I couldn't imagine wanting to speak with a politician on any topic for any reason
Having dealt with many politicians of different persuasions over the years, the key theme I find is that they are largely individuals who are passionate enough about making a difference that they are willing to dedicate their working life to doing that. The hours they put in are extreme, often doing the things that are not seen (advocating for people with Centrelink/NDIS/DVA etc, meeting with members of public over all sorts of issues, attending a myriad of community functions etc.). People see the parliamentary side of things, but this in reality is just a formality and a very small % of the job. Along with losing most of their private life and family time.

Yes, there is the ego side of things, the pursuit of power etc, and yes some of the views can be questionable, but at least they are willing to pursue them.

They tend to be fascinating people if you can get them in a casual discussion without the protective spin.

Have Melbourne got any others on their list?

Gawn looked like he's getting pretty close to the end against us a few weeks back

He is 33. But the AFL let him down too. There was a time when he was smashing the opposition a few clubs took it upon themselves to snipe him at every opportunity. Port were one of those clubs where every contest and after every contest or goal they would all run to him and hip and shoulder him. As a player, how brain dead of a dumbshit do you have to be to do it. SPP was one of them so that really answered my question there.

At least we know ROB will have a big 2028
Personally, I'm happy he is staying. I am not his greatest fan by a long way, but his improvement in the second half of this season is a big part of our success so far. He is no Gawn or Grundy, but he is an honest toiler. His H/O to advantage is the best in the AFL.

I suspect the key to keeping him was giving him a third year rather than a higher rate. Still need to develop someone under him to keep the pressure on

Interesting hearing him on SEN today, he was quite worried about the crows going after Draper.
Wonder if that’s made him pull his finger out this year.
Hopefully it's been a cunning plan by the club.

Feel much better we actually appear to have a capable backup to put pressure on. Would actually like us to try McAndrew before the end of the season.

It won't happen unless there is an injury. ROB is V/c after all.
Would be smart injury management against a lesser team. What if ROB wasn’t available for a final & we need to debut a ruckman.

ROB is obviously a mediocre player that will be remembered as a bit of a spud

But if the only realistic option to replace him is an even worse player, who we have to pay even more money to, on an even longer contract AND said player has copped a long term injury...

I mean sure ideally he'd get a one year contract. But offering one year is the same as offering zero. He leaves and we're stuck with Draper.

So based on all that it's one of those situations where you just have to accept we're going to get a bit ****ed over
If being a spud means winning a B&F and being regarded amongst the top 10ish rucks in the league, then there aren’t many good rucks going around…

Gawn, Grundy, Cameron, Meek and Xerri are the top 5 this season, but you could easily lay claim to ROB coming in next. He’s also kept all 5 to their worst games of the season.

All eyes on O’Brien . Can he keep the form? In the past he’s dropped off once contract is signed . If he plays how he has been for the last 6 weeks then we would all be happy

On the actual signing, absolutely no issues with it - I think Draper will be cooked and would have bent us over. We absolutely need an understudy to ROB though.

I'm in the camp of you don't need an elite ruckman to win a GF as well, just someone who can do a job.

So you've gota sitting mp... and a hugely successful afl player who's going to be a brain surgeon.... and somehow you think you're better than them?
Brain surgeon?
Hes studying biomedical science. Hes about 12 years of study from getting anywhere near brain surgery.
