Good deal. A lot of rucks don't hit their best until after 30 - he turns 30 in a few weeks. He could be another Mumford type who still has some improvement left in him.

No harm in offering him that third year as long as we have someone under him who could potentially push him into the twos by then anyway. That'll keep him honest.

Yeah and you better believe it is some of the grimmest shit the football club has ever been attached to by association…

You don’t have to agree with someone to respect their conviction. Antic represents views that are held by millions across Australia but are often shut down by media or political elites. What concerns me more than Antic’s critics is how incapable some people seem of forming their own critical thoughts. They’re all too happy to go along with the narrative, to nod along with whatever today’s headlines tell them is morally correct, without ever asking who’s really writing the script, or why.

Meanwhile, the country is drifting. It’s unrecognisable from the Australia we grew up in: spiralling cost of living, fractured cultural identity, basic freedoms being traded for political correctness, and a public too worn down or distracted to care. If there was ever a time to stop parroting slogans and start thinking for ourselves again, it’s now.

Look it's definitely off topic in this thread but I just need to point on this trope that so many people refer to - (and not just Australia, it'll be a common theme everywhere in the world)

Has there ever been a generation that hasn't looked back and seen society unrecognisable from when they grew up ? The childhood that you grew up in would have been unrecognisable to your grandparents, and the same for them, etc etc and so forth and so forth

It's always going to change - it'll always be unrecognisable from childhood through the older life

If his views truly represented millions the closest avatar of his views wouldn't have got utterly trounced by the biggest margin in Australian electoral history.

Also if it's time to stop parroting slogans you might want to tell Antic, who's podcast title is literally a parroted slogan from the American right-wing...He even parrots it in the clip with ROB...

Antic is a political elite. He’s one of the most powerful people in one of the major political parties in SA. He’s a federal senator. He used to be a lawyer. His dad was a doctor, Director of Thoracic medicine at the RAH.

How much more elite can you get?

General view is players play their best footy in Contract Years ....hard to dispute

Hopefully ROB is a late bloomer ....he's had a great year ...is the hardest Ruck to beat (negator) in the AFL ....credit, as I've never been a fan of ROB's

Late bloomer? Was our best and fairest in 2020. He hit the ground running after taking over from Sauce. There’s nothing late bloomerish about him. His desire to perform at peak levels isn’t natural, it’s dependant upon external factors.

Prefer this over an expensive Draper coming off an achillies.

Draper just doesn’t feel like he’d fit in at the crows, comes off as a flog

ROB getting an extra year doesn’t mean we’re not still actively chasing Draper. All that it means is that we’re prepared to burn a year to secure the 2 that we originally wanted him for. It’s not complicated.

Yikes! That looks like one of them life size dollies ..... or so a friend tells me 😬

I would have thought giving ROB 3 years is a pretty fair signal that the Crows are not intent on chasing Draper. Can't see us paying the salary required to play Draper forward personally even if he chops out in ruck. No way he replaces Tex if Tex is done, in fact I can see him being a hindrance to Thilthorpe and Fog.., no way does he have the game awareness and anything like the skill levels of the Texan.

Was reported originally that the two year deal we offered wasn’t on a whole lot of money, IIRC?

If it’s the same lower amount of money but just an extra year added, it’s a pretty decent result

There was no talk about the size of the $, only that he wanted more than the 2 years on offer. He was clearly still going to be the first ruck for most of those 2 years, so he’d have been offered around the $800k mark.

I vaguely remember a journo (think it was either Twomey or Morris) who said he was getting offered less money than he would’ve liked

Honestly I think this means Tex goes on for one more year

No real immediate pathway to a decent value 3rd tall replacement (unless we trade up for Marsh)

Draper sucks, so glad that's off the table.

Definitely feel like 3 years is too long - hope it doesn't bite us on the arse; like Smith, like Sloane, etc.

If ROBS form of the last 6 weeks was his average, you wouldn't question this at all. But he's mediocre for years, good for weeks.

Let's hope recent form is his new benchmark.

Why do you think that adding 2028 to ROB’s contract has any meaning to what we’d planned for 2026 and 2027? It’s 1 extra year for ROB, it’s totally meaningless to short and longer term list management strategy.

Could always give Luke Nankervis a decent crack at AFL level in that role?

Charlie Edwards played some pretty impressive footy up forward for the Sandringham Dragons before the Nationals before moving into the midfield when Ashcroft etc were away.

Both are AFL footballers IMO just need to be given the opportunities they deserve.

So you’re saying that contracting ROB for an extra year in 2028 means that the plans we had to have both Draper and ROB in 2026 and 2027 are now defunct? So 2028 ROB deletes our desire for Draper in 2026 and 2027? You can’t be that stupid.
