Round 8

In: Hall, Higgins, Lake
Out: Jones, Skinner, Wallis

I like your outs, but Hall and Lake wont be back again next week unfortunately. Hall's injury is more serious than they let on, and its public knowledge that Lake needs to find form at Williamstown.

Out : Cooney (maybe he and Lakey can have a chat in the backline about who nominates who for Businessman of the Year - sure beats getting a kick or anything like that eh Coons?), Grant (laziest player in a team full of lazy players), Skinner (substitute should add not take away from a side's performance), Stack (his best game at the Dogs = Dale Morris's 133rd best game at the Dogs)

in: Higgins, Little Libber, two other random Willy players

Out: Skinner
In: Higgins

Skinner was very average, hopefully he gets another chance and shows a bit more further down the track.

What chance did he have as the sub? He needed to play from the start. Lake wont be back until round 13 at the earliest

It is such a stupid decision to play a first gamer as the sub. What sort of impact are they going to have? They have to get used to it, and by the time they do, the game is over. Complete waste. Start them on the ground, give them the ball straight away, close to goal, kick the goal, confidence increases.

Stack is just shit. So shit. He might have improved, but that is just from a worse level of shitness.
Hill should be played forward, not back.

In: Schofield, Higgins, Libba
Out: Stack, Grant, Skinner

Not only a first gamer, but a forward. No chance at all.

Exactly! Whos genius idea is it to keep having our debutants as subs? It's so bloody obvious that it is a dumb thing to do, but not for us apparently. Skinner never had a chance

Such an intelligent comment, must send this post to the MC.

Stack is getting better with every game and did well today with 23 disposals and hardly any errors.

He is getting better every gme. Maybe one day he will get to be an average player. His kicking is ok, I dont mind that, but when he handballs, he absolutely shits his pants. He handballs to people with a player directly behind them, he handballs to the corridor with none of our players there.
Not every player has to be considered good in your own team, and just face it, Stack is shit.

But he is not alone at all, our decision making to the start of this year has been terrible at best.

absolute crap. Take another look at the game and count the clangers, not as many as you think. Do you think Boyd should be dropped? Had 33 disposals but how effective were they? Did you mention that - no

Stack player plays a good game and when we lose, he is the first mentioned by posters. He has played 16 games, he still learning and getting better with every game.

lol

Today i found myself more interested in the Willi game.
Richmond, a young team with a bit of confidence... dangerous week for us.

Out: Stack, Hill
In: DJ, Libba

He just isn't good enough to play in defense. How many goals did he get kicked on him today? If he is going to be played, at least put him in a position where what he does doesn't give the opposition a perfect opportunity to score. He isn't very potent in the forward line, and he is prone to coughing it up in the backline.
His game today was better than he has previously played, but he still isn't at that level.
Maybe the MC just want to give him some time to get better, but once Hargrave comes back I dont see a place for him.

Edit: but just remembered this is the match selection thread, so we will stay on topic.

Calls to drop Wallis, why? Thought we was good and really did well for a 3rd gamer? Uses his body really well.

Libba also needs to come in. Play either libber or wallis in the forward line for a full game.

i dont want to be negitive, but this game against richmond is bloody dangerous, and if we dont go in with a complete 180 degree change of attitude, we wont be happy campers next sunday night

richmond have taken a big scalp and they will be full of confidence and they will play with nothing to lose, so i see alarm bells ringing, and it would not surprise me at all if we drop the bundle next week

however, if we put the last 3 games behind us and play 4 quarters and get some of that steely resolve back and are relentless all game instead of playing in patches, it will hopefully be a different story

Playing 4 quarters is the big one. We only played about 1 and a half in total today. It is a real issue for us.

Out: Where do you start? Here's a few names to choose from:
Minson - I had big expectations for Good New Will and all I saw was Bad Old Will -got some hitouts but gave little else
Hudson - Been a fantastic warhorse but that was just about the worst game he's played - looks more suited to the Jurassic era
Skinner - Didn't get much of a go, but still a lot of development required
Grant - as others have mentioned, work rate awful
Cooney - unfit, fumbly, detached - on current form the most overpaid player in the comp
A few other marginals: Gilbee, Moles, Stack, Jones.

In: I'm bereft of ideas: Reid, Higgins? any others that can run consistently to contests

Mino to me could be finished had way too many chances, gotta persist with roughy. Its a shame that dalhaus is a rookie beacuse what i have seen of him in the ressies he breaks the lines and a clever footballer. Cannot drop skinner , didnt get much of a chance at all, but knowing eades form he will be dropped. Hargrave could be back soon and lake needs to be back as well, no good rotting in the ressies we need to win games of footy.

I thought Cooney wasn't too bad, he is getting better. After about the first 15 minutes he was kicking at 100% efficiency for about 8 touches., ended up in the mid 70% for efficiency, so thats good.

Gilbee played okay, not great, but he was pretty decent last week shutting down O'Brien and creating up forward.

For me:
In: Higgins, Hall, Libba
Out: Stack, Moles, Grant

Grant's turn to be given a wake up call this week.
Zeph to start the game and maybe subbed for Wallis/Hudson/Minson off the bench.

BF two days ago:
"Play the kids! Play the kids! Must get game experience and development into the younger brigade so we are up and about for 2012-14! "

BF tonight:
"Drop the kids, they are crap!"
The names that keep cropping up to be dropped are Jones, Skinner, Stack, Wallis and Grant with an average of 11 games each, none of them over 22 years of age. Oh, and even Hill, another 22yo, who had about 20 possessions with high disposal efficiency (82%) in a team that lost partly due to fumbling and poor disposal.

We've got to realise if we call for the kids to be played ahead of better performed senior players then we are deliberately picking players who will probably not play as well this week as the older ones would have. We are doing it so they gain experience. The idea is to take the hit now for the long term gain. So we've got to expect some pretty patchy performances and some disappointing losses. Either that or we play our Lakes, Halls, Hahns and Hudsons every week and maybe get across the line but have a raft of untried youngsters getting no senior experience.

So what's it to be ?

Having said that I'd agree with one of them being dropped ... Grant. Even a play-the-kids policy has to make sure they follow team rules and work ethics, otherwise they DON'T develop. The whole squad have to learn that they've got to work their backside off every game they play if they want to represent the WB.
