Plays better footy in the WAFL than anyone else on the list and didn't look at all out of place when he got a chance against Geelong.
No longer a developing side, everyone in the 22 must have a clearly defined role. Is he good enough for the role he is earmarked for? If not, why should he get a game?

Love all the brand new arguments for the most logical reason michie wasn't selected.

RTB is a great coach, but has flaws, and not selecting michie is one of them.

I watched Michie las week closely & I firmly believe he doesn't work defensively hard enough & fit within the game plan that Lyon would expect in terms of running both ways.

Broughton last year was exactly the same and didn't follow Lyons plan and did his own thing too often & you know that won't work with Lyon.

Has the ability to get the pill & used it well but needs to improve defensive side of his game.

Maybe the plan Is to have him ready to be a starting 21 player next year, fully primed and ready to go... If hes not keen to stay with us just dont trade him to a strong side. Im worried he'll be our Josh Kennedy
(syd). Personally I think something does seem odd about him not playing.

Re: Michie... What does it matter? The coaching staff have evidently decided it's in the best interest of Viv to play in the WAFL this year. I think the game he did get was forced on us because we came up short in the midfield. It's like some people think that Lyon and the Match Committee are part of a conspiracy denying Viv the opportunity to play. Just think about how ludicrous that sort of reasoning is for a moment, then reconsider your argument that Viv is being hard done by.

So, how on God's good Earth does Tom Sheridan get a game?

This statement is the only plausible reason Viv isn't getting a game .

He has great stats in the WAFL but the one that was missing almost every game was tackles until last week when from memory he recorded 3 .
As an inside mid you would expect some where between 3 and 5 .

Just aside from all the talk of him being an inside mid how do you recon he would go as a tagger at WAFL and see if his defence game improves .
He's got the tank for it and the build maybe that will tick the last box that RTB needs to give him a game

Well he does have a higher cruise speed than Michie & a different type of player. He is not competing with the likes of Mundy, fyfe & Barlow for a spot in the side. His skills are also better than viv

Yes, he's a different type of player, but in terms of running both ways, in the little I've seen of him playing for Peel, he looked like he'd fit right in at North Melbourne.

Just being an option on the outside is enough of an attribute to be picked ahead of others. Where does Michie win most of his ball? Inside? So why would he displace any of the other inside midfielders?

No, it's not. Maybe they're still concerned about his fitness. Maybe they don't want him to play anywhere but inside mid.

He averages 3.87 tackles per game at WAFL level.
Sheridan averages 2.27
Sutcliffe averages 2.5
Neale averages 0.85

There is nothing wrong with his defensive game. He's arguably our best young player in that regard, along with Schloithe.

Expect Viv to be ready to go next year. In the meantime, chillout and leave it up to Lyon and Co. to make the best decision for the team. They talk about how our players have really bought in to the plan, perhaps some supporters need to take a leaf out of their book...

He wouldn't. Except in the case of injury, which is why I'm a bit surpised he wasn't listed as an emergency this weekend in case Mundy doesn't play. I hope that means Mundy is fitter than I thought

Sherry is an outside receiver and elite running machine like Mzungu so he gives running power to the team .
He's disposal isn't bad but he's very light in build so he can't muscle his way in a contest as yet but very Hill like in that when he gets the ball in space he can break lines and carve his way through defensive structures and create the lose man .
He is a very smart footballer that in congestion has his wits about him and can carve his way through traffic if there is an opening .
I rate him right up there as a developing talent that with more games under his belt he will be a real gem and other clubs will be saying how the hell did we miss seeing that guy at the draft

Stats don't really show. Of course he is going to have more tackles being that he plays inside and gets tackles in close. It's his ability to defend the spread which is much higher than at WAFL level. His opponent last week racked it up in the first half.

You may have unintentionally hit on a point there... Perhaps we're looking at this the wrong way. We're all kind of looking at it in the following way: Either Sheridan plays or Michie plays. We won't play both at the same time long term and Michie is really only likely to get a game if Barlow, Fyfe and Mundy have problems...

What if, as you say, because Sheridan has elite running ability he eventually takes Mzungu's spot? In that instance it would be like for like (although Mzungu has a handy knack of bobbing up at the right place in the forward line). In this instance Sheridan is actually gunning for Mzungu's role. If he surpasses Mzungu then surely Michie is the next choice for midfield duties as back up for Mundy, Barlow and Fyfe.

Lets be honest here our recruiting guys have found so many really exciting players looking at our list right now and we are blessed with so much talent as far as midfielders are concerned .

They have finally gone after KPP players in the last draft and like the Midfielders we have a crop of young guys who are starting to come to grips with what is required to play at the highest level but they will take time to reach the required fitness and build to be of value to the team . In the meantime we need to be a little more patient with them as they get the skills we still have Pavlich and Elvis to teach them and show them how its done .
I think with another preseason under their belts Hannath ,Smith , Duffy , Tabbener and Howson will develop into some real class acts under RTB's guidance .
With Griffith and Kepp's and Morra fit and ready to go in the next season we are going to see so much competition for spots in the team regardless of where we finish this season its all up woulds and on woulds for next year .

A fringe player that's played 1 game ever missing out on selection 1 month out from finals and there's a massive uproar, lol.
It's not an uproar. It's a discussion on the possible reasons why our consistently best performed player outside the 22 is consistently overlooked being named even as an emergency.

RIGHT ON

We get the best of both worlds but don't forget Waters and Crozier are being coached to fill a midfield roll as well . The pressure goes onto everyone in the midfield to perform at their best for the team or be dropped ,its sooooo F**king goood .
I just get a sore head trying to fine the right combinations the longer the season goes and it won't get easier next year either in fact it gets harder :);)

Interesting to see what happens if Mundy pulls out, we don't really have a like for like replacement as an emergency, maybe De boer will play predominantly in the midfield with Crozier coming in as a forward.

Don't think we'll be needing a defensive forward tomorrow.

it comes down to this: would you rather go into the finals with 5 guys who've played 2 games each, or 2 that have played 5?
i think a lot of you are overstating the differences between Michie and Sheridan.
it's a matter of timing as much as anything - Sheridan got first run, so has pole position. it will all even out in the end next year anyway.

Crichton and Crozier playing for Peel so Silvagni is the only emergency and Claremont have the bye so it makes sense.

Having a Bo peep at the West Perth game either Mellington has'nt touched it yet...unlikely,he is injured...maybe or he will be a late replacement for Mundy...also unlikely but I would'nt be against it !!

Carry on as before,he now has 1 possie for WPerth

Crikey! I would have thought we play more than 4 defenders!

Surely we won't line up like that.
We need percentage and fast. We are aiming to smash them so comprehensively in the middle, and then press back the whole team to help out our defense. If it works, we'll pile on a massive score.
