Picking your 'best team' every week without an eye to potential costs clubs premierships, it doesn't help them win one.

Imagine having Dan Curtin in your team in his current form, and not being able to imagine how premiership chances are enhanced by investing in elite talents even while contending. Drop him earlier in the year to play the 'best team' and we're significantly worse.
💯 same goes with Draper IMO.

As much as I want players like Taylor/Cook etc to succeed given what they are offering at the moment we should be prioritising Draper.

That Rankine 50nin the 4th was rubbish.
Rankine played on, twice.

Fully understand Scicilys reaction there.

One of the 4 umpires should have seen the touch as well. All.the players did.
I saw the touch from the opposite end of the ground but lots of marks are paid that were touched, nothing new there. The non-play on call however was terrible, I don't blame Sicily at all. Wasn't much more than a 25m penalty however given how close Rankine was to goal.

Players have an off night you know.
Yes, I know.
I didn't call for him to be dropped or delisted.
Silly questioning his courage too!
I don't recall "questioning his courage". If anything, the fumbles were out of character.
What I said was: "His fumble early in the first really worried me; it smacked of hearing footsteps as 2 Hawks pounced, poached the ball and goaled from it." but I probably could have phrased it less harshly.

I questioned his reaction in that moment, only. He fumbled, looked up, saw 2 Hawks bearing down on him and fumbled again, then lost possession and they got their first goal from it.
Previously, my praise of Peatling has been high and consistent all year. He's been a great acquisition.

Smacked of hearing footsteps is questioning courage.

He's not that player & just had and off night.

The same Newcombe who waltzed away with 9 clearances to Berry’s 2, yes.

Big fan of Berry’s resurgence this year. He used to be my avatar. He was poor tonight in my opinion. No big deal. Huge win. All that.
I am not a big Berry fan but I thought he was pretty good last night and enjoyed his burst from the contest.

His stats look a little low but our prime midfielders get low 20 disposals most weeks.

Worrell has been huge all season and there is zero statistical reasons for him to be left out of the AA side.

However, never a bad thing to play that well in front of one of the selectors (Kane Cornes) just before the committee meet again on Monday…
Worrell was immense yet again... just watching the 4th quarters & his chase down that led to the Soligo goal that put us in the lead

All of Worrell, Dawson & Thilthorpe deserve to be All Australian.

Add Rankine & Curtin to have arguably our 5 most important players.

I am still amazed at how much holding was going on. The held Thilthorpe and Tex in particular and impeded them on marking contests. Sometimes it looked like grabbing Thilly's wrists and forearmes/wrists. I saw them do it to another player too on the eastern wing.

Sometimes the 3rd man up came across for an easy mark.

Ok. Sometimes the players were wrestling and the 3rd man came across. But there were more than 5 times our momentum was arrested by a non-call. In the 2nd we started playing infront and consequently started winning some frees. I guess they saw that at half time and couldn't have a free kick count blow out even when we got the front position.

The other think I noticed was, when tackled, the Hawks players just stopped running and allowed the tackle. Ball up.
There were a couple where our player kept trying to move and it looked like he was trying to break the tackle. If he/they stoped, there would have been no prior.

I just rewatched the Gary Lyon Bucks and Roo interview with Tex again and love it more this time then last night.

Buckley's final quotes were really season encapsulating for me.

"That gratitude and appreciation is hard earned, you dont have it at the start of your career, you have it at the end when you know the opportunities are hard to find"

And

"The space where hes in, the space where the teams in, the space where the clubs in, there's no guarantees so you may as well make it happen"

In response and to quote pretty much every character in Deadpool and Wolverine....

LETS F**KEN GO!!!!

The club did their best to try and get him. Simply had to take Reid as the number one priority.

If he’s not at West Coast then there’s no other club rather him be at then where he is now. Hopefully he can win a flag and come home :p (later that is, not right now haha).
Yeah not sure why but Adelaide and West Coast fans like each other generally and support each other before other teama

I wish the AFC would put a media piece about Josh Worrell where they interview his 21 main opponents in 2025. And just ask them 1 question.

How was the day Josh Worrell stood you?

I suspect that would be enough to claim an AA jacket alone

I get the feeling that a lot of SA footy fans that didn't bandwagon a VFL team at somepoint in their family tree may have picked up WC as a preferred team to any Vic team pre-Crows.

I think there is a shared understanding about the A/VFL's MO.

Port is going to get massacred. The only way Port "wins' is if Kenny to remains in Geelong and does not return to Adelaide.

This doesn't help us, though. Except maybe for the LOL's. shrugs 🤷‍♀️

If you look at Geelong's run home, it's hard to see them losing a game. However, it really doesn't impact us. We should still finish top two.
I'd be happy enough with lols

Shuey + McGovern moments

We are forever in their debt

Both the Crows and Eagles were the first AFL clubs in non-VIC traditional football states with annoying little brother clubs, so we have a bit in common.

If the umpire had a brain he'd have realised that it was a contentious mark and blown the whistle several times - clarified to all players (including Rankine) that I've paid a mark, (to Sicily) here is the mark - and let him take his shot. A reset.

As an umpire you call it as you see it - fine, pay the mark. But you get a feel instantly when you've stuffed up from the actions and body language of the player(s). Eg the batsman starts walking for a catch down leg you thought hit his thigh pad.

That umpire doubled down on a poor decision.

Nice to get one back. Did Hawthorn break the AFL record (also held by them?) for shots at goal from free kicks?
