So, I've read part of the manifesto, and the guy is a complete nutter.

Constantly contradicts himself. Uses wikipedia links as his main form of fact checking.

Glad he took the time to add this bit....

"I had little interest in education during my schooling, barely achieving a passing grade."

....because I would never have guessed.

They got a decent part of the vote, but not a majority. Ultimately, it was because Von Papen's political pettiness (personal grudges against Schrlecher and he thought he and his conservatives could control Hitler) and von Hindenburg (hated Hitler) politically blinking in early 1933 that brought about the rise to power.

I know the details and it wasn’t intending to be a history lesson for all; my point was the myth that has been perpetuated that he rose to power based on popular support, and for that matter ruled with popular support, that has developed as we move further away from the history and those Nazi propagandist movies shadow fact

Genuinely good people, in a society that sets standards for progression that I wish our leaders would aspire to. We are hurting for you mate.

Well said.

Hope your mate Jisse W Smuth is doing okay, too.

For someone who steadfastly has avoided FB for a decade now, what and who uses FB Live Stream?

Go see the Boss in concert, live stream it to make your mates jealous. Go take a dump, live stream it so everyone knows you're regular. It's just past of the narcissistic world we live in where the World revolves around you.

Whatever happened to mind your own business?

I wouldn't sweat anything Candace Owens has to say, spurs. On any subject. She's a disingenuous, painfully-transparent political opportunist who appears to be going down a now well-trodden path favoured by a bunch of people of her ilk....

Step 1: Lay claim to liberal roots
Step 2: Profess to having an ideological epiphany that turned you towards conservative politics
Step 3: Spout a bunch of controversial far-right nonsense to gain notoriety
Step 4: With notoriety duly established, begin to slowly distance yourself from far-right elements/policies in a bid for mass appeal

Yawn. She offers absolutely nothing of value to political discourse. As you may have noticed from her tweets.

The Digital Age....so much to answer for.

(Oh, and since the 'capital N word' has been brought up....she's also one of those paranoid individuals who likes to lean a little too heavily on the whole 'Cultural Marxism' thing which, to paraphrase an earlier post from K4e, is a concept drawn straight from the circa-1940's Nazi handbook.)
Oh, I was already well aware that she was a moron.

I just found it gobsmacking that after being clearly named as an inspiration for one of the most heinous white supremacist massacre we've ever seen, the first response wasn't one of reflection on how that it could be the case, but one where she used the tragedy to attack those who disagree with her and to engage in the most shameless of self-promotion. For all her idiocy, for some reason I was surprised that she would sink so low.

I'm certainly no fan of PewDiePie, but at the very least he showed genuine disgust and contrition in the aftermath at being name-checked by the culprit.

I feel there is a step which is also popular. Find a politically neutral movement or fad and join/support the underdog for the dual purpose of creating the illusion of being supported by a politically diverse supporter base and simultaneously attempting to convert the center-right of that group by blurring the line between center-right and far right ideologies.

Empires rise. Empires fall.

Was really hoping we would start colonising space before the current cycle continued it's path. Alas, looking too late.

I fear space/mars colonisation is going to be an unmitigated disaster because humans are so fragile, it is hard enough and expensive enough just keeping a handful of people alive on the space station in extremely small and easily to contain pods, to try and create a colony on Mars with significantly larger structure and room for people to live a normal life is going to expose them to significant risk from engineering and technological failure where even minor failures could be life threatening due to the harsh environment.

I don't think it will be realistic until we get to the point where we are heavily modifying our genes to be a lot sturdier outside of an Earth-like environment.

"Queensland Senator Fraser Anning has been widely condemned for his “disgusting” comments in the wake of the fatal Christchurch mosque massacre.

In a media statement issued this afternoon, Senator Anning said the attacks highlighted the “growing fear over an increasing Muslim presence” in Australian and New Zealand communities."

Where does Queensland keep finding these airheaded dickheads to run for office and why do they keep voting for them? What a disgraceful thing to say.

Hard to figure out your line on free speech From this

If we agree that anning is in a minority, well ok, if he thinks some muslims are set on destroying Western society isn’t he allowed his opinion

Despite popular belief Hitlers 1933 election was not one which had the majority of voters in favour. The Reichstag Fire and the conspiracy around it propelled him into power which arguably was borderline illegal at the time. The Nazis then proceeded to strip back civil rights and the rule of democracy through the pretence of a civil emergency. This idea that the Nazis were a popular movement that obtained power legitimately through popularism is incorrect.
you can also blame President Hindenburg (who was President of Germany at the time) for this too (since he appointed Adolf Hitler as Chancellor)

I didn't say he shouldn't have a platform to speak, I said he is an air-head and I am exacerbated why that state breeds so many like-minded people and why they get into public office.

