Much as I would like to have a look at a young gun or two I think we're probably better off bringing in players who have a realistic chance of contributing in the finals. CurrenT vacancies to be filled from Dawson, Mzungu, Duffield, Duffy.

This thread is out of control.

NEWS FLASH : We can cover Fyfe, and it might actually be good for us.

We are playing a GWS outfit on the slide at home. We should be winning this match by 41 points. Yes even without Fyfe... and Ballantyne.

Here is why :
1. Dawson will come in and keep Cameron to 3 goals or under.
2. Our midfield is strong and goes deep into our playing list to newbies and established
2. Barlow will step up and have his best game of the year

To clarify
1. A.Pearce will stay back. - forget him a forward option yet. Too small framed and not tough enough one on one. We have many forwards but limited defenders. He is being groomed as a defender period. When he bulks up, yes maybe a transition to offence. This swing player thing generally means "a player that can fill holes", like a Silvagni.
2. Our midfield without Fyfe, should destroy GWS and if it does not, then we are not going far.
3. MzGuGu deserves a game ahead of anyone IMO as he consistently performs in the WAFL, and consistently does a role at AFL level.
4. An injury to the best player does not mean you bring in a new player to replace him - this is stupidity. When you are full strength and rotating players, that is when you bring in players, or by necessity. We are not needing players at the moment. We are missing major players in Fyfe, Ballas and MJ - 3 of our best 10.

For me in Dawson and GoogleMz

Duffy is injured and won't play for another week at best .
Dawson RTB's love child will play .Weller was traveling emergency last week and he will be Fyfes replacement IMHO.
Duffield will play if Clancee isn't right to go .He played mostly in the midfield for Peel last week and did quite well.
With Dawson coming into the team Taberner could be given a couple of weeks off and Alex may go forward depending on GWS line up of tall forwards.
We won't play 4 talls in the forward line
RTB wants to keep the team unchanged as much as possible but he needs Dawson match fit for the finals

One of the more interesting selections this week IMO with quite a few questions.

Who comes in for Fyfe? Weller, Blakley, Mzungu?
Do we risk Clancee or give him a weeks rest, if so whose in from the above list?
Is it time to bring in Dawson? If so do we leave AP down back, send him to Peel or send him forward?

My anticipated changes to the "squad".

Out - Fyfe
In - Dawson, Weller, Blakley, Mzungu

Final 22 picks to be made after I see the 25.. ;)

Reckon you're about spot on there.
I reckon potentially 2 changes though. Clancee out for Dawson & Gu for Fyfe.
Wouldn't mind Weller or Blakely as sub too

Can we really have Dawson, McPharlin and Pearce down back?

Seems a bit top heavy for mine. All depends on GWS' forward line I suppose, they could go in pretty tall.

Best 22 last few years had all 3 of Johnson Dawson & McPharlin so should be fine

In those games, Johnson didn't really play as a tall though. He was our main distributor from half back. Which one of the 3 would play that role if they all played?

Dawson and McPharlin don't really have the foot skills, and Pearce is probably not experienced enough. I think Dawson and Pearce are basically playing for the same spot, I doubt both will play.

Ibbo is currently playing Johnnos role which is effectively spare defender.
Dawson is a pure lock down defender which McPharlin playing that role currently, the latter of which would go to 2nd best forward and provide a slight uptick in rebound.
Pearce finding his feet and doing a bit of everything - very well mind you but has great support such as a midfielder or two rolling back.

Think we can tbh. McPharlin is now suited to the free backman role ala, yes mentioning it, Darren Glass the last few seasons of his career. Can't expect Luke to look after the number 1 best forwards week in week out at the twilight of his career.

I have no doubt Lyon will want some games into Dawson before the finals, and I cannot see Pearce being dropped. MacPharlin may get a week off somewhere.

Blakely seems to be on every news page & news anchor Twitter page today. Could be in line for debut?

Yup, was also getting talked up on SEN this morning as the one expected to step up in Fyfe's role.
Would love to see Blakely and Weller come in. High risk having 2 debutants? When was the last time ANY coach debuted 2 in a game?

I really hope so, just from my own impressions this kid is ready to make a statement from game one.

Weller and Langdon are exciting but I am backing Blakley to make more of an impression this year (next might be different).
