As Lyon has said of Cerra's situation 'if you miss 3 months of running as a midfielder, that's a lifetime.'

Stats are stats, but on the day, Ballas was poop, B. Hill was running poop.

I'm not going to drop B. Hill, but Ballas was head of D Pearce & Hill.

In.

Hamling, S. Hill.

Out.

S & P

Brad Hill was poop, but unlike Ballantyne he's played a good game in recent memory.

Ballantyne's last good game for us was July 2016. How many more chances does he get?

Ah yes. From Twelfth Melt isn't it?

Nope - it's from Much Ado About Nothing - a timeless comedy of errors and manners (...much like our selection policy, according to some)

Personally speaking, some of these melts calling to mind Macbeth more than anything: tales told by an idiot, full of sound and fury - signifying nothing.

Whether you see our selections as a comedy or tragedy, to thine own self be true... but for me, its far too soon to make these kind of calls folks.

This early in the season, we know only what we are - but not what we may be.

As Lyon said in his preseason address to the media 'Love me or hate me, both are in my favor, if you love me, I’ll always be in your heart, if you hate me, I’ll always be in your mind, but expectation is the root of all heartache.'

I think we need some individuals who have a hard edge about them. Brady Grey comes to mind, plays with pure heart and love for the club and ran top 5 time trial this pre season showing he can run games out now. We are missing those hard role players like suban deboer and mzungu that do the hard work to let fyfe mundy and hill off the hook.

Crowden is another one who could offer that but is only a first year player and im not sure could run the game out, however i wouldnt mind seeing him and all the other youngsters at some stage this year.

The team id love to see sooner rather than later:

Logue Hamling Hughes
Ryan Pearce Wilson
S.Hill Blakely B.Hill
Walters Cox McCarthy
Matera Taberner Grey

Foll: Darcy Fyfe Neale

Int: Tucker Brayshaw Cerra Banfield/Langdon

I really think that we have lost integrity of selection despite talking about it constantly.

I was extremely worried picking only A.Pearce, Johnson and Ryan as the only guys I had any confidence marking above their heads in the back six. I think we all how where I’m going. Joel Hamling. There was plenty of guys around the league playing off less preparation. He could’ve played WAFL before round one but didn’t. Wouldn’t meant he’d played the same amount of pre season games as Kersten and B.Hill. The choice of Hughes as emergency is equally as baffling. He played 18 games last year and looked to solidify his spot. His injury was a wrist so fitness is less of an excuse but match practice may ave been. If match practice was the concern why fly him across the Nullarbor and have him sitting there when he could be getting ready for round two. The replacement for Spurr also was non-existent - he marks it better and has more of defender’s football brain than any of the midfielders we tried to turn into defenders by playing them there.

On top of that we keep going on about improving skills and defending better etc and I don’t see how D.Pearce or Sutcliffe fit into this plan. They are both average kicks and decision makers, not exactly great tacklers and are often pushed off the ball easily.

Also Ballantyne is cooked. Johnson also but Logue can’t play this week. Kersten offers nothing and Mundy and Fyfe can play minutes in his spot allowing for us to pick another talented mid or maybe Darcy.

For me:

Ryan Hamling Johnson
Wilson A.Pearce Hughes
B.Hill Blakely S.Hill
Mundy Taberner Walters
Banfield McCarthy Matera
Sandilands Fyfe Neale
Langdon Tucker Cerra Brayshaw

IN: Hamling S.Hill Hughes Cerra
OUT: D.Pearce Sutcliffe Kersten Ballantyne

I fully expect only Hamling and Hill to come in though. I’m not sure Lyon’s comments in the presser mean much. I doubt the match committee discuss changes straight after the game and honestly think that’s all he was saying in that comment so I’m holding a touch of hope there.

I wanna see Kersten in the backline.

Kersten Hamling Wilson
Ryan A.Pearce Hughes
B.Hill Mundy S.Hill
Walters Fyfe McCarthy
Matera Taberner Langdon
Sandilands Blakeley Neale
Int: Darcy Banfield Brayshaw Sutcliffe

Cerra, Crowden need a few more weeks. Dixon, Meeks, Jones need a season.

