Collingwood are well within their right to ask the question, as its a pretty valid question. But to ship him out when he has 5 years to go on a contract is shocking.
Wasn't his partner playing for Collingwood's netball team? Further clouds this situation.

Bombers to get first round compo for Daniher, who has supposedly been offered 700k per year at Brisbane.

Have I been watching a different player? This is all fabricated to get the Bombers a second top 10 pick, is it not?

WTF? Why would anyone pay 700K for Joe Daniher!?

Hey Brissie, need a speedy small forward? Wanna take Petch off our hands?

Childhood trauma never goes away, It's always in the back of your mind waiting. I had a mother who suffered from alcoholism and depression, despite making a reasonable fist of things and providing a stable environment for my kids to grow up in, small things like your post bring it all back.
Keep on keeping on.
Cheers mate. You too. It makes me want to be stronger for my kids. At least we know what not to do.
Your subconscious mind is the danger. Just when you think you are getting better, it creeps in.

TBH it's fair compensation and if left to the draft daniher would have gone pick 1 in his draft year before free agency and bidding rules changed.

If they can get Daniher back to his best, 700k is a bargain. Big if though.

Ain’t going to happen.

Daniher has been injury prone his entire career and I just can’t see that changing.

Also for a team that has accuracy issues in front of goals, I would have thought Daniher would just make the problem worse.

Also have the feeing ( based on nothing more than my instincts) that big Big Joe doesn’t like the hard yards and isn’t the most dedicated player going around.

I think it’s a woeful move by Brisbane.
Has shades of the Fevola trade and has the potential to go totally **** up.

Nothing against the guy personally and I hope it works out for him....... I just can’t see it happening.

I concur. I hope daniher lives up to his potential because it's a good spectacle for the game, but i have no idea why Brisbane would go there.

Barely gets on the park and can't kick a goal unless its 60m out.

They obviously lack a big forward and Daniher fits the bill if they can get him right.
He doesn't have anything like the baggage Fev had.

Apart from the money, hasn't cost them any picks.

I think it was a good move by Brissy.

Accuracy problems, application problems, mobility problems and defensive pressure from their talls problems.

I think Brisbane are making a big mistake, but **** em

I wasn’t implying that Joe had any baggage like Fev rather it’s a hell of a commitment.
If rumours are anything to go by it’s a four year deal on big coin.
That’s a hell of a punt on an injury prone player.

High reward and high risk IMO.

Put it this way, I would not be wanting our Club to be similarly rolling the dice 🎲 in this fashion.

Tigers game- big forwards role is to bring the ball to the ground.

Charlie Cameron likes this.

Could be on the money. I don't feel like Hipwood and Daniher are selfless enough to play that role though. Also Riewoldt has historically offered more than just an aerial decoy.

But how many talls do you need to do that? Presumably spells the end of McStay and I guess Mcinerney becomes a full time ruckman.

What still hasn't been revealed through all this is why he wants to leave the bombers so badly. Him leaving is the same as Sumich or Kennedy having a son, who came to our team and tore it up, only to get injured and piss off.

I could understand if he genuinely thought Syndey was a better team for him, but he seems to have dropped them quick smart for a different one this year. Makes it look like he wants out ASAP.

NRL won't play the national anthem before the state of origin games after representatives from the teams voted to scrap it...

Possible for two reasons as an outsider looking in

1) Essendon is a basket case and has been for years. Even without the whole supplement saga, they haven't won a final since 2004. With the way their list is progressing, that doesn't look like changing any time soon.

Which leads to

2) Wants the chance to win a flag before he retires. Daniher is 27 next year, clock is ticking on his career and Brisbane gives him a better chance of winning a flag before he retires than Essendon will.

Agree Rowan18 and I believe there are more than one sub plots to this whole story, that are underlying this move.

Something has been seriously amiss at Essendon for some time now.

They remind me a little of us post the 2006 drug culture fiasco, that we endured.
When other issues became a priority over winning games of football.
As we know it took us a while to shake that off and get our mojo back.

Ahh yes but the beauty about us in that instance as that I think we were honest with ourselves in the aftermath. Looking at the way Essendon were throwing all and sundry under the bus to protect a certain personality at the time I assume out a few noses out of joint in the playing group.
And since then I don't think they have shown themselves to be realistic (Wooshas comments back this up) that they believe they are a large team with a rich history ergo things will just click.

Wasn't the rumour last year that he's very annoyed at how they've mismanaged his injuries

So, and I might be reading this wrong, clubs on the east coast are being encouraged to have standalone teams - as there is no license fee that hits their soft-cap. Whilst we have a significant fee (that would be included in our soft-cap).

Surely - as the AFL are clearly subsidizing this new league - they now have to remove any license fee for a standalone or alliance team from the AFL soft-cap? (as they have engineered it so that there isn't one for 75% of the competition - it would be pretty unfair for the SA and WA teams if we had to include our affiliation fee).
