So who are the random Australian test cricketers over the last 15-20 years? The ones where you’re like, ‘Did they really represent Australia?’ Yes, yes they did.

I’ll start off with Bryce McGain.

Expand on your nomination as much or as little as you like. Fire away.

John Hastings.

Handy one day player picked as a specialist bowler in test cricket.

Unsurprisingly we conceeded 569 runs in the second innings and lost by over 300 runs and he didn't get a second test.
Excellent. I called him John Pastings for obvious reasons. I’m not sure how he managed as many international games as he did, I guess at ODI level he was fine but Test cricket...yeah nah.

Graham Manou. Came in at Lords I think. Still remember watching the 09 Ashes on SBS (Channel 5 broadcast) as a young kid and hearing the name.

Xavier Doherty ... and he managed 4 Tests!!!!

Incredible to me. I played against him a lot as a junior - I wasn't even very good and I used to tap him around. He never got me out either.

Selected because Aus thought they'd identified a weakness to left arm spin in Pietersen. They overlooked O'Keefe the left-arm spinner who was dominating the shield and was the one who personally got KP out in the tour game for Doherty who was averaging well north of 30. Presumably O'Keefe's behavioural issues are literally the only reason Doherty got the nod and it's a bit depressing O'Keefe basically proved the doubters 100% right very shortly after getting into the Test team.