If We re in for a long season, I hope Dixon, Meek and Jones get a debut game late in the season

I wanna see Kersten in the backline.

Look I want Lukosius too but it might just be better to drop Kersten and settle for the 3rd Hill.

In reality, you can only make so many changes to a team each week. At present, Sutty & Danyle are the first 2 names on the chopping board, and they should be replaced by better players eg. Hamling & S. Hill.

Ballas place is precarious, but he deserves another week. If he doesn't go well this week, yep he will be on the edge of the chopping board.

I assume you mean the fans chopping block? I'll bet good money Ballas has way more rope than that with Ross.

Also as fun as most here find it to bash Sutty, he wasn't close to worst on ground on Saturday.

I do remember Back in 2016 when everything turn to crap in the 1st 10 rounds, Guys like Weller and Langdon were rotated from the bench to the forward flank to the wing
Hamming will be in if he ticks off criteria at training. Has missed a lot of sessions but should be thereabouts

Hi All, Would like to see this team this week (which wont happen)

Ryan Hammling Nyhuis
Wilson A.Pearce Hughes
Tucker Fyfe B.Hill
Matera Tabenerner Grey
Walters Darcy Langdon

Sandilands, Blakely, Neale

Inter :- S.Hill, Mundy, Brayshaw, Banfield

Bring in Darcy to ruck with Sandilands, seems we go long with out looking into our forward line when under pressure so might as well kick to someone who can make a contest. Plus Darcy and Grey in gives us some aggression which we don't have. Sandilands can also spend time up forward.
Tab's is a hit up Centre half Forward, let the man run both ways. McCarthy wasn't the worse on the weekend, but if he cant take a one on one mark, why play him at FF and he doesn't seem to have the tank to play CHF? I want to see the HFF and FP have speed, which he doesn't. McCarthy needs to work on a few technical flaws before given another chance. He was given a spot and now let him earn his spot.

Give Nyhuis a go, better than having Sutcliffe, D.Pearce or Johnson down back which offer us currently nothing. Johnson is unfortunately cooked and seems the game has passed him. Hard to be leader on the ground when you cant breathe and he doesn't appear to be 100%!!! He is a Docker legend!!

My outs are :- Johnson, D.Pearce, Sutcliffe, Ballantyne, Kersten and McCarthy

Ins :- Nyhuis, Hughes, Grey, Darcy, S.Hill, Hammling

He wasn't great though either. He had 5 clangers including 3 free kicks against. And his direct opponent kicked 2 goals, created 2 others, had a massive 15 score involvements (most on the ground by 5) and the 4th highest metres gained.

I hate bashing our players but if the MC look at his numbers and he isn't dropped for this week then something is seriously wrong.

On AFL Access all areas Matthew Lloyd says "they look like a bottom 4 side" he then continues on "I wouldn't be playing Danyle Pearce anymore, I think he's a bit to slow, games gone past him. I think Michael Johnston (shouldnt be playing) and you ask who, Adam Cerra pick 5 in the draft , once his ready he comes straight in for Danyle Pearce and Griffon Logue, pick 7 or 8 play him in front of Michael Johnston. Have a go at it but Ross seems to have to wait till all Is lost before he makes those types of moves, Nows the time damo, they aren't going to play finals so throw the kids in."

Did some people not like McCarthy's game? I thought he was really good. Brought a heap of pressure and was along with Matera one of our most creative in f50. He had equal highest score involvements with Neale and was 6th for metres gained. He kicked 1.3 so obviously you'd want that to be better but apart from that I can't think of anything else to criticise him for. Based on what I saw I'm excited about him again.

I agree with you one bringing darcy in, our rucks will rest forward when they need a spell which will help our small forwards because it will bring the ball to the ground more for our small forwards which is where they start to shine.

Agree with this, he hit the post so it could have been 2 goals. On that type of out put a 50 to 60 goal season should be on the cards.

I thought he was decent considering our disposal inside 50 but just people's opinion I guess

He did a few good things, but it isn't working with him in the team at the moment. We need leg speed and the ability to play more than one spot. He only works when he wants too. He has great potential but needs to work on a few areas to be a consistent AFL player in my opinion
