Heard Fud on SEN over here a few weeks ago talking about teaching Perrie to kick. He said that research shows it takes 500 hourse of intensive training to restyle a muscle memory (poor golf swing, poor kicking action...). Given that he wouldn't have 500 hours on specialist kicking coaching with Perrie or Stevens or whoever in their entire careers, the best he can do is work on routine with them.

Spot on.

After having a read of the paper today my In's and Out's would be...

Bode (or maybe even Jericho) to replace Ladhams
Hudson to replace Biglands
Hart - only if he is 100% fit - to replace Dogga.

From here on it there are a few interesting options.

If Hart is not fit - Perrie could come in to play CHF, Kenny CHB and Hentschel pack pocket or back flank, Dogga goes out.

If Hart is fit - and they want Perrie in as well - who else gets dropped?

Maybe Basset for Sarge? Nathan's form isnt too good atm but he is not alone there.

However if they dont pick Sarge and Benny Hart returns we'd have a fair few tall defenders in Hart, Smart, Bass, Hentschel and McGregor.

One of them will need to play forward with Stevens, preferably with Kenny at CHB. Perhaps Bass could be the go up forward? He started as a forward at Norwood and has done OK there.

Not a bad suggestion NM, as T-Potential is a good mover for a big guy. The only question is his aerobic capacity to run with Pav all day. Worth some thought though.

Hey I don't go for it's no good for its confidence guff - remember I was was the one who suggested we match up Reilly with Lappin last week - as it turned out he did an OK job on Aker, whilst Lappin got the most possies on the ground. Playing on good players is a learning experience (though I would do it if it were his 1st game!)

I would prefer dropping the out of sorts Hound if it meant returning Kenny to CHB, with Sarge playing CHF.

Except that he is badly out of form.

I think Bode is probably the best crumber we have so bring him in and play him up forward. One thing that Bode has that a lot of other players on our list don't is the natural ability to go where the ball is. Bode as a crumbing forward is a good idea IMHO because his kicking for goal is very good its his disposal to a player that leaves a lot to be desired at times.

Hound is BADLY out of form and I reckon he will be lining up for Norwood this week.

IN: Perrie, Hart, Bode
OUT: Bassett, Doughty, Ladhams

Play Perrie at CHF and Kenny at CHB.

Jerome, the beauty of the likes of Smart and Hart is that they can play on both smalls and talls. I am willing to bet that one if not both of them will pick up one or both of Farmer and Medhurst.

Hentschel on Pavlich is an interesting option but as Kane said I doubt he has the engine to go with Pavlich. We will probably play Hart, Smart or Stenglein on Pavlich.

Yeah he did, 4 goals in a trial for the Magpies. Had about 12 kicks and one goal on Sunday in round 1 of SANFL.

I'm not sure whether Bode is really a goalkicker, as good a crumber as he is, and maybe Burns would be better for that role close to goal. Either he or maybe Schuback, someone needs to provide a spark.

Bode's best at the fall of the ball, at the bottom of the pack, getting in and under and feeding out the footy to our outside midfielders.

Perrie seems to have had an average game for the Roosters so as much as I'd like to see him back, it's probably unlikely...depending on Ayresy' mood...which may open the door for the coach to continue his 'Kenny for CHF' campaign. We really need to settle our key positions down very soon....oh it's all so very troubling...

Yes in a trial. His game on the weekend was ordinary by all reports.

Sure, but that doesn't make him "badly out of form" though!

Agree with Ant, in that I would prefer either Burns or Schuback as a forward crumber of Bode.

If Kenny plays CHF, who plays CHB this week? Stinger isn't big enough to do the job on a weekly basis.

This is Ayresy we're talking about....anything is possible...he may see any combination of Smart, Bassett, Hentschel, Massie, Hart and Stenglein and/or Biglands (maybe even S. Stevens) as enough defensive tall timber for Freo.

Hopefully sanity prevails.

Kenny has been solid, but we need a more attacking CHB longterm.
Don't see a problem with Kenny having the flexibility to play forward or back as required?

Kenny is out only current KPP who picks his own position with no dramas. Move him to CHF & all spots are up for grabs. Just creates further instability IMO.

McGregor is the only KPP who picks himself ina set position without a fuss. Over the last 2-3 years Kenny has always added something to is game. Yes he needs to become a bit more attacking but hey the bloke is only 23 and he will add that string to his bow. We are talking a player who is in top 3 CHBs in the comp. Now, why would you lose a rock from your backline to fill gaps up forward??????

While I agree that Kenny played better as the game went on and did have a reasonable game at CHF, he is still by far our best CHB. We play McGregor at CHF but we drop Perrie who is a better CHF than Kenny. The we are likely to play Perrie at CHB and McGregor at CHF in not to distant future. Tell me if I am wrong but doesn't this make us a weaker team down the spine??????

