In the sun today Rocca came out and said he wouldnt mind playing in the NFL! He says that he would leave after his AFL career is over but i wouldnt be suprised if he left at teh cessation of his contract. Scary stuff and i am very dissapointed that he would turn his back on the pies

Let Rocca do whatever he wants to do after his AFL career is over in about 4 years time. Rocca wouldn't turn his back on the mighty magpies either.

Can't see him leaving before his AFL career is over. Surely Ed would make sure of that.

yeah i realised that but something tells me an NFL club isnt going to pay millions of dollars for Rocca in four years time! He has allready snapped his achilles and i think that if he is going to move it will be within 2 years or else he will be to old

You don't know much on NFL obviously. Punters can play till they are 40 if they want. It isn't very demanding, at most 7-8 punts a game and that will mean if he does retire at the age of 33 34 from AFL he will have plenty of time to play at an NFL team.

Darren Bennet is 41, he just re-signed with the Vikings

Ben Graham was 33 when he got picked up and was, the oldest rookie in the NFL ever. Rookies (1st year players, not the kind of rookies in AFL) are given a base contract of under $500k, still nice though.
Some of you people dont understand that punters have about 5 minutes game time in a game and very rarely get tackled. They are rarely injured.
Also alot of people mix the terms punter and kicker. While it seems the same term, they are two completely different positions. The punter gets the ball and kicks it down field with the goal to make sure the opposition get the ball a further away from their scoring end as possible, the actual kick or punt is done just like a regular AFL kick. The kicker kicks the field goal and the point after touchdown by kicking the ball when it is placed down by a teammate, kind of like rugby.

You are pretty close I think. Rocca is 28 ? I believe , in another 3 odd years I would think he would be thinking seriously about going.
He could quiet possibly cut his AFL career a bit short to give him self every opportunity at an NFL career. a la Ben Graham

I wouldnt mind playing in the English Premier League either that does not mean i will!!!

2 good points ...

1) Rocca wants to go after his AFL career is over (he says 'after' because he really cannot say "i want to go now and try out" - when he is still contracted to the club ...

2) Ben Graham said he'd go after his AFL career was over, funny thing is once they leave for America they're AFL career is over - over doesn't mean they havn't got anything left to offer - it just refers to the time they call it a day, and if Rocca seriously wants to have a crack it'll be bubye Rocca as soon as his contract expires!!!

Ben Graham was always flakey though. This is a guy who handed back the captaincy. Rocca is not of similar character.

Besides, Rocca is 4 years younger than Graham, so if he plays until he's 33, we'd all be pretty happy with that.

If he does not fire in next 2 years get rid of him or trade IMO.

You don't think his last 4 years (excluding injuries) have been good?

You must have been watching different games to me

2002 nearly won us the flag
2003 very good all year
2004 when not injured was in our best
2005 on fire until injured

Handing back the captaincy when ur not suited to the job does not denote a "flakey" character ffs ...

Garry Hocking handed it back in 1995 - he then went on to serve Geelong for a further 6 seasons winning a number of B&Fs

Shane Crawford handed it back and played the best football we've seen from Crawf since his brownlow season of 1999 - the fact he gave up the captaincy does not mean ********** - u can bag Ben Graham for his lacklustre form, however i will not tolerate a hit at his character!

I think his character can't be questioned, but you would have to agree Graham was never the crash and bash forward Rocca is. Also Graham is a lot fitter than Rocca, so while Graham could of still gone on for one or two more years Rocca will probably be buggered by then anyway.
