Even though stats mainly mean bugger all to me, ill play your game and looked up the AFL stats and include some stats they omitted:

DE% - 33.3% (3rd worst on ground behind Charlie and Bewley) - 'little down on efficiency', how bad is it normally?
Clangers - 7 (Match high - no frees against either to inflate that stat)

The above shows what I was on about, disposal was woeful yesterday - effort great (as always), disposal not so much.

But again, I don't care much for stats, I saw what I saw watching the game and made my opinion based on that. Disagree if you like (or quote one-sided fan twitter feeds), its good discussion.

I know Dow kicked a goal and dished off a nice pass. But with only 7 possies and a few bad clangers, should he be dropped. I don't think he had much impact. Not sure if that was because he played in the forward pocket.
I would give a game in the 2's to rack up some touches and polish and maybe give Deluca a run. Am I being too harsh on Dow?

Interesting. Why Deluca? I saw he played VFL but does he deserve a game or just to see what he has?

From the reports he picked up 20 touches in pretty ordinary conditions, whilst being tagged.

Just not sure what role we bring him in for. Seems a midfielder first, but I can't help but think he'll end up like Gibbons and get hidden in a pocket for 5+ games, which doesn't really benefit anyone.

Perfect scenario for the board. Just let it play out and make a decision at the end. Members are happy and should have big crowds for the rest of the year. Board and key personnel were decisive when they needed to be.

Good pickup BB Fyfe did exactly the same at the start of the 3rd qrt as well just let his opponent Jack waltz away with the pill .
Quite bizarre for a player of his standing .

There's no doubt Walsh had an uncharacteristically poor game when it comes to his disposals.
For a time there it seemed like every time he touched it, it resulted in a turnover.

No big deal though that's going to happen time to time, but what's impressive is his workrate to get so many possessions and apply so much defensive pressure. He's a gun.

Good life being the best of the best, usually get away with being a bit slack defensively.

Neither Fyfe or Cripps are great spreaders from a contest either or runners in general...Cripps openly admits it regularly in interviews.

Of course both do so much good stuff throughout a game we can overlook a few slack defensive efforts...they're probably gassed/banged up from all the good work they do sometimes they choose to conserve their energy.

Just watched the replay and it's even better the second time around. Don't want to single blokes out because everyone did their bit and went when they had to. Collective pressure and we stuck tackles that we would have slipped off for the last couple of years. Shows physical and mental growth across the board, bodes well for the future if we can keep this group together. Loved the finish because it highlighted the sense of belief around the place. Would be a happy recovery session today, barring the injured fraternity of course.

Yeah, I loved it too. LOB trying to throw whatever weight he has to back Bam Bam, and then big Cas coming in to get LOB's back. This chain was great to see. A big difference from the disheartening lack of any chain a few weeks ago - in the North game for instance.

I was pretty sceptical about axing Bolts when we did. I didn't feel comfortable that we weren't behaving like the Carlton of old and shooting ourselves in the foot by going about it that way. I'm beginning to come around to the idea that it probably should have happened. I think Teague is a keeper for the top job. IMO He's getting a good uplift in performance from the boys whilst honouring the good groundwork laid by Bolts. Most importantly, he has shown that he's a dynamic game-day strategist. This has such a positive compounding effect on ALL of Carlton's stakeholders which I love.

....and I think Teague has learnt his lesson about dropping JSOS last game. Regular stats are not the be-all and end-all.

Yes, I got blasted by an old marsupial regarding being keyboard Warrior etc. for trying to compare our young kids with in his words the meanest "Junk Yard dogs" in the history of the club (70's 80's Mosquito fleet). Point I was making, and still stand by, is if an opposition player plays dirty or does the wrong thing, as a team, regardless of size and the consequences they should be all over them like a swarm of bees. Flying the flag should be auto pilot when playing for each other and the jumper.

What Lochie The Hulk O'Brien did is what is expected if you want to be a contender. He did not think of the consequences (lucky Cas was around) and just acted on instinct in the heat of the moment. He stood up because he wanted to, and it was the right thing to do.

In regards to Teague and his coaching, I think the big difference is that the boys are playing with a freedom they never had, this is resulting in better performances and less of a load on their minds giving them the opportunity to get emotionally involved in the contest which leads to being invested and flying the flag, rather than playing with fear of error and self preservation mode.

Possibly Bolts would have benefited from a few more years as an assistant before making the jump to head coach. Maybe a few years at a different club too, in a different system. A less successful environment than Hawthorn, to see up close how some clubs really battle. Who knows?

I think most coaches past and present have a real difficulty getting the balances right with sharing the loads to their assistants, for example it took Hardwick up until him nearly getting the flick to start delegating more sensibly...

Second quarter... our structures have settled down a bit and we are playing with more fluidity. Our attack on the ball was especially good and probably drop Lyon nuts trying to counter it.

Umpires still inconsistant. Walsh trip, Kreuzer getting at least one two handed push in the back that took him out of the ruck contest. Marchbank marks in defence, the freo player pushes him over when there is no need. The mark had been completed and it should have been a 50... not paid.

And then there was the free kick that should have gone to Jack, but was instead paid to Conca for over the shoulder. What a crock of shite. If he hadn't been all over Jack, then he wouldn't have forced Jack's arm up over his shoulder. That bullshit free kick led directly to the shockers kicking their only goal of the quarter!

Carlton were definitely on the improve in that quarter. SPS really picked up the pace and our defence took control of their forward line in the second. Gov actually started making a nuisance of himself flying for marks and impacting marking contests to bring the ball to ground.

I don't so much have a problem with the decision itself but it was poor umpiring to not immediately indicate which way the free was being paid when the more likely free was to the man going for the ball.

Thomas sprinted forward to get involved and left Matera free who was then involved in the chain that resulted in the goal.
