The Sin City Swamprats is not a club for crying one’s own misery, but for overcoming it with the aid of fellow wretched souls. There is no judgment on anyone’s past. This is the club of perpetual renewal; the place for new beginnings. Here, it is always possible to start over. The doors are always open to everyone.

Among the SFA clubs, the Swamprats are not known as a flashy organization; preferring internal bonding and posting quality over external exposure and amount of posts. There is nothing wrong, however, with any Rat being a very active poster and/or openly promoting himself and the club.

I. Club History

The Swamprats, or simply Rats, was founded in 2004, playing its inaugural season in S4. The club was born in black-and-white and was called the Alberton Swamprats. In its inception, it was the representative of BigFooty’s Port Adelaide board in the SFA. As such, it won a premiership in S6.

The club has folded a couple of times, but has been brought back again. It has played every season since S16, when it became open for barrackers of other teams (there are currently even Crows among us!). Later, it has been rebranded as the Sin City Swamprats and added red and silver its colours. Since then, the club has changed the silver to gold, and added two flags and three minor premierships to its laurels.

II. Club's Brand

The rebranding came out of necessity. There was a need to reinforce a detachment from the Port board. At the time, names were suggested, and a vote was taken. Sin City” won, and that has been the club’s name since S19.

The club’s name is not just “Sin City,” however; but “Sin City Swamprats.” The moniker has been preserved. Considering the club’s full name, combining rats and sins, it points towards the underworld. The Rats even host their homes games at “The Underground.”

Thus, the name implies that the club is about the rejects, the outcasts, the pariahs, the socially unwanted. It presents the club as a home for the homeless; a country for the exile; a sanctuary for the forsaken; a port for the adrift. It stresses darkness, fear, and despair; but also freedom, power, and hope. It entails being bent, but never broken.

The club’s colours add meaning to such a symbolism. Where the shadows prevail, there are practically no colours. It is almost all black-and-white. Almost. The dimness over Sin City reveals strokes of red and gold; invoking both passion and glory. The club may pull its strength from the deepest parts of the soul, but its aim is always at the Highest.

It must be said that, in a sense, the Swamprats have never left Alberton. The club has physically moved out, for sure; but, spiritually, the link hasn't been fully broken. It is hidden, but it still there. The old Alberton Swamprats still lives on; only more embracive and sombrer than before.

III. The Club Today

Since after the wooden spoon in S24, the club has reached the Preliminary Finals in all of the last six seasons: winning two flags; losing two Grand Finals, and having an overall Finals record of 70% (14 wins and 6 losses).

In the Minor Round, during the same period, the club has finished four times in the Top-4, winning the Minor premiership twice; and has an overall record of 58.16% (56 wins, 40 losses, and 2 draws).

The Sin City Swamprats finished last season’s Minor Round in third place and was second after Finals.

How about you sign Wayne and we'll sign GUH?

I have no wish to play for the Dragbies.

As for the incendiary suggestion about WW19, not even the Pratts are so evil to deserve that punishment. He'd stab Uncle Phil in 5 minutes, drive the Committee nuts and give poor NaturalDisaster a problem.

Besides I am enjoying being my mild gentle self and have no wish to return to the Wayneo Wars.
