much of these kids as the professionals do and I do miss things. I admit in the long run I get quite a few wrong but have a look - I do get a few right as well.

For sr36 - Hadley became the recruitment manager in 2008. So far he has selected:

08

Rich
Redden
Banfield
Cornelius
McCulloch
Rockliff

09
Bartlett (injured after being an emerg twice from memory)
Harwood
O'Brien
Retzlaff
Maguire

Beams R
McCauley R
Golby R
Dyson R
Yoshiura R
McKeever IR

Before that time you can blame Gubby Allen for our list and yes he did a crap job. Beware GWS.

Agree Tarqs. Just quietly I like the look of Golby as well who has also had knee issues. Hopefully we can see both of them at their best next year although Bartlett probably won't be back until midseason.

You're right he's only been in the job for a while so I shouldn't really blame the state of your list on him; however, I think it is a bit too early to be annointing him also. Rich, Redden and Rockliff look the goods, but it was a very strong draft.

that is the worst phantom ive ever seen .. all that effort when u would have done a better phantom picking names from a hat

Which is obviously how Richmond does it considering there great success since the draft started.

Don't knock people who do all the work for you to just read. If you don't like it, piss off and read another thread!

Nice work ****-knuckle.

Reading is obviously a bit hard for you. Concentrate real hard and read this bit (especially the bit I've bolded) which was in the first post:
A few key things about my draft:

  • My aim is not to pick players where they are likely to go in the real thing.
  • My aim is to pick players based on how good they will be in 3 years for mids and 5 years for talls.
  • I do try to give teams players who will suit them and so I may move some guys up or down in my ratings if they suit a particular team eg see Bennell.
  • I will be wrong on how high I rate a player and it doesn’t worry me. I apologise to anyone I have been overly harsh on.
  • When in doubt I will side against the Victorians. I think there is a lot of pro-Victorian bias on BF, in the media and even with club recruiters. I am doing my own little bit to redress the balance.
  • I aim to make people think and deliberately throw some smokies in there and drop others. Despite some of you thinking I am being ridiculous I do rate the people where I have them.
  • I have not forgotten anyone. Its simply that I do rate the likes of Barden, Michie etc as high as you. Get over it.
  • You might notice this year I have put in returns in my reviews. The whinging of some of the EDT guys finally made an impression – and I also finished a little ahead of usual and have a bit of time to edit.

********.

Wow... I hope your right Quigley....

Carlton:
Pick 9 - McCarthy (actual pick 34)
Pick 13 - Watson (actual pick 18)
Pick 27 - Mitchell (actual pick 41)
Pick 28 - Curnow (actual pick Rookie pick 18)

Carlton certainly picked up a lot of guys I liked. Perhaps overloaded a bit on height seemingly taking a shotgun approach.

Curnow I cannot believe lasted as long as he did. He could be a massive win for Carlton when you lose Murphy ;)

Sensational read and a wealth of information on this year's crop of draftees.

Since you know them all so well, can you peer into your crystal ball and tell us which players you think will get a few AFL games this year? :D
