Autopsy Rd 4 Blues annihilated by 86 points

Ive gotten used these loses and can understand that the club is rebuilding/injuries/whatever excuse you want to give, and it will take time.

What sucks when the kids get up tomorrow and will want to watch the replay, and yet again i will have to pretend it didnt record.

I was told in no uncertain terms by my 7yo that if we lost to the pies he would probably change teams. We got through last week due to having a ripping day at the blues junior footy clinic. The kids had a ball meeting and doing some drills with the players. It re-ignighted the passion for the blues in my boys.

**** knows how they will react tomorrow.
Get an old video from the 70s or 80s out and pretendits the game fom tonight..

Surely we gotta question Amos and Barker. Stoppages have been woeful beyond belief. It’s not skill or age when players just aren’t running in good patterns and working together at stoppages. Can’t believe how poor that area of our game is and we have Cripps!!

It honestly feels like any part of the ground that Barker coaches goes from a strength to a complete mess.

For the short sighted whingers my perspective before I go and have a drink and celebrate a fine debut

Youngest list we have ever had and we are playing most of them
Long list of injuries to key players which at this stage we need to be competitive
Kennedy Kruezer are playing injured
Given their experience and support SPS Fisher Charlie Marchbank Silvagni O'Brien Dow show positive signs
It is hard to cover one young player in an AFL side. 12 or so is impossible.
Kids do not consistently influence games. Physically we can't match especially with tackling and pressure
Rebuild is trying to be fast tracked
This is the year for some elite mature bodies and couple more talented kids.
We have most positions well covered
We will fight through this and come out the other side a much better side and club
OShea Jones Thomas Lamb Mullett Shaw Casboult will not be part of best 22 in 2019/20

Mark this down and feel free to come at me if proven untrue as I know most will not say anything if I'm right

1. We will win more than 4 games this year
2. 2nd half will be a lot better
3. 2019 will see significant improvement
4. 2020 will be finals or very close
5. A lot of posters will go missing then

I know we'll get through this, my only concern is player retention due to disillusionment and the attraction of high-quality FA when clearly the only way we are going to obtain them is by overpaying (FA selling his soul for cash), yet we are reluctant to open the cheque book.

That's where the plan becomes somewhat clouded and unclear.

That's it. Enough is enough.

I called for us to drop several players after that piss poor effort against GC. It didn't happen.

As a result, these blokes have become complacent with their spot on the team and play like they don't GAF.

I don't care if we have to put a freaking training hat out there next week, Weitering MUST be dropped.

Same as Jones, O'Shea and Mullett.

But I want to make it clear, it's not just those 4. Apart from a select few, the whole team needs to be put on notice.

So does the coaching staff. I'm sorry, but that lack of intensity and effort doesn't just happen out of having a young side out there. These players are not motivated at all.

We didn't just lose by 86 points to a good team on the rise, we lost by 86 points to a team who finished bottom 4 and only ONE spot ahead of us last year.

Totally unacceptable.
Drop for whom. That would require players chomping at the bit to get a run.

I agree with all you say here. It is my feeling on our progression. My only query is on the health of our list as far as how far we can improve in the latter part of the year. I can see us bringing in ASOS or Rowe to provide guidance and experience, and Pickett, Marchbank, Lang, Murphy coming in will improve our structure.

As for LOB, I did predict 15 disposals for him tonight. Fell short but I feel he is far more contested than the draft pundits expected, and has a heap of poise. He will be a real accumulator with his tank and pace.

Murphy, Kreuz, Bam Bam potentially all having injuries is what makes this even more sour.

Soapy, I hope you and the family are proud of Lochie mate. He did fantastically tonight. Real shining light.

Kennedy came back and and looked ok, ran full pace at a contested ball.

Murphy will be weeks and Kruez, well we know his history.

My greatest concern is if we keep going down this path, Cripps and Curnow will start looking for greener pastures
Can’t blame them either. Look at their stats if they were in a contender team they would be much much better. There greatness is being held back by Carlton. I wouldn’t be angry if they left, just disappointed for our sake

I think we need to remember one key point. Players peak is 24-28 roughly. Unfortunately we have effectively no great or even good players in that age bracket.

Anger should be channeled at list management long before the last 3 years.
What about lack of effort and intensity, where do i channel my frustrations for that??

Went to the game tonight, first time I've seen them play live for quite some time.

I've been focusing on the positives the past few weeks, and have still been optimistic. But after tonight, i am struggling to see any positives.

