RICHMOND first-year young gun Reece Conca has launched contract negotiations expected to confirm his long term commitment to the Tigers rising under coach Damien Hardwick.

Richmond young gun Reece Conca is in contract talks with the Tigers

Conca, 18, has settled into the emerging young Tigers as a vitally creative half-back and started discussions with Richmond officials last month.

His talks on a new Tigers deal slams the door on any prospects Conca could be targeted by new AFL franchise Greater Western Sydney at the end of next season.

Conca plays this season and next year on a standard AFL contract for a draftee but has been linked as a possible recruit for the Giants if he didn’t have a Tigers deal beyond 2012.

Conca was plucked by the Tigers with their important first pick and number six overall at last year’s national draft.

His manager Colin Young confirmed that discussions are under way with the Tigers.

“We’ve probably been talking for around six weeks or so now and I would expect that somewhere in the next few weeks we might have a positive outcome to those negotiations,” Young told ********************.au.

“Reece has settled in very well at Richmond and into the AFL, as some good judges expected that he would.

“He showed enormous promise with Perth in the WAFL at league level last year as a young player and now Richmond is getting some benefit from his all-round talents.

“Reece is extremely comfortable with Richmond and the transition from his home town in Perth to Melbourne and he wants to be part of what is an emerging Richmond team in the coming seasons.”

Young would not disclose just how long Conca might commit to the Tigers beyond next season, but it is understood to possibly be until at least the end of 2014.

Conca has played all 12 games so far into his debut season, predominantly as an attacking half-back and is considered a crucial factor in the young Tigers drive back into finals either this season or into the near future.

He has gathered around 18 possessions a game and won a prestigious NAB Rising Star nomination for Round 9 when he had 23 disposals in the Tigers thrilling win over Essendon in the Dreamtime MCG clash in front of almost 84,000 fans.

He sits alongside brilliant young midfielders Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin and exciting scoring force Jack Riewoldt as bright young rising stars and heads into a crucial showdown with Melbourne at the MCG in Round 14 to stay in touch with a possible finals berth this season.

The Tigers sit 10th on the AFL ladder with five wins and a draw, just behind the Demons on the same points but with a slightly better percentage.

Depending on other Round 14 results, the winner of the Tigers shootout with the Demons could jump as high as seventh, if Essendon lost to Hawthorn on Friday night and an injury savaged Fremantle went down at home to Brisbane.

Another great sign! :thumbsu:

One good common trend here...all our young guns want to stay together and they truly believe we are going to be a power house. :D:thumbsu:

Great to see the commitment.

It's great to see, and the momentum continues. Definately puts a smile on my dile.:D
