I'm just watching the 2017 Prelim against Geelong ......that 1st half, the two most influential mids, most definitely .....Brad Crouch & Riley Knight

With Knight, it wasn't the stats ...but he was on the bottom of every pack, applying unbelievable pressure .....gee we missed these two guys ...both aggressive & apply lots of tackling pressure

Was that the game when Brad got into Duckwood over the boundary line for dogging his brother?

I loved that moment!

Not quite sure I get the love for Knight. Hasn’t been able to put it together and isn’t young anymore.
His form over the past two years has been ordinary and he lacks weapons for me to want to pick him over other more talented players, especially after this draft.

Actually. I disagree with that, his numbers are fine for the position he plays. Just the expectation is completely wrong seeing there needs to be a move to seeing small to mid sized forwards as a primarily defensive position, not offensive.

Defensively (and a mid/small half forward flank is a defense first position) you're talking about someone who is 4 tackles (with 1 inside 50), 1.4 1%, and 1.1 intercepts. That puts Knight as our best defensive small this season.

Offensively it's 15 disposals, 0.9 goals per game, 0.4 goal assists, 4.25 score assists. Worst for pure scoring, but beats out Murphy in everything else, and beats out Gallucci in score assists.

So statistically this season, it's more then fine. You get that offense up a bit more (get to 1.2+ goals per game, 5+ score assists), and get the tackle numbers above 4.5, and you're looking at one of the better small to mid sized forwards in the league. Both are quite likely done just through Knight having a full season on the park.

Bit late to the convo here but agree with most. Needs to get body right. Hes a great gut runner when fit.

I like him as a half forward taking Douglas' spot with the ability to tag.

If he gets it all together Im hoping he contributes like a Shane Edwards/Douglas type ability.

Danger year for Riley. We now have Gooch & Jones vying for that defensive forward/Mid role that Riley comes into the side for.

With the little guys like Stengle, McHenry pushing for a small role next to Eddie with Tex, Lynch, JJ, Fogarty and possible McAdam/Davis going for marking forward roles, it's a tight squeeze up forward. I expect that we'll also have Greenwood and others floating up forward as well at time.

Big year for Knighta if he is to remain at AFC and in the AFL.

If Riley Knight plays more SANFL than AFL this year firstly I'll be shocked and it it could only mean we are flying in winning games because his special talent "applied" pressure and hardness at the contest and man is something we need to see more of on a regular basis. He's also one of the few players we have with a genuine touch of mongrel in his game.

I just wish to see Knight play out a full preseason and a full main season. Has that ever happened to Knight before?

To me, Knight deserves to be a regular 22 when fully fit. He is a versatile kind of player where he can be more attacking, or when needed, can see him become a very good defensive stopper/tagger.

Just needs a relatively injury free year, as we are a far better team with his pressure & mongrel... but if he can't get on the park for most games, he is likely to be surpassed by others we have recently recruited.
