Very very unusual case.
Is it standard practice for a defence lawyer to warn a crown witness before committing purgery?
In this case appears there was clear reasonable doubt and the case should never have got this far.
Again why the break from September and then suddenly a key witness has a memory lapse and others don't testify at all?

This is what's wrong with this whole weird law and order let's lock everyone up in jail to fulfil an ideologically driven agenda and where it leads us.
There were admitted lies. The police officer investigating admitted there was doubt.
Yet 2 men's legal rights were shoved out the window with threat of prison. 2 men's lives ruined based on lies. So why did the courts pursue it?
Why are there no purgery charges and will there be a wider investigation into the circumstances surrounding the possibly false accusations?

What legal rights were shoved out the window? They got their day in court where they could go through showing that the accusation was untrue.

I’d be very treated to know the if there were any restrictions on him training. I’d also be very interested if the club or AFL provided him with any form of psychological support.

If the league is going to have a policy that stands players down in situations like these (and whilst it stinks like hell I think they have to do it) then they do need to provide plenty of support (eg offsite training, psychological support) particularly for those instances where someone is subsequently found not guilty or charges dropped.

Bruhn and his coaccused are now very clearly victims of a crime. Whether that crime is pursued we will have to wait and see.

I don't think the 'victim' of the alleged rape has admitted lying about it, has she? I thought it was just a witness that bullshitted, which meant there was insufficient evidence to progress with anything in court.

As far as I could tell from the article, it's still a 'he said-she said' situation.

There's been footage of him out on the ground during training throughout the year, but from this article it sounds like you're limited when it comes to using certain facilities under the AFL's stand down policy?

Bruhn has maintained his innocence and spent time this year working on a farm in country Victoria completing basic farming tasks away from the football spotlight.

Bruhn’s agent, Paul Connors from CDG Sports, said Bruhn was keen to return to the field following a stressful season on the sidelines dealing with the protracted court battle.

Connors said Bruhn was as ready as he could be to begin pre-season training.

“After an extremely challenging year, Tanner is eager to put this nightmare behind him and focus on reigniting his football career,” Connors told the Herald Sun.

“The Geelong Football Club has been amazing in its support and in particular (player development and wellbeing manager) Mark Worthington, who has been a rock for him throughout the entire process.

Agree on presumption trumping all else but in the modern approach to law is far more geared towards getting your story out in public first.

Thanks - that is very useful. Now I do think the AFL may need to reconsider its policy on this issue. Maybe keep distance from the club but the AFL to provide alternative access to training.

You are wrong. False allegations are actually vanishingly rare. This is one of those very rare cases.

That said I hope Bruhn recovers from this and gets a satisfactory outcome through the courts and/or the court of public opinion. Paying for sex isn't the best look for a public figure but it's low on the list of terrible indiscretions.

Pretty obvious what you are insinuating. The reality is in most cases it's very hard to get a rape or DV case to court - quite often because the police are still 20 years behind the rest of the world.

This case for whatever reason was the opposite. Gender or sex has no factor.
