Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Not really, it's just pointless stage managed rubbished.

You give them 3 days to get the deal done, and it'll take 3 days.

You give them 8 days - and a televised deadline day finish - and it'll take 8 days.

Nobody is tuning in on that last day when the final remaining deals are Jordan Murdoch and George Horlin-Smith to the Gold Coast.

It happens every year, they need the big and big(ish) names to finish it all off.
Or the big names go right to the line because the stakes are big ;)

If there were referred pressure from the AFL, someone would eventually whistle blow

Spot on. Hutchison's company even got to make a couple of docos about the whole thing on Stan. One year they had Colin Young and the cameraman literally running back and forth between the rooms for Freo and the Dogs to finalise Rory Lobb's trade because apparently phones stop working right before the trade period ends.

Looking forward to the deadline day footage one week from now of Mackie bored out of his mind scrolling on his phone. If he's lucky Wells might stick his head in to give him some company.

Yep, is orobaby going to be a cost that both supporter sets would say is "unders"

So a fair deal in the end

I agree whatever the deal is both sets of club supporters wont be happy.

It's not really. There have been plenty of deals Geelong came asking about in the last 10 years but didnt do because they didn't like the price. This isnt really any different. We have shown we only ever have interest to a certain point.
Ok, that's fine by me. We keep a required player. All good. We will soon find out what your "certain point" is.

We targeted Jacob Hopper and in the end we pulled out when Richmond offered him more money and years (and probably also offered better picks to get the deal done).

The world didn't end and we all moved on.
Fair play and I get what you're saying. The issue here is how desperate are you to fill a massive hole in your list? That's the key IMO. Ro could be the difference between a prelim and a flag you guys.

We were desperate to boost our midfield so we paid 7 for Flanders. Probs overs but worth it.

How important is Ro in your opinion, given what happened in the GF?

Quick! Better strip us of premiership points in the AFLW for administrative errors
Full public disclosure of the actual breaches should clear things up... for most. But hey, read my sig.

It's a nothing burger IMO. Saints had similar issues 20 years ago. I wonder how Ken Hinkley feels about the fine?

Led? He play majority of the game up forward and he just retired. They literally went out and got a young starting ruck through free agency as they know they can’t sustain with just their journeyman ruckman lol

Our issues were far from the ruck position…we were beaten by the overwhelming talent from the Lions midfield which is historically level stacked.

We would take a star mid any day of the week over ruck position.

You selling me Butters or Walsh or whoever it’d be dream come true
You’re list management seems to disagree with you they went out and got a decent midrange midfielder but have listed there biggest needs as getting a quality ruckman and key position forward

Like many other Cats fans, I think it was down to the midfield more than anything else. Holmes and Smith are stars, Atkins had a fantastic year......there's a bunch of guys that rotate through there but it starts falling away after the top three.

We won two clutch finals with Blicavs as the ruck, almost conceding the actual "ruck' part of the game to have an extra midfielder and mobile utility. A lot of Cats fans feel like it was a wrong decision to bring Stanley back for the GF.

Plus Scott has never believed "OMFG we need an elite Max Gawn ruck to win a final" type coach.

Obviously Marshall is better than Stanley, but to argue the ruck is the critical missing piece of the puzzle just doesn't vibe with our setup in recent years, and our coach's mentality towards rucks.

There’s a slight difference with this situation , it’s all well and good to say we never over pay we will just walk away but I find it very hard to believe your list management would be happy to head into next season with your current ruck setup when Brisbane have significantly improved there big man department , it’s not like we are being ridiculous and demanding two firsts or something we are just asking for a future instead of current pick

The thing is, we have found it hard to believe too, we've just seen it every year. Last year we were into Marshall as well, before that Grundy twice, Goldstein got an offer from before his late career resurgence.

With SDK, Blitz, Neale able to ruck this isn't any worse than how we usually go into a year. Maybe better than average tbh.

Most of the Geelong posters rate Marshall highly, we just see from experience fans rate rucks a hell of a lot more than Chris Scott.

Geelong isn't offering picks. They are offering some farm land, a free Rex Gorell Ford and Cotton On gear and free food and delivery from Costa's fruit and veg

Look as long as they declare all the gifts etc its all good.

And if they dont......they get a little fine, most of it suspended and a "don't do it again" from the AFL who employed the ex Geelong chap who ran it all.

All perfectly transparent and within "guidelines".

Geelong will drag out this trade........its what Geelong do.

Why are you lying?

"The AFL said its GM of clubs — finance, performance and growth, and former Cats employee, Simon Kelleher, had no involvement in the investigation."

Looks like my view is not only correct but actually perfectly aligns with the clubs views. gagf all you numptys

“worlds best trade or he stays with us” rofl
Declaring a win at quarter time is very St Kilda-like of you and certainly will not bite you on the ass ;)

Interesting landscape on this one... Cats have to get it done right.. Stanley clearly won't cut it
An upgrade on Stanley would be nice but at the same time Marshall isn't the silver bullet.
Small defender and mids more pressing need than a ruck.
