Pedlar was the one player that turned up for the finals.

He’s worth persisting on that fact alone.

Made the most of his 9 disposals in the QF. Not sure 4 touches from 77% TOG in the semi counts as ‘turning up’. With such a small sample size and given his general performances, I disagree that we persist based on a single finals game that’s very much an outlier.

I’d drop him without hesitation.

I'm bringing in ROB. I don't care if McAndrew and ROB just go 50/50 using that 5th bench spot. With McAndrew still inexperienced, we can't afford to be giving Maley/T.Murray game time as well - we might as well get some experience in to Mitch Marsh. We haven't addressed our ruck problem for the past 7 years and it's biting us now. It is too much to ask McAndrew to be rucking 80% of the time and the work rate we expect/need of Thilthorpe up forward means we don't have the luxury of using him as our 2nd ruck.

Taylor gets a proper crack in the midfield and Rankine spends more time in there as well. Soligo moves up forward, giving Rankine and Taylor more time in the midfield.

B: Bond Butts Worrell
HB: Milera N.Murray Michalanney
C: Cook Dawson Neal-Bullen
HF: Keays Walker Soligo
F: Fogarty Thilthorpe Rankine
R: McAndrew Rachele Taylor
I: Berry O'Brien Marsh Peatling Cumming

In: Dawson, Walker, O'Brien, Marsh
Out: Maley, Pedlar, Jones, Nankervis

I'm not sure how anyone can watch this footage and come to the conclusion "yeah we need to give this guy the flick". There's clearly an elite player in there, which might never come out - but at least give the kid the time to show it.
The problem is that he does a burst like that - which is great. But then he's cooked and can barely muster a jog for 10 minutes.
Playing midfield requires elite levels of fitness and repeat sprinting. Pedlar simply doesn't have that in his bag.

If he was a first or second year player, sure, but he's in his sixth season, and should be hitting his prime. How much more time are people really willing to give him?

No doubt that was a great piece of play, but he needs to be putting together more than one of those a game. Seven touches a game isn't going to cut it. Maybe he gets a reprieve, but if his numbers don't improve over the next 1-2 months, then he isn't going to make it. I have my doubts, at least Cook (from the same draft) looks like he's starting to realise his potential.

Imo, T Murray looked far better in ruck compared to Maley. No doubt he had debut nerves. Felt Cats won most Maley ruck contests.
Really good debate this Murray vs Maley.

I feel the work around the ground is more valuable than the ruck work for the second ruck, so I'm leaning Maley.

Maley had a great 3rd quarter but just hitouts in the 4th, so neither has grabbed their chance.

Maley also seems a heart and soul player who could have three ability to influence a game result once per year

Lost me at ROB.

It is a genuinely stupid move

It’s funny how hard it is for some people to let go of ROB. Anyone that watched the game on Thursday night should have concluded that Maley gave us something that ROB simply can’t and we should be seeing more of him, not swapping him out for a total unco that does nothing outside of ruck contests. We won the hitouts and only lost clearances by 7 with our worst midfield we’ve put out there for about 3 years. Ruck is not what we should be looking to change at the moment.

When McAndrew is totally puffed, bring ROB in for him, playing them together is insanity.

I’m not convinced. When someone is questioned on Jones not touching the football in a game with a reply “ when I looked he was in the right positions I could see” BS if he was in the right positions he’d be getting the football

Eh, I am not so sure about that one. I do remember Simpson agonising over the fact Christ Masten wasn't supposed to get the ball when talking about the Eagles 2018 side. I do think there is a place for coaches not wanting certain footballers to get the ball that often but run as a decoy of sorts.

Though, they really can't say anything else to the media outside of "happy with his work rate, shit day". You can infer they weren't because he was dropped afterwards.

I’d imagine there’d be missing context there. Along the lines of ‘if we’re doing everything right, then Masten shouldn’t be getting the ball’. But it never goes that way because opposition (that aren’t us) aren’t always predictable. Hence Masten averaging 20 disposals per game in 2018.

Still think it’ BS
Mind you it was a tactic I used without instructions

Can Dowling or Edwards play the Jones position? Purely on upside for years to come, I think I’ve seen enough of Jones there’s no ??? factor.