Look, muslims aren't responsible for white Australians refusing to reproduce, it is just complete bullshit. That is on white people. You feel your race is under threat, go make some babies. There isn't an international Muslim conspiracy that wills you not to reproduce.

Muslims make up about 2% of our population, the vast majority of our new intake of migrants come from India, China and the UK, the ones that come from majority Muslim countries are Pakistan (4.4% of migrants) and Malaysia (2.1% of Migrants). I am assuming the vast majority of muslims coming here are the more moderate ones who see the opportunity under a system of western values, why would anyone go out of their way to make them feel unwelcome?

A lot of uncomfortable similarities to how Trump did it (and is still).

But enough of him. I went to bed last night aware of the horrific events that had taken place in NZ, but there was little to no info on numbers. Woke up this morning to 49 and felt sick to my stomach. Giantroo and KiwiRoo, my thoughts go out to you. I guess all I can say is I'm so sorry we live in a world where this kind of deliberate act happens again and again and again.

It's being reported here in Canada that the shooter named Alexandre Bissonnette in his crap diatribes. Bissonnette killed 6 people in a Quebec mosque shooting last year. I remember it clearly, and how sick I felt then. All I can offer in way of hope is that in the aftermath of that shooting, the show of support for the Muslim community by people and leaders of all faiths was overwhelming, including the memorial held for the victims, which brought together thousands of diverse people and allowed leaders of each religion to speak. It didn't make up for the loss or the senselessness of it all, but it helped. I hope NZ can find some similar way to start the process of recovering. We could all start by just giving the person next us a hug right now. There aren't any words.

Not if she actually does it.

One could argue that she could potentially achieve it AND it could be a vote getting exercise.

I'd almost guarantee there will be *some* tinkering of the laws there. As to specifics I just don't know enough about their laws, but I'd expect a potential crackdown on some classes of weapons and retooling of databases/licenses.

I'd also say the chances of Australia retooling our laws to allow greater gun ownership just dropped like a stone.

Speech cannot be censored or punished just because of its hateful content.

But when you move beyond content, and look at the context, speech with a hateful message maybe punished, if in that context speech causes serious harm.

A good example is Abou Baker Bashir, the spiritual leader of the Bali bombers. His speech played a part in the carnige caused. I doubt anyone in Australia is defending his right to an opinion? He was rightfully convicted and jailed.

Fraser Annings comments are incorrect from a factual perspective, and also hateful with the desired outcome to make the majority fear the minority.

To have a Queensland senator agree with a calculated murderers logic for slaughtering innocent worshipers who were most likely looking for relief from a stressful day at work is disturbing on every level. But not surprising considering the trajectory of Australian politics and the bizarre introverted and in-ward facing backwater electrote that voted for him.

There are approximately 1.8 billion Muslims on earth who come from over 57 countries with different cultures, languages, education levels and denominations.

Its a known fact in any society, that newly arrived migrants have a higher birth rate.

This is a fact that applies to any migrant community that is seeking a better life. Chinese, indian, African, Eastern European. Birth rates, in practice have nothing to do with religion. My Vietnamese neighbour has 5 children. My mate who is of Irish decent and grew up in Wollongong hails from a family of 8. Religion has no direct correlation with faith.

What's interesting and has been proven by studies, is that the next generation has a markedly lower birth rate which continues to taper down as each generation progresses. And that reduction in birth rate is directly attributable to prosperity and educational attainment.

It's a fact. The more prosperous and educated the lower the birth rate.

If we're interested in a safe and harmonious society, I urge all to focus not on the content, but the context of speech. Then you will be in a better position to come to a conclusion.

Personally, I will continue going to the mosque. I don't fear white supremiscists, racists, or fear mongerers. I've lived with them in certain sections of Australian society all of my life. I've watched them.on t.v and even noticed their names on an electrote ballot.

But I'll tell you who I have a keen awareness of and absolutely ditest?

The undercover fascists, racists, anti-semites and islamophobes who I work with, are in government and lurk around these forums who hide behind honorable liberties such as free speech to encrypt and communicate their twisted logic.

These are the type that have destroyed the lands my parents came from. They are the silent drones that are cowardly, mischievous and very intuned to the encrypted messages from prominent figures of their ilk that have come to positions of power in government and the media.

Do you know how I and many people I know recognise them?

They are the exact same people who would advocate for the swift punishment and censorship of anyone who verbally supports the actions of a violent criminal who inflicts the same harm on their 'mob' while on the flip side, advocating for the protection of the 'liberties and free speech' of criminals from their ilk who comitt or encourage crimes against people they deem to be on the "other side'

Go the roos!

Why the hell would we want greater gun ownership in Australia in the first place? The less the better.
