Because Curnow is a better and rarer player.Marshall is only 15 months older than Curnow, and Geelong decided to only offer the worst pick out of 3 they are now offering for Curnow.

Exactly this, Curnow has 2 Colemans. Marshall is an old, bog average ruckmanBecause Curnow is a better and rarer player.
He just wants his farm

From all reports, we are looking to keep him which is why we wont accept what Geelong deem a fair deal. If we are going to trade a contracted player who has been on a front ended deal, St Kilda need to be coming out ahead.Well youre either looking for a fair deal or you're looking to keep him because Geelong wont do a trade for any other type of deal.
TThe reality is that you wanted to trade three first round draft picks for Curnow and now turn around after being rejected and try to offer the same pittance you did the first time. If I were Marshall I would feel deflated that the Cats don't rate me that highly and might just stay at the Saints.
But what do I know, I'm a lowly Saints supporter.

It needs to be overs or he stays.
Why? He's exactly what you need, he's contracted, surely you have to pay overs?
Ross Lyon made it very clear on TV a couple of months ago what the clubs position on trading contracted players is. This was also reportedly re-communicated with Marshall in his exist meeting.I have no problem if thats their position. But why not say so months ago instead of deciding this at the last minute? They have known for up to 12 months Marshall was going to request this and they would have been fully aware of what Geelongs ballpark offer would be (you only need to look at previous Geelong trades to know it). So why not simply tell both him and Geelong months ago that theres no point entertaining a trade because they are keeping him?
Stuff like this and the aleer deal makes it look like St kilda have no idea how to communicate properly.
Whatever you think of geelongs trading its pretty clear they communicate.
But not the entire year
The ruck worked with blicavs
GF was always going to be difficult without stewart and Stanley in the ruck but what choice did you have?
Despite Brisbane and Hawks getting better Geelong will be thereabouts again
How’s it tall poppy , we are trying to push up and become a contender over coming seasons, Geelong will be a team that will be contending is it that bad to not want to help a opponent fill one of there biggest needsPretty sad when people care more about Geelong failing than they do their own team succeeding.
Rowan seems to think Geelong is nice since he’s asked twice now to go there.
Tall Poppy rearing it’s ugly head…

I wouldn't expect people to remember, but at the start of the year, we were rolling with de Koning as our ruckman, with support from Blicavs and Stanley as depth. Due to injuries, Stanley got an opportunity to come back into the side and was solid enough that he never really went out until he got injured himself on the eve of finals. Which meant that our hand was 'forced' into using the de Koning/Blicavs combo that it looked like was our Plan A for the ruck heading into the season anyway.
Long story short (and sorry for the double negative): I'm certainly not convinced that Sam de Koning's future isn't as a ruck. And I'm equally not convinced that ruck isn't his best position.
Marshall is clearly a better option than SDK in the ruck you would think? If Kolodjashnij is fit next year, SDK rucking is the easiest way to fit everyone in the team. I had SDK as #1 ruck in my "best 23" team last pre season for that reason. Kolo got injured, Stanley came back in and did ok and that was that for last year. Not convinced SDK overly likes guys jumping into him though, which is only going to increase with ball ups instead of bounces as the opposition ruck knows exactly where the ball is going to go.
Happy to help out for your superstar list manager if he’s a bit confused.
“Worlds best trade or Marshall stays”. We aren’t going to be making a counter offer to the world’s piddliest opening gambit.

Might as well swap him for SDK if you are forcing him to play in the ruck. We might even give you a little something something to go with it.Sure but at this point it appears Marshall is not available for a realistic price?
Turns out everything i said was correct though. When your idea of a trade is
"Holmes and 3 Firsts"
i don't think you should be adding your opinions on what any deal should look like LOL

The bits I’ve seen sdk looks pretty lost when his in the ruck he would be a player that could pinch hit from time to time definitely don’t think he could play there full timeIf Kolodjashnij is fit next year, SDK rucking is the easiest way to fit everyone in the team. Perhaps? Is Marshall better than a healthy Toby Conway? I don't know - but making this trade probably closes the window of Conway (or Mitch Edwards) as our future ruckman. And then having to throw in our first draft pick as well?Marshall is clearly a better option than SDK in the ruck you would think?

If Geelong or Marshall's management didnt take those comments seriously, thats on them.