Especially down back.

We need to have a settled defense & that means playing Shirley Temple at chb not up forward where he has failed in previous years.

Bring in Hudson & Bode.

What about this T Hazel ? going by the mail i've read he seems to be playing good footy for the legs, or is he a rookie?

Hazell is a rookie, considering the plight of our midfield thus far, I wish they would hurry up and put Stevens on the IL so they could add Hazell.

He is still a rookie but I tell you what, if he continutes on his good form from the last 3-4 weeks he is a chance to get promoted if we place someone on the long term injury list (Stevo??????)

While he is no KPP, he would be a pretty handy player to have in the team as he can play, in defence, midfield or up forward.

PORT V CENTRALS

Ronnie Burns – Port Adelaide

Ronnie started deep in the forward pocket for the first 10 minutes before moving to the half forward line where he made an immediate impact in getting Port back into the game. Although not gathering a heap of possessions in this quarter, his work rate and energy lifted the Magpies. His effort continued throughout the match and he finished the day with a creditable 12 kicks, 4 marks, 1 handball and a goal. His skill level was very high and he produced his two or three magical things that we expect from Ronnie.

STURT V NORWOOD

James Begley – Sturt

A good disciplined first half from James saw him give his opponent no space to move in the forward line. Although not a high possession game, he stuck to his game plan while the match was in the balance. When the game started to break in Sturt’s favour in the second half James looked to attack more from the backline and his disposal, as always, was very good. By the end of the game, he had become a very attacking backman.

Matthew Smith (Rookie) – Sturt

Matthew played a very serviceable game either at full back or centre half back where he contested well and was able to spoil well to give Sturt’s smaller players first crack at the ground ball. His decision-making was sound and he used the ball well. Finished the game with 12 possessions and 6 strong marks.

Tim Hazell (Rookie) – Norwood

Gathering 32 possessions and taking 11 marks, Tim was easily Norwood’s best player in a side that got beaten by 10 goals. His overhead marking was a feature of his game and he displayed good skills on numerous occasions to outmaneuver his opponent and win the contested footy. His work ethic was terrific despite the fact that Sturt ran away with the game in the second half.

WEST V SOUTH

Luke Jericho – West Adelaide

Luke played across halfback during the first half and despite not gathering many touches he stopped his opponent from getting the ball. The possessions he did get were mainly contested balls and he showed great poise to deliver the ball in tight situations. Luke was shifted to the forward pocket in the second half and he made life very difficult for his opponent. He led well using his great pace and took several fine leading marks. He finished the game with 14 possessions and 3 three goals (including the winning goal with only seconds left in the game).

Brad Dabrowski (Rookie) – West Adelaide

Brad’s ruckwork was very good as he was able out jump his opponent and give his midfielders first use of the ball. He worked hard all over the ground and was very competitive in the air and at ground level. Playing as a key forward in the third quarter his efforts to keep the ball in the forward line were very good.

Aidan parker (Rookie) – South Adelaide

In his first game after returning from a shoulder injury Aidan played across half forward where he was very good in the one on one marking contests. He lead very well and was rewarded with several possessions as a result of hard leading. He was moved to the pack pocket in the second quarter where he stopped his opponent from making an impact with close checking.

GLENELG V NORTH

Matthew Bode – Glenelg

Despite the disappointment of missing out on selection for the Crows, Matthew went back to Glenelg and showed what a true professional he is. He worked his butt off to gather possessions and was able to bring teammates into the game with his excellent disposal. His defensive game was also strong as he made five effective tackles. He continued to gather touches through hard work, even when North started to take control. Matthew finished the day with 24 possessions, 6 marks and a goal and was named Glenelg’s fourth best player. A real chance for selection this week.

Ben Hudson – North Adelaide

Ben was clearly the best player on the ground in the first half due to his work rate and agility. His second efforts, when the ball hit the ground were an example to others and his reading of the play meant he was able to pick up many touches. He played a kick behind the play and when he had the footy he used it very well. He was a very valuable contributor to North’s victory and he finished the game with 18 touches and 6 marks and was named in the best players.

Ian Perrie – North Adelaide

Ian played a very competitive game, giving a good contest at all times, and whilst not a high possession game, Ian certainly did compete well. He was always looking to take front position and if he was unable to mark he made sure the ball came to the front. His skills were good and his defensive work inside North’s forward 50m was very good.


* I cant believe Rowan Andrews failed to get a mention! Did the AFC staff miss the reserves? I'll have to watch him on Saturday.

The usual bit of sugar coating from AFC but I think it confirms that Bode will be in this week and maybe Hudson and Perrie.
