Well it kind of depends on if you want them to fit your team or if say you were GWS starting up a new side. I'll say the latter because its fairer.

I know it sounds like excuses but I still think Watts needs more time. All we know so far is that he probably wont ever be a monster type player but he's certainly good enough to play AFL. By the end of this year we will probably know if he'll be a CHF and how good he might be or whether he'd be better at CHB or even as a Goddard/Goodes style midfielder (not saying he'll be as good as them).

Although I don't consider the gap to be a huge one. For me Watts is stuck without a clear position at the moment. He isn't going to be an effective tall forward until he gets bigger which is doubtful, but he is obviously very capable with ball in hand and can rack up numbers. A Richo-esque wing role may be the way to go. If so he could rocket to the top of these lists

Watts still has the most potential out of all of them.

Atheltically he's on another level, and he's amazing at ground level and his field kicking is great.

I have no idea how his career will turn out. Could be anything.

I love Hurley, he's a great player and will continue to be a great player.

Henderson I don't rate that highly, but again, young KPP's take time and he might break out in 2012.

Haven't seen enough of Reid to comment.

As a general rule, they disgust me.

I assume he's good. I just don't see a problem with admitting when I don't know much about a player.

I'm not sure about Dawes, for example. A guy like that is very reliant on gaining his rep through being a part of a good system.

Is Reid similar? Or is he genuine quality?

I'm a big fan of Nathan Brown btw, reckon he's the second best young defender in the league behind James Frawley.

End of careers - Hurley, Watts, Henderson, Reid.

I put it down to this - Reid is one of the best young defenders in the comp BUT all of the other 3 have shown potential at both ends of the ground in the last 2 seasons. If reid plays a couple of games up forward and can jag a goal I'm happy to put him back up to 1/2 but the versatile nature of AFL leads me to picking the other 3 long term.

If it was pick the best defender then Reid would own this all day long but for overall players, I think that Hurley, Henderson and Watts will finish with more decorated and well remembered careers because of their ability to play anywhere.

I think Watts is the most interesting and tbh I wouldn't put it past him to end up as a full time midfielder ala Richo and Pav once he bulks up. This is assuming of course that Mitch Clark stands up and the Dees get their forwardline settled.

A bit odd you can rule a line through Dawes and make a big call on Brown who missed the entire season and half the year prior, yet make a neutral call on Reid who was AA last year and has barely missed a game in two years...on the grounds that you havent seen him much?

How does that work?

Your question doesn't really make sense mate. Are you asking why I remember certain playuers and not others? Or how my own perception of football works?

I guess I don't know, its just what I remember and what I don't. What stands out and what doesn't. What I notice and what I don't. You know, the whole function of human memory and perception isn't really a speciality of mine so I can't really explain it to you.

Its not as if I've come out and ridiculed Reid, I've just admitted that I don't think I've seen enough of him to comment.

I guess with Dawes, it becomes apparent faster that he some serious deficiencies and might be benefiting from his team mates more than you'd expect an elite forward to have to do.

And with Brown I suppose it was just readily apparent that the guy is a genuine gun defender. It perhaps didn't take me long to make my mind up on it. Kind of like the first time I saw Jack Trengove play - I just knew he'd be a gun immediately. Some players just have "it".

And with Reid, I guess I've seen him a bit, but not enough tom make a judgement. I don't feel I need to hold some opinion on every player in the league. Some I do. Some I don't. I'm no expert. But I make judgement calls on players I think I've got an insight into.

Have you ever read the Malcolm Gladwell book "Blink" ? It gives a good summation of how people make snap judgements, and how they're usually right, but can't explain them later.

Maybe read that if you want to know how I arrived at my conclusions, its a pretty interesting book
