We have our FF and CHF out and you want to play Ryder in the ruck?

Why wouldn't we rotate Hille and Laycock at FF and play Ryder at CHF?

Mcphee did good playing CHF last week, and Ryder said on the radio this week that he wanted to move into the ruck when Pears is consistently in the side. He doesn't have to be confined to the ruck maybe pinch hit CHF while resting.

It isn't about what he wants atm, it's about what Essendon need with Lloyd and Lucas out.

The time will come for him to spend time in the ruck but if we are to move our current best defender out of the backline, it needs to be so he can kick us some of the goals we are losing with the 2 L's out.

I rate Ryder as a better tap ruckmen than either Hille or Laycock (based on the short amount of time he has spent in that role), and if he can win us more ball out of centre its a better chance for Hille/Laycock/NLM/Mcphee to score goals. IMO we would be a better chance of winning with Paddy in the centre.

The risk, I suppose, is that he gets hurt in the middle and you lose him as a backman as well.

All in all, probably too skinny and perhaps aerobically poor to run in the ruck all game. Perhaps another season away. He is twenty, after all.