I know that this rebuild will take time, but I'm so sick of losing :( hate to say it, but I'm pretty emotionally checked out right now after months of anticipation over the pre season. I just want to see some effort and pressure...isn't that what is supposed to define us? Not seeing much of it lately.

Having grown up in the worst era of Carlton's history, I've seen some beltings, I've seen us lose our home ground and I've seen us go through multiple coaches and still I don't think I've ever been more embarrassed and angry with the club as I am tonight. I said it back when all the talk about trading Gibbs began and it's turned out to be completely correct. We are exposed horribly without him. Now Gibbs isn't a Dangerfield or Fyfe but he was a quality midfielder for us, and losing any sort of half decent midfielder hurts this team something shocking. Tonight we had one good midfielder on the ground, Patrick Cripps.

All the optimists will tell us how inexperienced we are, how rebuilds take time etc and I will agree somewhat. But when you get completely pantsed by North Melbourne there is reason to be ****ing furious and disillusioned with where this club is going. They are a bottom 8 side, they are blooding youngsters just like us and they certainly shouldn't be the type of team you lose by a 100 points to. And at some stage guys like Charlie Curnow will become sick of playing for a rabble and will want out. These guys don't play AFL for 40 years. They want to win games eventually. At least if they've got half a brain. Losses like this do us absolutely no favours at all.

There are major issues with our list. Issues that may seriously prevent us from going up the ladder in the next few years. We apply absolutely no proper pressure around the ground, teams do as they please. This completely baffles me as I feel we remained competitive the last few years under Bolton by pressuring the opposition heavily. We have too many slow players and we seriously need some quality midfielders. We should be going all out in the next two years to get an established gun. Forget about drafting another midfielder and hoping he comes good. Once again tonight it was like watching boys against men in the middle.

Positives: O'Brien looked up to it at AFL level and I thought he did well considering the pressure the defence was under. Cripps showed he cares and it's infuriating seeing teams being able to tag him heavily out of the game because we've got no other players to hurt them. Thought Charlie Curnow once again battled well in a dysfunctional forward line and he's also dealing with bombs into forward 50.

Negatives: Where to start?

Weitering needs to be dropped. Enough's enough. He is devoid of confidence and you can pretty much see him doubting his ability on the field. If he truly was a pick 1 level player then he should be good enough to go down to the VFL and win back his AFL spot.

Jones was rubbish. His AFL moment is over but sadly I think he'll hang around in the team because of the Weitering situation and the lack of talls available. His 1 on 1 work is some of the worst I've ever seen.

Jack Silvagni's kicking. I like how Jack tries and seems to know where the footy is going, but his disposal is deplorable. He will never make it if he continues to butcher the ball so much. A player like him without speed needs to be good by footy.

Body language. I'm seeing a lot of the young guys drop their heads. There is almost no leadership to rev them up and give them guidance. It's embarrassing. We are at risk of becoming Melbourne of a decade ago.

No. It's just not finsihed yet

I know it's not. We may be a year out in the balance of it is all. I do think people get a bit carried away with players not fitting our age profile when they might be useful to hold together our structure and game plan for a year or two while the kids develop.

Our injury list:
Murphy
Willo
Marchy
Lang
Byrne
ASOS
Pickett
Docherty

All the above are starting 22 and would make a BIG difference and whilst we are all extremely disappointed from lack of effort, from a personel point of view those players would make us more competitive.
We have been using injuries as an excuse for years , time to just accept where we are. We aren’t the only team...

I'm generally very positive about the direction of the club, but we have lost any cohesion created over the past few years.

You can paint it any way you want, the young guys aren't going to be benefitting from playing in such a disorganised mess, and with such abominable backline with players either out of form (Jones, Weitering, Plowman) or severely short on talent (O'Shea, Mullett).

We are a rabble. Instead of playing to our strengths (defensive) we chose to cave in to the media crap of us playing “unsexy” football and adopt a game style that our list has no hope of playing.

We continue to play players who don’t deserve senior games (Dow, Weitering) and think that we are this strong Hawthorn/Sydney side that can carry these players.

We spend all this money poaching David Teague from Adelaide to give us a more dangerous forward line set up - only to have the ball bombed in to packs of nobody up forward.

Pretty simple, we don't have 22 "deserving" players.

It is going to take a little while to gather my thoughts but in the meantime I just wanted to note how sad it was to see JSOS basically in tears as the team left the ground. No question that he felt the pain of the loss. Carlton boy through & through, unlike that scumbag wearing #30 for the opposition.
