Hodge has hardly played. Smith has been playing in different roles he is spending a lot of time down in defence. Running off half back
All true and I'm not saying they aren't pulling their weight when they play just pointing out we have missed their presence forward this year on the scoreboard.

Some of it is quite obviously by design so far and some by circumstance. I will be watching our forward setups with interest over the next two months to see how much ball we continue to channel through TOB and Sis, and how much time we see both Billy and Hill forward of centre vs Smith

Hill contrary to what others have said about his non involvement and I seem to recall someone saying that he was being hidden in the forward line. Far from it. He is not being hidden there. He is there to provide another head ache for opp defences. For example in the Nth game Hill was moved forward to provide a mismatch which meant we had rioli or breust or poppy on an inexperienced / slower player. I remember seeing atley who was spending a lot of time on breust then moved off him to cover hill and others. It changed the game up in the second qtr enough for our small forwards to get involved.

Can't remember the game, but saw a very interesting stat on the weekend.

One player had 2 contested possessions, but only 1 disposal. How good is the contested possesions count?
A contested possession is counted if a player grabs the ball, gets tackled and a ball up is called. Thats what I believe anyway

Comparing that to last year
Gunners, Punky, Sizzle and Poppy all look to equal or beat last year which is a great effort
Sicily could end up covering a big chunk of Rough's goals and TOB could end up around Schoey's output
BB could end up with more goals than Hale
Smith and Hodge kicked over 20 goals each last year, don't see them getting back to those numbers
Hill a bit down on last year, Hartung will end up around last year probably
Lewis should be up on last year but Shiels is well down and that still leaves Suckling input that we have lost.

It's a very different team than last year obviously, it will be interesting to see how this next two months goes some of those guys really had very good finals series to boos their totals

Always hard to compare years, we have barely buried any side early in games this year. Kills the chance for the mids and half backs to hit the scoreboard.

For the first time since losing to St Kilda by five points in Round 12 1927, Hawthorn has a positive record in games decided by six points or fewer. Hawthorn had a 2-1 record in such games after beating North Melbourne by four points in Round 2 1926. After the loss to the Saints, the ledger remained squared at 2-2 (with one draw) for the rest of 1927 but then, after losing by three points in Round 1 1928, it remained in deficit until the three point win against Adelaide in Round 5 this season. That tied the record back up at 108 apiece, with ten draws and now, after the win against Sydney, the wins are ahead 109 to 108.

2016 has become the fourth season in which Hawthorn has recorded four wins by six points or fewer in a season, the others being 1999, 2001 and 2010.

If you remove the results before the first of May.

Hawthorn 10 wins 1 lost ave for 104 ave against 69.5 149.5% take that fox footy.

Richmond has now conceded more than they have scored.

Interesting stat. No team has a positive percentage against hawthorn in the last 4 years:

Let's not upset Melbourne's record this week then.

In the past 4 olympics Michael Phelps has won 21 gold medals. Australia has won 43 gold medals. IN YOUR FACE MICHAEL PHELPS!!!

This would explain the contested possession against us stat.

Excuse the interruption and hope this is the right thread for this question. Assuming you win the flag again this year, what do you think your best 22 side would be picked from all the players who took part in the premierships from 2013 to 2016?

Apologies if a thread already exists on this.

Toughy. I'm going to do it based on GF performances from the past 3 years.

FB: Stratton Lake Frawley
HB: Burgoyne Gibson Birchall
C: Hill Mitchell Smith
HF: Gunston Roughead Rioli
FF: Breust Hale Puopolo
R: McEvoy Hodge Lewis
Int: Shiels Langford Schoenmakers Duryea

And no, I didn't forget Buddy. And no, it's not bitterness. He simply didn't play as big a role in his one game (2013) compared to the combined performances over multiple GFs or better once offs of those in the 22.

Suckling, Guerra, Sewell, Buddy, Simpkin and Spangher are the ones who've missed out.

So our first quarter on the weekend got me thinking. I went back over the last three seasons looking at our first 20 H&A games each year. I wrote down each quarter where Hawks kicked 7 or more goals in the quarter and compared this season to the last two.
upload_2016-8-15_13-19-40.png

2015 we had two games where we kicked 7 goals in consecutive quarters against Sydney and Carlton, 2014 and 2016 we only ever had one quarter in a game where we were that dominant.

In 2014 we averaged 112 ppg in 2015 110ppg and in 2016 97 ppg
So we have dropped off 2 goals on average with Rough and Schoey missing most of the year and guys like Sis and TOB holding down key posts in our forward line as well as no games from Hale with his retirement.

At the start of the year if you told me we could do that I would have taken it in a heartbeat as Rough is so important to our scoring potential.

The win against Collingwood now makes Clarkson the coach with the most wins of all the current AFL coaches with 180.
He passes Rodney Eade who has 179.

Friday week's Qualifying Final will be our first final without either Jarryd Roughead or Lance Franklin since...the Goldspink preliminary final of 2001!
