Hinge to McCreery, Laird to Elliott. Think the player profiles match up better
No way!

Elliott is their biggest danger & way too good overhead for Laird.

Would be a mauling!

Disagree completely, Laird will be better suited to Elliott’s level of athleticism than McCreery, Pies will be locking the ball inside 50 with ease otherwise
You want Laird playing full back one on one on Elliott.

Please no!

Laird more suited further up the ground.

Nicks could well continue to stand in the way, though, but there’s stuff to be excited about
I think even the negs here are excited at the possibilities for the rest of the year

But the problem I have is I cant trust Nicks at a crucial point and that informs my mood

If either of Dawson or Rankine play well during those first 3 quarters the game was over anyway, that’s what kept Port in the game.
Thilthorpe kicks goals instead of points its over at 1/4 time

Ultimately I don’t think Laird or Hinge will make much of a difference to Elliott aerially

When the ball hits the deck, which it will a lot if it’s been wet, I want our more athletic players on their more athletic players

We've certainly been able to beat the beatable sides by more this year, hence the excitement early.

Similarly we've lost to teams like Geelong and Fremantle in near identical fashion to last year.

What matters is whether we can translate improvement to winning where we couldn't previously. If we only improve against weaker sides we are merely flat track bullies which I guess is an improvement, but not a meaningful one
I feel like it's easy to make too much of those similarities, but I agree it's pretty notable how closely we have tracked last year's results to date. We've banked one extra win in the away showdown and the rest of the differences are margins and fixture.

For what it's worth if we continue to follow the most recent results in corresponding fixtures we'd slip from 6-3 to 8-1-8 from here, assuming we beat Richmond away who we haven't played in forever, so we will see soon enough. We'd then finish 12-1-10, probably something around 9th or 10th. This is including us losing at home to Melbourne.

It’s a fair concern

It’s really a matter of to what extent talent can overcome coaching, which IMO it did last Saturday. Also whether Nicks can learn a few more things - odds not in our favour there, but possible

I also don’t think our midfield will again be overall that shit many times this year

Hinge is decent in the air & on the ground.

Needs to be one of Max, Wozz or Hinge.

Max needed for Hill as Nick is an idiot for not using Bond.

Wozz needed for Membrey.
