Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Saints paying 1.7m a year to downgrade from Marshall to TDK, make it make sense.

Also since they’re dealing with Geelong, a future second should get this one done.
I presume this an attempt at a troll?

Just about every Cats fan on here seem to think they will use their first, with many suggesting there will be something else added.

Some whispers of the Saints being into SDK, which begins opening up some more options if true.

Marshall + 2026 F1 for SDK? (I'm assuming Saints would baulk at Pick 7 and would back themselves to improve next year, with the F1 being in the 10-14 range perhaps)
I think the only possible way SDK would leave even before talking about the above would be
1. The Cats win the flag.
2. He wants to play with his brother

Saints would have to pony up something near the 1.4 his brother is getting ( a mill ?).
Marshall is 30, SDK is 25 and has just signed a 3 year deal. He is playing in a team that is constantly top 4 and is playing in a Granny on Saturday.

As I said if they win he may, just may consider moving, but unlikely.
Then if he did, something like above might get it done, but I just can't see it occurring.

Maybe if Wilkie leaves? But I can't see why we'd go after SDK given our abundance of key backs, nor why he'd want to come to us

Fans love to go window shopping for oppo players as if player for player trades are common.

This would be the most obvious player for picks trade you'd ever see.

We barely even have the list spots for the targets we are already in the market for.

Should be done Day 1 if everyone isn’t stupid about it.

As you said, one of the easiest player for pick swaps in Trade Period history.

Saints need the capital to make their player trades happen, Cats and Marshall want to team up (been years in the making, Cats wanted him all the way back in 2022)

Make it happen!

Next years first would have a lot more value than this years first. Not saying it gets done for a first, just that this might be the time Geelong has to be flexible and offer it.

If we are not trading our future first for Bailey Smith, hate to break it to you, but we are not trading our future first for Marshall.

No dramas.

I know Smith was ooc but we were steadfast about not trading the future 1st last year. I can see us being even more protective of it with butters potentially in play next year. I think a first and a second or a fringe player is probably the compromise offer. Whether St kilda accept it or decide to keep them i dont know but thats where I expect it will be.

I have no idea what it will be if Marshall is traded for, but as you have indicated it will be more than just the Cat's 1st Pick this year.

If he stays his front loaded contract means he is cheap for St Kilda, and allows $$$ to go towards another acquisition.
We have lacked height in recent years, largely do to injury, so to have extra height in 2026 will be a welcome change for us if he stays. Marshall is very versatile, good as a follower winning ball around the ground and with clearances. And is handy up front, or down back too. He is a good mark.

Our Pick 7 looks like it may go to Flanders. If Merrett stays then Mackenzie will stay a Hawk. If so we only then need to trade for Ryan and Aleer, and possibly match points for Fincher if he gets called out early on trade night. That is managable with the picks we have including say our F2. A seconder rounder from the Cats could help with Ryan/Aleer trades, and leave your 17/18 (say 25+) for a draft pick. Though if Fincher pushes up, that may be wasteful use of it.

So personally I am happy if Marshall stays or goes. But if he goes will not be happy if it is just the Cat's 1st pick.

Supposedly the Cats have identified a player they want. While some say SDK, given our new acquisitions and who we have on the list SDK would seem a strange choice.

Cal Twomey, Riley Beveridge and Sam Edmund all said Cats First would get it done in the last couple days.
I reckon it’d require a bit more than that but some of the suggestions here have been laughably bad.

He’s not worth less than a first but he certainly isn’t worth two firsts.

He’s a 30 year old Ruck, a talented one but still a 30 year old ruck.
I reckon getting GC involved to make it a 3 way swap with Flanders to get him to Saints would make everyone happy.

I've seen so many comments from Saints fans over the past month or two saying stuff like "I hope the Cats crash out of the finals and get belted in the ruck, so they're more desperate for Marshall".

If you truly do want to keep Marshall, why would you guys be wishing we're more desperate for him?

You should be hoping we dominate in the ruck so we no longer need him, if you're so happy to keep him.

Hearing he has formally requested a trade. Will get announced early next week.

Cats management always tell players not to announce through their agency/management until the Cats season is done, the only time this didn’t happen is when GWS got salty and released the Jezza news before 2020 GF.

Makes sense, Worpel will announce after GF as well.
