structurally is he in the wrong position and losing games to someone like Miles? or is he behind some of the other box hill boys like Billy in the pecking order?
I thought he (Lachie Walker) was clearly the best BHH player in the HFC intraclub, and had a better game than quite a few listed blokes. He was playing tall across half-back all pre-season. He's probably a touch short for a true AFL CHB but his reading of the play, defending and rebound were all excellent. I was really impressed, and was looking forward to seeing him star for Box Hill.

Can we please stop cutting and pasting content from the clubs' websites. It's against the terms of use of BigFooty.

Hopefully he will get a look-in as the season progresses, what with the inevitable injuries and loss of form of some other players maybe. Agree with your sentiments re the developmemt squad though.

As already mentioned the conditions were tough with probably 85% of the play being in one half of the ground for the entire match.

Burton- Was absolutely everywhere in the 1st 15 minutes and showed his class with some very good ball use into a crowded 50.
Kicked our first 2 goals, the 1st a monster kick from about 65m which was aided by the breeze.
He competed well all day and reacted exactly the way you would want someone to after being chopped.
I suspect he will be back in the 1's very soon.

O'Rourke- Did some very nice things at times including a few clean centre clearances. Wasn't really a lot of uncontested footy played which didn't help him but I still noticed him enough to be impressed. Didn't ping a hammy so that's a win.

Willsmore- Again not the type of game that suits him but i was very impressed with his competitiveness and when he did get the ball he used it well particularly into the breeze. Was very vocal when off the ground directing players etc.

Lovell- Thought he was good without being great. Appears to always try and side step or spin out of trouble which I like and often does so. You can really see he has the tools just needs an extended run if games to try and crack into the 1's. Disposal was excellent when he had space and time. Makes very good decisions. Smart player.

Pitto- Was probably beaten on the day but competed hard as always. Was also one to be very vocal when off the ground and spent a lot of time conversing with the coaches on the bench.

Langford- Competed very very well all day as you would expect and had a cracking last qtr bullocking his way through stoppages to get it moving forward. Rushed his disposal at times.
Would not have thought he has done enough for a recall anytime soon.

Brand- Really liked his game. Took some good contested marks and competed very well all day. I really like him as a player and thought he was stiff to get the chop.

Moore- Did some very nice things that caught my eye. He is a tough nut with the outside stuff as well. Just a natural footballer.

Worpel- Barely noticed him in the 1st half apart from coming to and from the bench but he was fantastic in the 2nd half particularly in the last qtr when they were looking at coming home hard.
He just willed his way from stoppages through pure strength getting the ball moving our way.
He tackled hard nland disposal was generally very good. Bloody hell he can kick the footy a long way.

Lewis- Gee this kid is exciting. As i previously stated and I know it's early days but how we plucked this guy with a pick in the late 7ps is astonishing.
In a game where the defensive 50s were crowded all day this guy was just brilliant. Took a number of contested marks in amongst 4 or 5 others. He is just so clean with his hands. Has a beautiful kick on him as well. Has those footy smarts you cannot teach and just competes.
He was one of the only players on the ground smart enough to keep the ball low when shooting for goal against the strong breeze.
Rucked at times and was very competitive.

Really really like this guy and if he continues this form its going to be hard to ignore him for a promotion.

Miles- Was ok without being great. Did some nice things. Is a tough bastard.

Nash- Really liked his game. For a big man gosh he moves well. Has such good agility. Kicked a wonderful goal in the 3rd after side stepping a defender in the goal square.
He was the most vocal player when off the ground. Always barking instructions (not that anyone could understand a word he was saying).
Never sat on the bench when he came off, just stood on the sidelines pointing etc. Great leadership.

Cousins- Hard as a cats head is this bloke. I was a little suprised to hear he had 30 but he gets so many in close you just dont notice many of them.
Stoppage specialist. Used the pill very well when he had space and time.

Hope i havent left out any hawk listed players.

Oh at half time I spoke with CJ, Ross, Hanrahan and Jones who were all watching on. All said they have little niggles but will be back soon. Great bunch of guys.
Great report!

I hope Hodgey gets a game soon.

PS: Has ‘Hodgey’ caught on as a nickname for Mitchell Lewis? Brilliant laconic humour straight from Bigfooty. Was it Abasi who came up with it?

Yeah, as soon as I heard his name. It made sense.

I was thinking this was the Box Hill Hawks forum, but not too much is being said about the Box Hill Hawks football players. What is mainly spoken about are the Hawthorn listed players. I personally think that it takes 22 players to be a part of a winning or a losing side on any given week and that being said I think that there should be some mention of the Box Hill Hawk representatives that are out there each and every week trying to do their best for the club in regards to their performance. E:G Moore (Currently on the side lines due to suspension unfortunately) , Murphy, Evans, Brolic, Hams, Adduci, Kilpatrick, O'Donnell, Lane to name a few and other such players that give their all for Box Hill when they are listed as playing for Box Hill and the other 20 or so players that may or may not be given the chance to have a game playing in the Box Hill Hawks Senior Side due to the development squad being dropped this year. Would it not be a good thing if the coaches would assess the Box Hill players also on occasions. Sorry if I am out of line. Also if you people actually have a look at the disposals of the top 6 against Frankston on VFL web site stats you will notice that most of the Hawthorn listed players had more kicks that were ineffective than effective this week. Maybe the wind or maybe just ???. Again I say if I am out out of line please let me know.

Nothing is stopping you talking about Box Hill listed players.

Didntdoit, I don't think you are out of line. The wind was a major factor in the number of ineffective kicks. Some high kicks even did U Turns. When posting I'm inclined to mainly concentrate on the HFC players because that is what I think the majority of the readers want. I'm a huge fan of the BHH players and their significant contribution to the teams success and have referred to Murphy, Hams and O"Donnell plus other players in the practice and VFL match posts I have attended. The stats don't include time on ground and the majority of HFC players usually spend more time on the ground therefore the disposals do not always accurately reflect on the contributions by the BHH players.

Hi Abasi. You are right in saying nothing is stopping me talking about Box Hill Players but what I stated/asked in my post was that it would be nice if the coaching staff of the Box Hill Hawks would perhaps like to mention some Box Hill Players as well as the Hawthorn listed players.

Mentioned them where?

Good night and good luck mate.
Why not answer the question?

Where is it that you think the Box Hill coaches should highlight the Box Hill players?

Mate its ok i have followed the box hill hawks near on 12 years now. I love going down to city oval. Most here are hawthorn supporters and are more interested in how they went. Its also hard to keep up with massive change is the box hill hawks list from year to year. I do mention the boxhill listed players that catch my eye. Perhaps if u do go to the games u can fill in the gaps. The more contributers the more coverage we can get.

Since you mentioned it, what did Moore do to cop such a long suspension? (I assumed he was injured).

We do discuss the Box Hill players as the season goes on, lots of us were fans of Mirra before he became a Hawthorn player. Another one I like is Billy Murphy.

Hawks website reviews of Box hill games obviously focus on the Hawks listed players, Box Hill website and their twitter feed have more meat when it comes to the Box Hill boys

Moore received 3 weeks for a late, high, heavy hit in the practice game against Richmond. It was a brain fade and didn't look good.
Wonder if that was a continuation of all that stuff that went on in the Prelim last year. Richmond targeted him mercilessly in that game and he didn't respond well.
