Re: Tom Hawkins?..

Geelong value him and will not let him go. He is only 22 and with Pods nearing 30 they will need another key target to rely upon. Hawkins still has time to develop into that player.

FWIW I'd be interested in him.

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

Not a good footballer at this point in time. The hype surrounding him, particularly very early in his career, has been outrageous. Still youngish so has time to turn it around but whether he will or not remains to be seen.

However, I'd probably take him. However it would be highly unlikely as what the Cats would expect in a trade would most probably significantly exceed what any club would be willing to part with for his services.

Wouldn't be giving anything significant to get him, that is for sure. Fringe player and/or an average pick would be what I'd be willing to give up - and that would almost certainly not suffice for Geelong.

Re: John Butcher / Alipate Carlisle

Jesse White is a list-clogging spud.

This.

I'd be disgusted if the club so much as enquired about him, to be honest.

Has the body to be an outstanding footballer. However to be a success at AFL level these days you need so much more than that and White is severely lacking in numerous critical areas.

Depending on his contract situation, I'd be surprised if he's on an AFL list next season. A team may be tempted because if it clicks he may well turn out a player, but he's so far from it at the moment that it is ridiculous.

More than happy for our club to be scouring the lists of other teams for talent to try and bring to Visy Park but if Jesse White's name was on the radar I would be bemused to say the least.

Do not want.

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

I would love Hawkins as i still believe he will become a very good player in the next 3 years. He's still young and learning how to play his game. He is only 22 and only been in the system for about 4 years. people just need to wait.

Geelong however wont part with him, i still think he is a needed player at the cattery.

Im hoping we target Shaun Mckernan, Mitch Brown, Jackson Trengrove, Jordan Roughead, Sam Reid.

Hell id even take James Sellar right now just so we have someone to kick to

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

I'm with pretty much everyone else here. He'd be a handy player to get, but Geelong would want much more than he is worth for a trade to happen. If we somehow could get him for a 2nd rounder like the original poster said, then I'd do it for sure.

+1

Jesse is a crab! Played well against us once because we have weakness in defensive talls.

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

Want people's thoughts on the idea of getting Tommy Hawkins
to Carlton next year.

He would fill a need for us and provide a target to kick to.

Fwd line could Consist of;

Betts Hawkins Waite
Walker Henderson Garlett

Hawkins for a 2nd Rounder?
Straight swap for one of Bower/Armfield/McClean

Thoughts?

He is a total spud, might as well get fev.

Yeah like he does for Geelong?

Will be a waste of time, either go for somebody who is available that has proven they're not useless (I know we'd have to give up more to get someone like that but it could be worth it) or work with what we've got. Simple as that.

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

He has been fricken useless at Geelong, why would he be any different for us. When he first came on the scene I thought he would be a star, but he has done SFA so far and doesn't look like changing that anytime soon.

No Thanks.

Couldn't agree more Toadman, think we just draft a young developing key forward somewhere in the draft and put time into him which is exactly what we would be doing with Tomahawk after we pay over the odds for him.

My main mission would be trying to get Dawes from the Pies, he is one I wouldn't mind paying slightly more for!

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

He would fill a spot on the list but not much more.

Would rather we tried Mitchell, Levi, McCarthy etc as they have not had a chance to prove they are not up to a key forward post at this stage of their careers. 4 years in the system with plenty of game time and he has yet to show any indication he will be a dominant forward.

No thanks.

Add to that the best midfielders to give the best supply to a forward.

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

There's no way on earth that Geelong would swap him for a second rounder or for any of the players that you mentioned.

He will be a decent player in the future, and Geelong know that.

Re: Tom Hawkins?..

No thanks. We have enough talented players with confidence issues. Besides, Cats would want a lot more than his trade value is (AKA not much).

We are better off trying to offload one of our smaller blokes and a first rounder for a good developed tall.

Not against Hawkins but do value the point made above. We do seem to have an issue with mental stability with some on our list. We have heaps of talent but are not as secure from a confidence and composure standing as what we need if we are to win premierships. This is why the inclusion of guys like Laidler and Duigan have improved us considerably this year. They both appear to be very solid emotionally when under pressure. So in recruiting it would be good to look for more players with their composure.
