Marks inside 50 is an interesting one. Maybe indicating our forwardline functioned ok. Those marks were mainly about 40m out though.

Probably shows what a good job Clarke & that other guy that 'kez likes did between them (wasn't brave enough to spell his name incorrectly). :p

Unlucky last night. I thought Karnezis and Zorko should have got a few goals though last night. Next week's bye is much needed to recover from injuries. Hopefully the Lions will regroup, after the bye, with their best players (minus Brownie) and hit Fremantle hard. Our goal accuracy will need some attention and improvement. We also need some of the game play that was shown in the West Coast and Essendon game. Can't wait for Leuenberger to come back though. If we want to beat Fremantle, we need a full strength team playing at their top level. We will probably be more refreshed than Fremantle, however both teams have a high and costly injury list ,which hopefully our bye should help us recover.
And Merrett.
And Rich.
And Leuey.
But apart from those 4, yeah, we should have all our best players back.:p

Swans def Bombers by 44. Bombers are supposed to be a hell of a lot better than us, as are Collingwood, does this give some perspective as to where we are at, even with the team that hit the ground last night?

I wouldn't mind all the losses as long as we competed. The effort is comparable to the Demons and surely the Lions can't be as bad a rabble as the Demons atm. Even the Suns are showing more bite in their game vs the Cats tonight.

It's the lack of effort that is frustrating.

Make as many mistakes as you want as long as you show the fight and desire. If there's no fire then there is absolutely no excuse.

IMO he looked best as a leading forward last night (Has great hands). Get him to add another 5kg over preseason and play him deep forward I say. Why make a skillful leading forward into a speculative midfielder... nothing wrong with a highly talented number two key forward.

They tried that last year. It was more of a failure than him as a midfielder IIRC. Absolutely no impact, lost his speed and agility which is what his skills depend on.

Numbers don't lie for woeful Brisbane Lions
2 June 2013
Greg Davis

THEY are the numbers that will give Brisbane coach Michael Voss sleepness nights for the next two weeks. The Magpies still managed to out-tackle the home side 67-61, which is an indictment on Brisbane's for its shocking lack of pressure. The Lions' poor workrate was highlighted by Collingwood recording 174 handball receives to Brisbane's 81.

The home side was entitled to be outclassed by Collingwood, but to be out-worked is unforgivable. Being hit by injuries and suspensions was no excuse for Brisbane.Collingwood was missing a host of its first-choice stars but the effort levels remained high as the Magpies won the clearances (40-31), contested possessions (143-122), inside 50 entries (64-43) and hit-outs (51-27).Voss said the bye week would be no time for rest, especially after such an "unacceptable" display. "We'll go about our normal protocols. It's a normal week for us. We are in the midst of the season and there's still a fair bit to work on," he said.

Brisbane may get midfielders Tom Rockliff and Daniel Rich back from injury for the road trip to WA but Brown and Merrett will still be serving suspensions while Matthew Leuenberger will be sidelined for at least another month with his thumb injury. The Lions will monitor an abdominal injury sustained by Brent Moloney, which abruptly ended the midfielder's night against the Pies.

Yeah I think we need at least one of those 2 guys in to help zorko down there... Zorko must have been buggered He didn't stop chasing all night

totally agree...I still surprises me how we dont start using more pressure forwards and especially now we have 3-4. I think next game it is time to try something different...

F Banfield, ???, Green
HF Zorko, Karnezis, Bewick

Reasoning
1) when we only hard Banfield as the pressure forward we pretty much ran him into the ground and out of form, and I see us doing the same to green and to a lessor extent Zorko. Good teams get multiple players pressuring the ball carrier...we need to develop a small group of pesky pressure players
2) I don't think you will see the best pressure work from any of these in the ressies as the game style is so different. for Instance, AFL players generally try and run and carry a bit allowing time for pressure forwards to do their work if up too it...where the Ressie league players then to dispose of the ball alot quicker. we currently give teams too much time on the Ball in AFL
3) Karnezis looked like Rubbish trying to play out of position as a midfielder, decision making in when to go to the contest and when not too resulting in poor pressure, and also burning up with the workload. Mentally he looked defeated quite early in the match...BUT!!!!! Late when he pushed forward he got a 2nd life and had a real zip about him, with early smart leads for the ball, and good marking. We need to play him as a leading target...period!!!
4) Zorko...let him do what he does best.
5) FF????? Obviously Brown when he comes back. Staker? or give Lisle a go? Or Play Bewick and push Redden to HF?

Regarding the lousy first quarters - Could the poor starts be attributed to the fact that the team keeps changing every week (some forced some not). Players are losing confidence in each other as well as themselves as a result and this reflects in the poor starts.

I'd like to see Banfield get another run unless the ressies watchers can tell me a decent reason why he shouldn't.

Outworked? I'm not sure about that. We lost the contested ball because they were stronger and better inside, not because we were lazy. And we missed tackles for the same reason- they were stronger than us and shrugged them off. And I50's, we lost them because they had far superior ball movement. We were certainly disorganised and the defensive running and guarding of space was pretty awful, but I didn't get the impression that our endeavour was poor.

The pies were often pressing multiple players to the contest...that is how we were out worked

McGrath is amongst our best forwards. Better than green or Banfield. At least as good as Bewick. Redden is very good... But necessary in the midfield

McGrath has stunk it up all year, but he is a lot better up fwd as he showed on the weekend

IMO playing out of position in defence. Is a forward. Interestingly, Rockliff plays okay in defence.

Who is fit again for after bye?

Rich?
Rockliff?
Maguire??
Anyone good?

Otherwise...
Out: Michael, Raines, Yeo
In: Mayes, Banfield, ?dunno maybe Green? Or leave Michael in

Just in rotations he's occasionally been found there... Also sometimes when we flood back. Reads play well so not hard to lead out against... Rarely outmarked.
