I know they're unpopular things to say - but Crouch lowered his eyes today and tried to do a lot of what he was asked to improve on.

I wouldn't have brought him in, but I think he was far from our worst today.

No point bringing Milera in if we're just going to drop him.

For me, it's probably Murphy, Butts and McHenry out.

I wouldn't have dropped Jones, but they either need to rest him or let him improve things in the reserves.

Tex comes back. Maybe Sholl or Cook. Maybe Worrell or Frampton.

It's tough. We've got a lot of effort players who aren't locking in their position.

Pretty good sign you didn't watch Newchurch play.

Anyone on our list who hasn’t played at AFL level should be given a game in the next 10 weeks. We need to find out what they have under the bright lights, and whether they deserve to be re-signed.

Maybe it will be obvious after 1-2 games that Newchurch will never make the grade? I can guarantee you he wouldn’t be any worse than Wayne ****ing Milera was today though lol.

Milera didn’t have much of it today, but when he did you could see he was attempting to take the game on and move the ball with some speed and flair. This is something we’ve been lacking. I’d leave him in for a couple more weeks at least and play him off half back rather than up forward. Again we’re playing another player out of position.

Surely we’re done with the Laird, Keays and Crouch midfield combination? It is one dimensional and needs to change. Need to bring in someone with leg speed and can actually impact with disposal. I’d throw Jones in the mix. It’s why we’ve drafted him and it’s time to see if he’s actually going to make it.

In: Worrell, Rachele, Jones, Cook (med sub)
Out: Butts, Murphy, Crouch

what game did you watch?..
jones was bloody good in that last quarter when he was subbed in.

the selection of Milera over Jones was a monumental FU from the beginning.. Jones did more in that last quarter than Milera did all game. and whilst he had a bit of an off game last week, jones’s last month has been pretty bloody good.. among our best.

and you have him in the outs?

still.. at least you have crouch and milera as outs. at this point both should never play at AFL level for the club again.

EDIT: oh.. and Shoenburg is hot garbage at the moment.. had a couple of alright moments but was doing a very good impression of matt crouch for most of last nights SAnFL match against Norwood… slow decisions, poor awareness, poor kicking, stupid handballs. he’s still miles off it.

Newchurch should be bought in next week based on what he’s shown all season in the SANFL.. not based on a couple of moments here and there.

and at least the lad can find the goals.. unlike Mchenry and Rowe.

perfect game to bring him in next week against WC at home.

He scored 3 joe the goose goals last night but apart from this very ineffective. 6 disposals total. I don't believe he has score many goals in total this season. He is not among the lower reaches of the top goal kickers group. I try to watch most games on he app but I have not seen anything that makes him more than an very average SANFL player.

Just a quick note for those listing Walker and Rachele as ins - seems extremely unlikely to me that either would come back in the week before the bye. Rachele will either rest his corky for another week or have a run around in the twos to regain confidence (his last 4 AFL games have been atrocious), and Walker will only be approx 2 days out of protocols, meaning he’s missed a fair bit of training and surely you’d rest the old fella before the bye.

Both certain ins for Round 14 though.
Nicks can small a win.

He already sounds better than Rowe, Mchenry and Murphy with that description.

exactly what I was about to say..

and I’m not sure where the 3 “joe the goose” goals claim came from anyway.. I clearly remember one of them being from a mark he took about 20m out.. which he then walked back from, played on and snapped a goal.

the other thing I find hilarious is how people use “joe the goose” goals as some sort of insult against a player..

players that get goals via “joe the goose” plays generally do so because they are quicker and run harder than anyone else, including their direct opponent, to get themselves into a position to take advantage of the play..

it was one of the only redeeming qualities of Josh Jenkins. he had a massive tank and he worked his opponents into the ground running them up and down the ground till they were stuffed and often found himself in the position to get free for the over the back “joe the goose” because of it.

not exactly sure why this deserves derision.. its a pathetic insult really…Its pretty much like saying “oh you useless bastard, how dare you run back harder than anyone else, thus getting space on your opponent, then grab the ball and kick easy goals for us… you idiot!”..

Newchurch has oodles of speed, shitloads of talent, good skills, finds the goals and has decent x-factor.… not sure if many around here have noticed.. but these are player traits we have Faaaark all of at our club!.. His one knock from last year was his defensive game, tackling and failure to apply pressure to opponents.. plus his lack of involvement (although I think this may have been a coaching directive where he was told to sit just off the contest and be a receiver type where he could then use his blistering pace)..

he has improved that 10 fold this year if we are being honest. he still misses a tackle here and there but so do most players..

get the lad in and lets see what he can bring.

Ineffective but scoring goals is better than ineffective but not scoring goals
Agreed. Though McHenry and Murphy have been quite good up the ground. I thought Ned’s last quarter was pretty good when he seemed to be playing on/behind the ball. Today was a struggle. There were signs of progress combined with some horrible, horrible football. It’s just hard to know whether this is due to inexperience or our players simply not being good enough… am hoping it’s the former but it’s hard not to think it’s the latter. Bah! I don’t know. Stupid football.

If it was up to me, I’d do something like the following…

B: Hamill Murray Doedee
HB: Laird McAsey Jones
C: Dawson Hately McHenry
HF: Soligo Walker Rowe
FF: McAdam Fogarty Thilthorpe
Ruck: O’Brien Keays Berry
IC: Murphy Hinge Cook Schoenberg/Any other young midfielder

Murphy/McHenry/Hamill rotating through the backline/wing… going nowhere near the forward line. Cook/Soligo rotating through half forward and occasionally on the ball. TT rucking a decent chunk of the game.

Smith, Brown and Crouch all out. Experience be damned. They’ve all been ordinary and I’d prefer to watch some young guys have a crack. Perfectly happy to give this line up 2-3 games before rotating through a few new guys. Have a look at near everyone in the list, barring the guys we just know will be gone come seasons end. Meh. Can’t do any worse than we’ve been doing.

I couldn’t have said that clearer

My attempt at changes. Haven't watched either game this weekend but that's probably an advantage.

In:
Walker Newchurch/Rachele? Frampton Cook Jones

Out:
Crouch Milera Butts Murphy Brown

I'm not a fan of Frampton but who else do we bring in? Maybe Borlase but his lack of pace is a worry at AFL level.

McAsey is playing as a forward at SANFL level. There is literally a 0% chance he gets selected at AFL level as a defender. Not 1%. 0.

Crouch is a net negative

Trying at this point or his career isn’t a positive

Also makes it harder for others in development phase to play well
