The emergencies never are named in the 2’s. The Draper decision is purely to get him more game time playing midfield, last week surely showed that is what the coaches want.
I think all of us supporters would love to see him replacing Crouch in the midfield rotation, but unfortunately no clubs do this.

Although that promising looking lad Smodie Brith is pushing a strong claim for a debut as well.

I’m constantly amazed that players like Riley Sanders, who looked absolutely ready to go, had to play 30 games as a small forward before getting quality midfield time, and that’s only because of Treloar’s injury.
I can just imagine the conversation Nicks had with Edwards and Ryan when letting them know they didn't get selected.

He is an idiot, perfect week to play Draper in the middle to replace Crouch, and play either Edwards or Ryan at half back to replace Hinge. Smith should only be playing if all other options are injured. Ryan, Edwards and Bond should all be in front of him in the depth chart.

Isn’t there a whole selection committee? I want Nicks gone but geez we were making these dumb selection decisions under Pyke too.
We need a coach like Buckley who was a better player than Roo to come in so he can push back against the whole AFC system / culture.

Being a better player has very little to do with it
The club is never going to come out and say it’s finals or bust for nicks. But everyone knows that’s pretty much the case. The media know it. Nicks knows it. We know it.
There is no other answer. Clearly our coach is coaching for his job. Not the long term success of the club.
And so we are on a highway to nowhere. This bloke — and the club itself — is stalling our success. And the decision to pick Smith alone says everything we need to know — and suspected.
What’s even more damning is that Nicks genuinely thinks a cooked smith has something to offer in the first place.

So that would mean either Cook or Burgess coming off the emergencies list? I'd favour Cook out of those two, but it's uninspiring either way.
It’s pretty simple, Nicks is putting himself above the long term development of players, in his desperation to keep his job he has picked Smith because he knows if we drop the next 3 he is ****ed. He obviously thinks we have a better chance winning this week with Smith’s experience than we do with Edward’s debuting.
Neither are inspiring.
Cook provides something a little different, and he's pretty close to that last chance saloon scenario so you'd have to go with him. Burgess has the better SANFL form as a pure forward.
It took ONE half back to be missing for him to go for the guy that should have been delisted. He literally can't help himself.
