Last night i just rode around, ended up helping some farmer take out a heap of rustlers, found some dudes horse that he had a disturbing relationship with, rescued a sherrif and took out his captors, had a duel, found 2 gold bars and completed a sharpshooter challenge on the train.

Progress on story = zero

Fun had = Lots:D

Haha, that's basically what's been happening to me. I've been doing the story by accident more than anything else.

Horse question (apologies if it's already been asked): when I break a horse I get info pop up that items are unlocked in the shop, is this the deed for the horse? I broke in a dark coloured horse, faster than the stallion, got off it to skin an animal before I'd taken it back to town and when I got up it was gone. I whistled and the stallion came running over. Also, if I buy the deed to what I assume is the stallion and then it dies do I get another one?

My understanding...

Break a horse, and hitch it in a town...allows you to buy the deed i believe. Once you have the deed, if the horse dies you open your satchel, activate the deed, and in few minutes your horse is back

If you don't buy the deed and it dies, you'll just get your boring old stock horse back

Thats what i do with the War Horse anyways, pretty much the only one i use

You got the lasso yet bro? If not, you need to do the breaking mission with bonnie.

You lasso it, Jump on the back and use the left stick to balance on it until it calms down. Then you take it to a town and hitch it to make it your new steed.

They are a bit flighty to start with, but feed them a few apples and they'll follow you like a shadow
 
Lasso it and then quickly run up to it, press triangle and play the balancing mini-game to completion.
 
OK anyone else done the stranger mission
about the little hut with the water underneath it? I did it, and I doubt anyone else was as dumb as me but I gave the guy $200 for the deed. Then took it back to the stranger and he gave me $15 for it, and the cinematic played out as if I'd shot the guy anyway. Of course I then nailed the stranger in the dome and got the deed back, hope I can sell it or something.

I guess they really didn't anticipate people being as dumb as me?

I've done that one,
I actually intended to pay the guy the $200, there was a rabbit running around when I pulled up outside his hut. I drew the Springfield to shoot the rabbit and the old guy pulled his weapon and I had to kill him. Oops

I did it the vanilla way, paid the guy and got paid by the dowser in return. Nothing has happened since but i guess something will play out

When I handed over the deed the
water prospector saw there was blood on it, got shitty, lost a bunch of honor points and then he warned me that the old guy had a son and I'd better keep it quiet unless I felt like taking on a whole family.

I just did the dumbest thing. I stopped to help a lady but was ambushed by bandidos. For some reason I panicked and jumped off my horse and drew my shotgun. Unfortunately without realising, the first thing I targeted was my horses head. Bye bye Goldy, you will live on in my memory.........and a respawn horse.

I had a similar tale of woe.

Early on, wanted to get the sharpshooter challenge of nailing 5 birds. Riding through wilderness, spot a flock of vultures circling a carcass. This will do the trick i say, bail off the horse on the run and aim the rifle at the first bird....

Horse continues to wander after i bail, straight into my line of fire and cops the first round through the eye...dead.

RIP Captain Doodlefeatures. I'll never forget you:(....well, until i sell your hide and meat for horse tranquilliser i guess.

Other bonehead thing i did was buy the bandana, and put it on straight away because it looked cool. Was about 3 hours later i realised i wasn't getting any honor points because of it:o

Haha, has anyone not accidentally shot their horse? I killed my first horse pretty much the same way, jumped off on the move, rifle up to the shoulder, horse looked like it was trying to look down the barrell as I pulled the trigger. Lost honour points for it too.

I haven't as of yet. BUT I have sent my horse into water not knowing that you can't actually swim in this game (which I really don't get tbh, bit disappointing). I had the golden horse that you get and lost it then. Now I've got the red horse with a white arse.

Horses can swim in real life so that bit is a bit odd.

As for Marston not being able to swim...tbh back then the majority of people couldn't swim and viewed water as a bit of an unknown. Even sailors usually never learnt to swim because they thought it a bad omen and would rather drown quickly if their ships sank...true story.

So i can buy that bit
 
I was trying to get ahead of a train to get the place a hogtied woman on the train tracks achievement. I was obviously pushing my horse to hard as he regrettably had to buck me whilst on the train tracks just ahead of the train. I veered off the tracks when bucked and tried with all my might to whistle that horse of the tracks but it was too late, his body exploded on impact to the train :(.

Anyone finished it yet? How long did it take you if so? I am trying to take it slow, as I am getting worried that I will do it too quick. I always go exploring, do the stranger missions and try play some poker etc. I have done all the Marshal missions and Bonnie missions (at the moment I'd say). Does it matter what order I do Irish's, West Dickins and Seth missions? They seem all linked to one another, I wanna do as much missions as I can. Sorry if that sounds a bit dumb, probably is haha.

If it's worrying you, just ride around and stuff will happen that will easily kill a few hours.

Check out stuff like the sharpshooter, hunting, treasure and survivalist challenges in your journal. They'll keep you occupied and all have real benefits

Im finding riding around in this game is giving me terrible right thumb pain. anyone else experiencing this? the repetitious button pressing to ride i reckon is causing it.
 
Any Hints on what I'm doing wrong as I 'm having trouble lassoing wild horses.
I'm on my horse riding up to a wild horse, but every time I lasso it, it doesnt stick. It initially does, but almost immediately it comes off.
I don't have any trouble doing the same lassoing bad guys from my saddle, and I had no trouble getting my initial horse in the Bonnie mission.
Any hints as to what I need to be doing? Is there a limit to the number of horses you can catch?
