need some advice on a couple of trades i'm considering...

1) Wonamearri > Valenti and Palmer > Ablett (Expensive but gives me the bartel/ablett combo i wanted so badly and leaves me with Hayes, Cross, Kornes and Stevens also)

2) Tippet > Valenti and Dew > Chapman (Possibly the 'smarter' of the 2 trades but i just need to get ablett in asap)

Advice anyone?

Bartel, Hayes, Cross, Kornes, Stevens, Palmer (Wona, Browne)

Any consensus on who to keep out of Houli and Wonaemirri? They're both benched in a solid and reliable midfield and haven't seen a game, trading one out for Cotchin to raise some money.

If they are both cashies, I'd be tempted to cash out both. Wona is more likely to lose value of the two though I would say. Houli could be maxxed, but is more likely to crack a ton IMO. Maybe one down one up...if you haven't finalised your midfield yet?

Well either of those trades are good. I have the same midfield as you except i have dal santo instead of cross. Palmer is in good form and while ablett will outscore him there is no rush to upgrade him, Dew is out for a few weeks i believe as you would know and chappy will rise. Maybe do palmer to ablett in 3 weeks and save 100k?(Palmer rising 50 and ablet dropping 50)...but that could also cost you a fair few points. Personally i think upgrade dew first.

Midfield is pretty solid (Judd/Stevens/Foley/King/Ling/Shaw) and I'm running low on trades. Houlaeamiri and Proud out, Cotchin and Cornes in, then I'm saving the rest for later.

Was thinking of downgrading Palmer to Cotchin to sit on the bench, or should I downgrade Stevens and play Palmer on the field?

I too have Palmer and Stevens and if I were to downgrade one it would be Palmer. Mainly because he's a first year player and could be rested later on in the season, and Stevens is averaging slightly higher.

I would look at Bateman.. He had scored over 130+ in 4 games this year and has a break even of only 15 this week, He is back from his hand injury that wrecked his scores in the early rounds.. Might be worth a punt at $480k

p burgoyne has his upsides but he hasn't scored 100+ this year (maybe one off the top of my head) has he?
ladson is going good, especially in a winning side and is only this cheap due to some recent low scores but has been scoring quite a few hundreds.
it's a tough one, but i think i'd go with ladson...

Be careful re trading in Valenti. Grimes could be back soon from his LTI. Wona has played 7. I believe the minimum a player can be on LTI is 8. That means after 1 more week, if Grimes is fit, one of Wona and Valenti will probably be dropped. It would be unlucky, but with a straight choice between the 2, you would think Melbourne would keep Wona in the side.

Just a heads up for anyone looking at bringing Valenti in this week. There is risk. What I don't know, however, is the status on Grimes, and whether he is well enough to actually be removed from the LTI list...

Any Melbourne fans have any info on that one?

I would think that Melbourne might go down the path of a few cellar dwellers of recent years and send a few key players off for surgery early to prepare for next year. If this is the case, Valenti may yet play a few more games later on in the season. I don't know the rookie rules, but I presume even if he goes off the list for Grimes, he can go back on for another further down the track.

Just a thought.

Looks like a bit of a risk to bring him in and rely on another injury/melbourne to put their own players out, but good luck to any willing to try!!
