Grumpy Olds will remember begging our Baby Boomer Parents to stay up and let us watch the Roos play mid week out at Waverley for the Escort Cup on a school night..and who can ever forget the joy of mentioning Kerry Good the next morning to Pies fans, and some may need to squint their mind’s eye back to the Lakeside Oval for some midweek night games back in the day. I am tipping a few even attended above?

Yes it’s Game Day

Mid week and welcome debutant Hosie (46) and the return of (W)Walker

5.40 start

North by 5 points

I can say I was there Gifo. Was a young lad, but I do recall the Collingwood faithful took it well. o_O

Anyway, yeah it does have the feel of a late 70's - early 80's night comp about it. North by 3 packets of darts.

I've just got tickets to go tonight. Any other BF'ers going?

Any requests for canteen reviews?

On SM-G965F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Hazey, I just had a look at tickets - it says I need to buy in pairs as a minimum, so that's $60 just to get in!
Plus at least 4 schooners and an Uber home and I'm looking at over $100. I'm not sure if I wanna spend that much

It's about this time every year we either:

a) s**t the bed after confounding the critics and playing a streak of disciplined and/or winning football - eg 2003, 2005, 2016, 2018 etc

or

b) have a mad little burst to move out of the really pointy end of the draft - 2001, 2009, 2019 etc

Option A sailed long ago but Option B is still in play.

Mark me down for a 35 point win and Lachlan Hosie to continue in the spirit of our last SA forward in applying a fair bump that result in a rule change.

I ask that other supporters join me in dreaming and believing - a top 10 spot is still within our reach if we commit to each other.

Queensland has not had one free to air North game this year. Sh!ts me. Kayo has finally got me.

And our kulcha will be intact.

I already had Netflix so I swapped login details with a mate.
Now I still have Netflix but also Kayo for the same price.
same for my mate. Win win
I've heard you can do that. I'll ring around a few mates.

Gotta say that this 20-days of football thing ain’t that fabulous for people relying on free to air. And at a time when there’s not much else to do...

To be honest it ain't that fabulous full stop. I now know why we don't play 34 games in a compressed season- the quality of the football is dire. Port looked like they had lead in their saddle bags, the Doggies were abysmal and the Lions were a shadow of the team that dispatched Essendon last week. Tigers didn't look that crash hot either until just before half time, but they are a testament to system over watchability. Not much I agree with Tef, but I'm with him that the Tigs are one of the least "footballing" successful sides in history.
(Also not trying to suggest that North are saviours of the game in the entertainment stakes - if I wasn't invested I'd struggle to get to full time in some of our matches.)

I feel like that T-shirt, with a picture of an alien spaceship pictured on the front, captioned....... I Believe

Jed to bash 'em up for 3 qtrs then J Polec to run over them in the last while everyone's running in mud.

Polec to temporarily disable 6 different Geelong players with his newly perfected torpedo punt utensil punch kicks.

It'll be football's answer to Bodyline and what's better Clarkson will seethe that he never thought of kicking the ball into the man on the mark's nuts to create a -1 contest.

Aw heck i would just settle for a competitive and interesting game with a similar goal kicking accuracy to the weekend, pretty damn excited over Hosie and Skywalker , my head is still spinning from all the long term injuries suddenly becoming available in a pretty short amount of time.

I don't think we're in for a flogging but think the Cats might have a bit more class than us in terms of skills and speed.
Honourable loss, give them a run for their money, then beat the Dees on sunday and keep roughly the same draft position.

Since when have teams lined up as announced?

Don't we just give a list of players and AFL Media decided where to place them?
I thought the starting 18 as named had to start the game, not necessarily in the named positions. I seem to recall some last minute running on/off before the first bounce because of that a few weeks ago.

It hurts that we are still within reach of the top 8 while planning out the two top five draft picks

Was only the Crows last week but I saw good signs.

Let's bring the pressure and I think the result can go our way.

We aren't good enough to win if not switched right on so I want the boys up and about from the first bounce.

If we lose but give it our best shot I can deal with that.

GO NORTH!

What honestly gives you reason to believe we're a good chance at winning tonight? I've seen this 'stop being so negative' crap every game for the last six weeks, and the only time it was justified was against the witches hats last week. We have been woeful this season. As soon as teams turn up the pressure against us, we fall apart. Why should anyone on this forum be optimistic about tonight given the crapshoots that we witnessed against actual AFL sides in the six weeks preceding last game? I'm more than happy for the boys to surprise me, but this blind 'be optimistic despite all evidence that suggests we shouldn't be' attitude is just dumb.
Time and place for everything. Game day before the bounce is for blind optimism, quarter time is for burn it all down, trade everyone and sack everyone else.

No matter what my state of mind in the week leading up, no matter how good or bad we are, no matter what my actual rational opinion of our chances is, at the first bounce I always think we're somehow going to win. Otherwise why would you watch?

It's an outcome of the shortened season.

How many wins gets finals?

Around 9 if it's similar to the rate of wins required out of 22 being 12 = 54%

54% x 17 = 9.18

We only need to win another 6 to end up 9th on %
