Allen to kick 4 goals

Pretty much. Same thing with Edwards I imagine.

Not playing to instruction, despite the fact they're not the worst players out there.

We never had that with Simpson, he'd just back these players into find form in the AFL side and wouldn't even consider dropping them back to WAFL if they weren't performing.

That would easily disenfranchise young blokes coming through, knowing you have to wait for an underperforming senior to get injured to have a crack at their role, otherwise you're on the dead wing/flank rotisserie with other fringe players, never playing to your strengths.

True, though in recent years when we had barely a handful of listed players in the WAFL it made it harder. I think Gaff knew his papers were stamped when he fell out of the side, but he didn't fall off in 2024, his output dropped over a couple of years and he was never really under any pressure. With Kelly I'm glad McQualter has made the call early on so we can see how he responds. He's not even 31 yet and capable of playing good footy for a few more years. Travis Boak looked like he was being phased out at age 30 then had a made the AA side at 32 and he's still playing at 37. Kane Cornes was dropped on his head as a baby at 28 then went on to play four more years.

Someone like Tom Gross coming in and not looking out of place puts pressure on senior players. It's easy to justify giving Noah Long a spell when he can't get involved in the game but if a first gamer is going to get 17 touches 6 clearances and has the confidence to kick goals from outside 50 you gotta keep him in.

I am glad to see Maric playing a role that uses his strengths. Was the sub 5 times last year and I was filthy when he got that role again in Rd 1. Hopefully we're done with that now.

Yep, looks like Mini's not afraid to make changes and stick to them when they work.

Probably the most frustrating thing about Simmo towards the end. Would be forced to make a change, it'd work, then he'd just go back to the same old shit.

2021 second half probably the best example of this. Played the kids and new players in the side for the first half and looked great. Seniors came back underdone in the second half and it all went to shit and never recovered.

With Waterman and Ryan in, our scoring efficiency should improve, which gives us a chance.

But the expectation is our midfield made up of defenders and teenagers will be monstered.

As will be the case all this year, any loss under 10 goals is a positive.

Green shoots, green shoots… please defy the trend Grossy 🙏

Does this mean that Long is the luckiest player in the AFL? How he has played 4 games with no output amazes me. I was talking him up preseason but he really should be dropped.

Wonder if Cole is the other senior player. Was awful last week.

Out: Kelly, Brockman, Long, Cole
In: Waterman, Ryan, Hutch, HJ

Allen will have to play back otherwise Edwards comes in and we will have to drop JWill after he was one of the better forwards last week. We can't play a forward pressure game with 4 tall forwards unless we drop Bailey and AReid / Jwill share ruck duties.

Think they would've announced a debut for Grego or Allan if they were playing.
