Plan A would be nice

This is it. Whatever it is the coaches are trying to make happen is clearly either not being executed or it's not working. So why not dumb it down a bit? 2012 worked with a very simple game plan. I get that Sanderson thought it was too simple and wanted to add some sophistication to the play, but the system has been so dysfunctional this year, why not just get something working and build from there? Surely, the way things are going, we just need an effective method that forms the basis of our approach? This is all getting too bloody Neil Craig-ish for me, this blind insistence on some sort of football ideology that is completely in conflict with the actual results.

Roos has got this much right. I'm not a fan of his style of play but he understands the need to drill his teams in fundamentals of competitiveness. Melbourne is not the rabble it was last year because he insists upon these basics being adhered to. They'll still get beat plenty, but they are functioning as a football team. Sanderson seemed to come with this awareness in 2012 but then has abandoned it in favour of a bunch of fancier stuff he doesn't seem to be able to get the players to do.

That's exactly what I'm referring to. Our problems run deeper than just the head coach, those at the top are the ones who have to have their fingers on the club's pulse so that they can identify and change the things that aren't working, the people we have aren't up to the task. The impression I got from when Craig left was that we only pushed him when the pressure coming from the public became too great to ignore, not because we identified him as the wrong person for the role. In fact the only recent times I remember us making the tough call on someone at the club who wasn't a player was with Craig and Rendell, neither of which were decisions made without some kind of outside pressure to do so. So unless we get someone who can steer this ship properly there's no point in changing the sails.

Nah it's okay. They nullified that by losing draft picks for the next two years so keeping him would've just been a waste of money!

Have to say I still think fitness is a major issue. Why aren't our players able to get to a bloody contest? Especially in the forward line. How many times do I have to watch Betts get creamed in a 3 on 1?
