Reid, Hewett, Ginbey, Maric, Long, Chesser, potentially JWilliams, along with whoever we get int eh draft next year.
Im trying to think how he fits in more than just to end the year, but long term

You think he’s at ceiling when hes just ticked over 21 in Feb? Kid went from undrafted to clear mid-season No1 through tremendous work ethic, then got to club and shaved a further half a minute off his 2k. Kicked 4 for a rising star nod, injured soon after and now it’s trade?

I’ve engaged up to this point, but think I’m now done here. Seriously wtf could you be thinking with this?

Against Melbourne we had

• 7 defenders (Gov, TB, Rotham, Witho, Duggan, Cole, Hough)
• 6 forwards (Jake, JD, Maric, Cripps, Ryan, Jones) plus a forward/ruck (JWill)
• 7 mids (Kelly, Reid, Ginbey, Chesser, Hunt, Sheed, Edwards) plus a ruckman (BWill)

Dewar (a forward) was the sub

With Yeo coming in, it has to be a mid coming out so either Sheed or Edwards. Probably Edwards

The only other question then is do they keep Dewar as the sub or use Edwards given his greater flexibility

It’ll be unpopular but I suspect they’ll use Edwards as sub

So Yeo in for Dewar with Edwards as sub

Some poor Kent will have to be the travelling emergency after not playing last week due to the bye. Maybe Hall gets a chance to experience an away trip giving his wrist an extra week to heal

Hewett will be slow burn through WAFL post bye. Long out for season. Dewar fringe but improving, Culley also been used as Sub before due to his fwd ability.
Im not only talking about this year, Culley cant go anywhere until this year is over.
Next year how tf is Culley meant to get games?
Our first midfield is likely to be some combo of Yeo, Reid, Ginbey, Kelly, our 2025 1st pick, and Hewett taking up 4 spots in the team. Put our 2025 pick and Hewett as fwd/mid rotations and thats us full up.
Sheed and Petch will still be around too who can do a similar role
Could be a toss up as a switch for Maric also when fit and back to best, also with mid versatility and the fact our marking targets are growing with the emergence of J.Will and the fact Culley offers something different to the fwd mix.
Hes a worse marking target and a worse kick than Maric. We have Darling showing elite tackling/pressure right now, if it was pressure we wanted we would bring in more smalls.
Culley is 194cm, basically KPF height and hes not quick, so he wont take a spot off guys like Long, Cripps, Ryan.
He isnt pushing out Maric who will probably have to play further up the ground using his elite kick with Allen and Waterman being the main forwards.
Getting rid of a just 21yr old with plenty of nice AFL attributes because you can’t fit him in right now (not even close to knowing his ceiling) is utter madness
Its not about just getting rid of him for the sake of it, I just cant see how hes meant to fit into the team when we have better options in the midfield and the fwd lines.

We need to get rid of some young players, if we could get a Baker deal for example over the line by trading Culley then we shouldnt be against exploring it

id be happy to keep him, but he doesnt have a clear role in the team come next year or in 2 years time.
Same reason I brought up trading BW before

You are basing your entire argument around the fact Culley is at ceiling now though, so in turn you can’t fathom how he could possibly replace anyone. At 21. After showing huge improvement in a short space of time then being interrupted by injury.

If however you agree he isn’t at ceiling (I mean he so obviously isn’t) then why not have him beat the door down for a bit at WAFL level / as depth and actually earn us some trade value if that is your (grossly premature) end game for him already?

Imagine having someone who is having trouble impacting the game at all come on as an impact sub. Holy smokes!

I’m agnostic on Luke Edwards and if I was picking the team I’d probably have someone else in the 23

That said, the club appear to rate Edwards higher than most fans and keep picking him so he must be doing something right in their eyes. So whilst I can’t see a spot for him in the 22 on team balance I can see him being used as the sub

Im not assuming hes at his ceiling at all.
He has shown very little outside that 4 goal game, and lets be real hes not pushing out Allen, Waterman, Darling, a resting ruckman or Maric for a tall fwd spot. Darling is the only one over 26, and if he went out it would probably be for a resting mid like Hewett or another small rather than a tall.
Our midfield is stacked with significantly better prospects and elite older guys. Maybe he will be better than Ginbey, Hewett, Reid or our first pick next year who is likely to be a mid. I wouldnt bet on it.
Kelly is years away from retirement, and even if Yeo was to go out, Hewett is the first guy to come in, and we have older guys like Petch or Duggan who can fill a role in there.
Then you have to consider we are probably getting Baker, who will take either a HFF or HB spot, meaning 1 less spot in the fwd line or could free up Duggan to have the ability to play midfield in a situation where Yeo isnt playing.

I said im happy to hold him multiple times over my replies about this topic, but at the same time we need to be thinking about which young players we keep and which ones go.
Culley is out of contract, and we will probably struggle to find enough guys we are happy to delist.

Tend to agree it’s a possibility, do hope at least for this week off a big win which he barely participated in that he goes back to the 2’s though

I think our back 6 has been significantly better balanced since Rotham had come back.

Fritsch got him on a couple of occasions but let’s not pretend he’s a slouch either. He’s a very crafty forward.

So I think we keep our back 6 as is.

Dewar to go back and get a full game this week if Yeo is fit. Edwards to Sub.

Outside of rankine, the one we need to watch is Soligo, but I think he will be too quick for Sheed. So if he plays defensive this week I think it’s Dawson he runs with.

Reid will no doubt cop some attention this week. Big reason I am hopeful Yeo is back just to remind Adelaide we do have more than one threat in the middle these days.

Poor Tim Kelly, reduced to B Grade status

Culley is great overhead and has a very good kick, not sure if you've seen him play?
