Interesting to hear Rock on the wireless this morning saying that our list needs midfield speed - someone to break the lines - and that we have good talls. That must bring Lovett into the mix.

Would much prefer Prismall, but it doesn't seem like we are in the hunt for him that much. Hope I am proven wrong. I wouldn't mind Lovett, but then we would be left a bit small as far as midfielders go. We'd have Lovett, LT, Campbell, Harvey, Wells, Rawlings... all very light midfielders. Might be a concern if Harris does go.

In an ideal trade week, we would trade Harris for a 2nd rounder (coll?), and then trade a 3rd rounder to Geelong for Prismall. Can't see it happening though.

Wellsy, LT, Matty Campbell, Ben Ross, Boomer... I think we have some speed right there. Just need the younger ones to develop their clearance work, which I have every confidence they will be able to do. Lindsay in particular will have a break out season. Last year he was terrific as a pinch hitter in the centre square. This year he honed his goal kicking. Next year he puts it all together.

I think someone should show Rock our clearance stats from 2008. Never mind breaking the lines, get the ball first.

I must admit I wasn't overly excited about his appointment, but heard him on SEN last night and he was really impressive. Showed good knowledge of our list already, when talking about the midfield - I think the question that was asked was "how is it going to be going from a midfield with the class of Dal Santo, Hayes, Harvey, onto what is (apart from Boomer) a bunch of goers?". As Moti mentioned he brought up Jesse Smith, Gav Urquhart and also seemed pretty confident in Ben Ross coming through. This is great i reckon, because it either means Laidley has spoken to Rock and told him that they want Gav and Jesse in the midfield this year, or Rock has recognised that these two are midfielders in waiting. Either way a win.

Funniliy enough the first name it brought up when mentioning the credentials of the midfield was Daniel Harris.

He was also asked about our capitulation in round 22 and the Sydney final. He said, and I was impressed as well, that "With North Melbourne, you've always known what you're gonna get..........a red hot contest for 120 minutes. I think that fell away in the Port game and led onto the Sydney game, and it's very unlike this club".

I thought it was refreshing to hear an "outsider's" (he has been away for awhile) perspective on our players and gamestyle.

We all know how competitive the little bloke was in the number 3 for us, and he brings with him a few years worth of experience with other clubs. I like the appointment!

Congrats Rocky!

I'd love to go to the footy, or tune into Foxtel, knowing that the boys were going to give it their all and the only way we can lose is on football ability, fitness, tactics, luck and umpiring.

Personally, I reckon our "reputation" is a bit annoying at times because it implies we're a crap team.

Let's get some speed in the draft and leave Lovett out of the equation. Tom Swift at 9 is looking like a tantalizing prospect now...

Is there any chance Harro may change his mind about wanting to leave now that there is a new midfield coach? (In saying this, I understand that Laidley is still there and he is the 'boss')

hopefully Rock has come in and said "there is no bloody way we should be letting this bloke go anywhere".
Harris' so-called shortcomings have been well documented in here, so they should be glaringly obvious to those that are in the coaching caper. they have tried to change his role, increase his endurance etc etc, why not build a midfield team around him? give him some help, play to his strengths. imo Harris' positives outweigh his negatives comfortably and just maybe Rock will think similarly.

It's true we do need some more pace in our midfield- but i'd think we'd get that through the draft.
However (and i'll probably get bagged a bit for this) if we are going to get a player from another club (ala a Davies type speculative pick) then rather than trade good picks for guys like Ray or Lovett, i'd actually be ok with us getting Kane Tenace.- again at a lateish pick- because he's nothing more than a talent that has been stifled by injuries.

He kid isn't THAT bad, and has some pace- which is better than guys llike Lovett, and his disposal isn't bad. He's also quite a bulky midfielder- and wouldn't be that horrible (of course this is 4-5th rounder we're talking.) as a depth player- who's more consistant than Sansbury- and has even managed to sometimes break into the Cats midfield.

Prismall is not quick.

Apparently, he has nominated Essendon as his preferred destination. Initially, a straight swap of Prismall and Lovett was expected but Geelong don't have much room in their salary cap.

Shannon Byrnes is on the trade table ... the only thing that spud has going for him is pace. I'd be getting worried now.

Tenace is an average kick.
