When former Hawthorn-listed player Ollie Hanrahan put Werribee almost five goals up entering into time on in the last quarter last weekend, Box Hill's finals hopes were hanging by a thread. But a wonderful fight-back in the latter stages of the match saw Box Hill win by seven points to keep the fires of finals football burning.
The Hawks go into Sunday's game against the bottom-placed Bullants outside the eight on percentage, as it's a real logjam in the middle part of the ladder. Fourth down to eleventh on the VFL ladder are separated by a game only, with percentage crucial. The three teams ahead of Box Hill on the ladder (Werribee, Sydney and the Giants) all lost last time they played, so Box Hill will just have to keep taking their chances for premiership points as they present themselves.
For the Bullants, they have nothing to play for but pride. Mired at the foot of the ladder, the Bullants have only won one game all season (a shock 19 point win over Sydney in Sydney back in April) and they have suffered some heavy defeats at home, including a 110 point thumping at the hands of the Giants in early May. Having said that, the Bullants haven't let their heads drop and should not be an opponent the Hawks take lightly.
There are four games left in the season for Box Hill (the Hawks have a bye after the Bullants game), so every game will count for Box Hill from here to the end of the season if they're looking to play finals.
As usual, the game will be live-streamed on the AFL website, and 3WBC 94.1 FM will have radio broadcast from the venue. The Box Hill Hawks social media team will be tweeting out live score updates during the game.
Teams to come.
