Yeah and you better believe it is some of the grimmest shit the football club has ever been attached to by association…

RoB's my new hero! Interesting that he's also listened to Tim Minchin who I had thought was much more of a lefty. But good on RoB for listening to both sides!

I hadn't heard of Antic until just then - you are doing more to promote him than ROB! But I just listened as I thought the controversy was the mobile phone 'mare' with NicNat - but nothing I heard sounded bad so perhaps just leave the politics out of footy 🤷‍♂️

Did he deserve another contract? look yeah he did based on finally pulling his finger out after 4 years of his malaise crap, was there standout viable alternatives out there? probably not but that doesn’t mean he should be using that to extort an extra year from the club, did he deserve 3-years? hell-to-the-f**k-no.

He literally deserved 1 with a minimum games trigger to trigger the 2nd year just solely as penance for what he served up prior to this season while on decent coin.

And don’t buy into this McAndrew is a ‘viable’ option to replace him nonsense, now that ROB has signed for 3 years the match-committee will feel even more pressure to keep selecting him even when his form does drop off because they know he’s there until 2028 and don’t want to be wasting that salary in the SANFL.

Must say I’m surprised he didn’t go on Alex Antic’s podcast again to announce it, maybe his mate Jordan Peterson will repost the announcement on his socials… maybe the club is giving him the extra years hoping to postpone a Warren Tredrea type situation on his socials post-retirement.
Oof, I didn't realise that ROB leaned into any of that stuff. To say that's really bad would be putting it mildly.

I'm excited by this purely by the fact it gives us a higher chance of Draper not being signed...and maybe keeping salary cap clear for a better signing (please sweet baby Jesus be NWM)
This is my thought too. Plus I firmly believe you don't need a gun ruckman to win a flag. Most premierships in the last 15 years have been won by a team with a fairly average ruckman at best.

Well done ROB, played the club like a fiddle.

Obviously knew with their history of giving Smith and Laird multi-year deals until past the age of 33 he’d get one too if his manager stuck to his guns.

We’re in contention, we were always going to buckle over an extra year. Let’s hope that winning finals provides the motivation to not phone in his performances.

Was reported originally that the two year deal we offered wasn’t on a whole lot of money, IIRC?

If it’s the same lower amount of money but just an extra year added, it’s a pretty decent result

Went you don’t develop any ruck for 5 years you end up having to give ROB what he wants. We should look at drafting a ruck this year
This is not the year to be drafting an 18 year old ruckman IMO, this draft is very thin on Rucks and talls.

I've been a ROB knocker for a while now.
For the past couple of years he's been like a Frankenstein with vertigo.
Marked improvement this season which is pleasing. We are allowed to be fickle given its a contract year for him, but hey, he's performing at the required level, let's see how he goes.
I know he is a workhorse, but I'd really want us to look at managing his games a bit better, and would hope we can commit to playing McAndrew for 3-4 games next season to give ROB a rest but also to assess how McAndrew manages at the level.

Overall, 3 years isn't a disaster, provided (as a few have said) we actively plan for his successor over the next 1-2 seasons. I'd prefer 3 from Rob than any of Draper now (Injury and ROB surge have changed my tune).

OK, I really don't get it. I mean I don't know much of Antic outside of him being a senator ( which given the quality of our Senate, probably isn't a great start) but all I heard was a guy saying he is open to different philosophies, on different sides of the political spectrum to inspire him to make his mind up.

I'm pretty sure that is the point of a democracy.

There is a reasonable chance that the AFL does away with the centre bounce before the end of ROB'S contract. Does that hurt or help him?
ROB clearly doesn't like the centre bounce where the opposite Ruckman runs at him. He much prefers stoppages where he can wrestle the other Ruckman instead.

He seems like a thoughtful, and quite caring guy.

Antic is a campaigner.

Open to alternate right wing populist and toxic "manosphere" philosophies, but closed to more mainstream centrist philosophies doesn't necessarily equal "open minded" but it certainly is allowed in a democracy.

I couldn't imagine wanting to speak with a politician on any topic for any reason

Stott Despoja was in my circle of friends for a long while, was always interesting to talk politics with. It was good to hear a different side being reasoned in a debate/argument, you learn more that way than being in an echo chamber.
