ESSENDON BOMBERS

Just when I thought Daniher leaving was enough heartbreak, he goes on to boot 6 against us.
We started about as well as we could have hoped for in a second consecutive interstate game coming off what seems like the 18th consecutive 5 or 6 day break, but ran out of legs in the third.
Andrew McGrath had arguably the best game of his career in a shutdown role on Charlie Cameron, who he kept goalless with basically no influence on the game whatsoever.
We scrapped hard as much as we could but the dam wall was always going to burst eventually, and so it did.
We have avoided getting blown away all season but this was the straw that broke the camel's back, and we seemingly let in goal after goal, consigning ourselves to our first heavy defeat of the season.
Ben Hobbs put on a really great performance and will only get better the more he plays in the seniors. Well rewarded with a 2-year extension during the week.
The lack of Darcy Parish wasn't really felt, with Merrett, Shiel, Caldwell, and Setterfield combining well in the guts.
Shame that Setters copped a stomp to the foot, really.

BRISBANE LIONS 12.15 87
def.
ESSENDON BOMBERS 6.9 45

BEST:
Redman, McGrath, Merrett, Langford, Hobbs
GOALS: Langford 2, Stringer, Perkins, Menzie, McDonald-Tipungwuti

RICHMOND TIGERS

Of course these pricks would play themselves into form when they play bloody Geelong.
Whilst the Cats were missing some serious talent, this was a vintage Richmond performance. They had the ascendency from the very first bounce, and it didn't look like they were going to give it up post then.
The old guard took it up to the old Cats, with Dustin Martin, Jack "Shermanator" Riewoldt, and Trent Cotchin (who looks like the eraser at the end of a pencil) combining for nine majors.
The Tigers were ruthless on the outside ball, and mounted on the pressure to force the Cats to scrub and hook their kicks.
Taranto finished up with 28 touches (13 of which were contested) and 12 touches, whilst Jayden Short punted the ball forward 714 metres from 26 touches.
Prestia is going to be a problem for us tonight.

RICHMOND TIGERS 16.6 102
def.
GEELONG CATS 11.12 78

BEST: Short, Rioli, Taranto, Balta, Martin, Baker
GOALS: Martin 4, Cotchin 3, Mansell, Riewoldt 2, Graham, Rioli, Prestia, Bolton, Clarke

It's been 9 years since we last beat Richmond, and the time for that to change is now. I'm not convinced that their win against a heavily undermanned Geelong last week was the return of the Richmond we all know, and it's about time we finally put them down.

******* super effort mate - well worth the wait!

0% chance of winning this game. Richmond must bank these 4 points every year when they look at calendar

Bolton and Martin getting off the leash are my biggest worries. I’m expecting us to be in it at 3 qtr time.

Shiel out. We just can't field a team. Not quite WCE but it is close.

Tough to be competitive when you are missing 2 of your first 4 midfielders, your first choice forward and 2 of your first choice backmen..

That is with the missing trio of young talls who were meant to be our spine.

Oh well.. hopefully we can play through and at least put up a good show.
